Someone on reddit mentioned here https://www.reddit.com/r/HSMercenaries/comments/q87e15/is_devour_3_bait/hgnkztd/  that Devour easts max stats, not current (damaged hp). "You get the full stats of the unit, not just what they have when they die. So you eat giant fin and get whatever health it has when it is full" Can anyone confirm this please? It's crucial info

Scaly Taunt reduces damage from critical hits (ie. damage from protectors or Diablo's Apocalypse) in a way that you get double benefit from it.

For exemple : If you have Scaly Taunt Rank 3 active and a protector hits Mutanus for 10, it will first reduce the initial 10 damage to 7 then the game will double that amount for a total end result of 14 damage with Scaly Taunt Rank 3 or above active instead of 17.

This benefit is further improved with the Iridescent Necklace equipment.

You're all misunderstanding how to use Mutanus. His Devouring Attack is actually his least useful ability. Devour and Scaly Taunt are actually very good.

    Here's how to use him:

Bring a full murloc team- Murk Eye, Morgle and Mutanus. You'd think that you'd want to devour Murk Eye's tokens- you're correct until you upgrade Devour to rank 3. Devour rank 3 eats the lowest health murloc and gains its stats. Ideally, you'd want navigator's amulet and a highly upgraded felfin nav on your Murk Eye, so that you can keep buffing your murloc's attack. On the turn you use Devour, do not summon tokens. It's actually much better to eat one of your own buffed murlocs, either Murk Eye or Morgl to create a supersize Mutanus. This is only viable for PvP or final bounty bosses.

When you're running bounties, there's a chance to get a treasure for Mutanus which sets his health to 3/6+ but only allows him to take 1 damage at a time, regardless of critical hits etc. Buff him with Murloc Missile from Morgle to health buff and felfin nav, while spamming Scaly Taunt. He becomes an immovable object- completely unkillable in every sense of the word. Then you will want to attack the opponents with Murk Eye's 1st ability to bring Mutanus along in the attack- Bubble Wand or the immune treasure you can get would make this even better. Use Morgle to heal Murk Eye, make sure Morgl acts first for the extra buff.

Whenever you get the aforementioned treasure and comp, any bounty is a breeze. I have completed every bounty with my full murloc team. I've hit 5K PvP rating with this too.

Murloc's might seem rough, but I think in the right composition they can cause absolute chaos; especially with Mutanus & Murkeye builds being one of the few lineups that can counter the popular BXT starting lineup. Checkout this 'Call in the Finishers' theorycraft which hides Murloc combos behind the safety of Uther & Cairne taunts, reborns and divine shields, while releasing powerful Morgl & Sylvanas damage from the bench https://www.instagram.com/p/CUunWqes9DW/

    Ok hear me out:

    Front

    Mutanus, Morgl the Oracle, Malfurion

    Bench

    Thrall and 2 more

Equip Malfurion with liferoot and Mutanus with Iridescent Necklace. Once the game starts, keep spamming skaly taunt with Mutanus and healing/buffing with the others. With that much healing it shuld take some time, but before Morgl or Mutanus dies use devour to gain Morgl stats. Make shure to not place Thrall at the left side of the board, and now with Warchief's Command you have a really big Mutanus that can attack twice or attack while having skaly taunt active.

    Murlocs = bad.

And he is the worst. Killing your own stuff? Even if it wasnt restricted to murlocs, it would be still bad.

    No thanks.

Eating things is a flavorful (a-ha-ha) mechanism, but I'm not convinced it's good.

Ol' Murk-Eye can summon plenty of food for Mutanus, but that seems awfully fiddly.

Devouring Attack's Deathblow is really cool. That's the only positive thing I can think of for this character. You need other Murlocs to utilize Devour, and that will *kill* them. That means, ideally, that you will only eat Murloc summons from Old Murk-eye, 'cause why would you kill off another Merc? You'd be putting all of your eggs in one basket. If it nets you a desperation-win then great, but you could be losing them for the rest of the run.

All-in-all, Murlocs are stupid. You need a specific team-comp for Mutanus to function best, and he could be detrimental to the health of the comp itself.
