Tradeable question

I don't remember hearing this anywhere so I'm curious if anyone knows.  When you use the tradeable effect does the card draw a random card and then shuffle into your deck, or is it placed on the bottom of the deck?  It doesn't really specify on the HS website either, just saying "Cards with the Tradeable keyword can be played like normal, or traded with a random card in your deck for the low price of 1 Mana.".  Thought that maybe it literally trades places with a card in your deck at random instead of shuffling, which if so could be interesting with Lorekeeper Polkelt in the game...  But likely not since I think the game doesn't predetermine deck order and just picks a card at random to be the card you draw (unless you've played Polkelt).

So has anyone seen a Twitter post, or some other clarification out there from a dev?  Since it doesn't specify that it goes to the bottom of the deck I'm going to assume it shuffles in, as the HS team's attitude on text the last 2-3 years has shifted to not always clarifying unless the effect does something different than expected.

  • Without a dev clarifying there is no way to know. HS tries its best to be intuitive, so I would assume it gets shuffled randomly into your deck. It is also worth noting that Sphere of Sapience specifies that the card gets shuffled to the bottom of your deck so I would assume that any other mechanic that shuffles a card to the bottom of your deck would specify that it does that.

      I can't remember when it was, but awhile back I think I remember hearing  or reading somewhere how the way they write text changed over time from being super specific to cutting text for things that should seem more obvious and intuitive based on the mechanics.  So yes, since it doesn't specify it's likely a shuffle effect.  But was just curious if anyone had seen or heard a specific clarification.

  • I've not seen any clarification, no, but I am assuming tradeable cards get shuffled in to a random position. Otherwise they are straight 1 mana draw 1 (with useful 'secondary' uses) for combo decks, which is dangerous to make lots of. If they go somewhere random, then sooner or later you'll draw them again at which point they haven't really sped up how quickly you've gone through the deck. That description was a bit simplistic since they do speed up finding other cards, but not as quickly as normal card draw.

    Honestly, I think Standard has too much card draw already so I'm not overjoyed to see a set mechanic that is pseudo-card draw. It feels like the arrival of DH heralded an age where every class gets cheap, efficient card draw, because otherwise they just fall behind like shaman did until the last mini-set. That's done a lot towards giving aggro far more fuel than I think it should have (I miss being able to run them out of resources...). Hopefully the tradeable cards are mostly tech options that don't really benefit aggro.

      Its arguably less powerful for aggro since it'll likely just cycle a midrange card for a 1-2 drop. After reviewing the currently available tradeable cards, my guess is that team5 have purposefully designed the tradeable keyword to mostly situational, midrange cards that outside of the tradeable option would only be considered as merely decent cards on their own. And besides which, the tradeable option merely replaces itself with another card, so its not really adding to tempo or adding cards into your hand like how Loot Hoarder or Voracious Reader would.

      I would say that its more beneficial to midrange decks, and presents control decks with additional options rather than hp do nothing on their early turns.

  • Its just one of those things that only a dev can explain since its not at all intuitive. Can we actually draw the same card we 'traded' out, or does the draw interaction work first before the card is shuffled back? But on guesswork, it'll make more sense if its randomly placed into your deck. If its set at the bottom of your deck the keyword would be incredibly busted, since its essentially thinning your deck at a 1 mana cost.

  • Tradeable first draws you the top card of your deck, then shuffles the tradeable card into your deck randomly. Tradeable doesn't help you draw through your deck faster, it just lets you opt to draw a different card instead. 

    My question for Tradeable is whether or not they can only be traded once, or if the keyword goes away after it's first use. I would assume it would only work once, but some confirmation would be nice.

      What makes you think that? The Keyword says "Drag this into your deck to spend (1) Mana and draw a new card". There is no indication whatsoever that you can only use it once.

  • This question has been answered on the same twitter thread. You can trade the card as often as you like, as long as there are cards in your deck.

    This is quite a nice thing to explore imho. I imagine something like this:

    Also nice to know: the tradeable card is shown to your opponent when you trade it.

    Maybe one of the content creating staff could put an article together with all the answers Celestalon (and maybe other devs?) gave on twitter after the stream.

  • I'm an Arena player and I think they will be especially powerful there. Late game who cares how many time you cycle them while looking for something good and hey sometimes they are what you need
