Turn 1 rope?

It may be anecdotal, but the last ~3 weeks I've seen so many more people rope on turn 1 than I have before (maybe 1 out of every 5-6 games whereas a month ago it was maybe 1 out of 40-50). Is this some new thing i.e. some streamer suggested it to idk throw off your opponent's tempo? I know they're not AFK because they didn't time out on the mulligan selection, so just really confused about what's going on. Am I alone in experiencing this?

Turn 1 is shorter than other turns. Maybe ppl just thinking about their cards or something. Sure, they can be dicks, but if they rope only T1, chances are they didnt do it on purpose.

Yeah I didn't take it as BM as much as some "strategy." I'm asking because there's just been a hugely noticeable uptick in occurrences recently. So just odd that suddenly there's a big influx of more "thoughtful" players - especially when many of those are playing things like Murloc Shaman or Token Druid i.e. decks that have fairly standard openings.
Depends on where you are on the ladder - but I'd assume most of those people are psuedo-AFK. They're playing, but they're also texting/messaging/watching a video.
Guilty. I sometimes queue a new match while doing something else like responding to messages or grabbing a snack. It‘s a little ego but it‘s only a matter of second
Winner winner chicken dinner
Maybe bad luck ?
I am saying this because sometimes, after mulligan I am going my kitchen to take something to drink, sometimes, someone in home can call me to ask or help something after I hit to play button so I need to take my mulligan and go for it.
Mostly I am doing this because of making coffee. :D
So, maybe they were your unlucky weeks which you faced people like me. :)

LOL, I do the same (and probably many others out there too). XD
I will be the first to admit that I occasionally play hearthstone at work and my job involves both of my hands. I apologize to everyone I've ever made wait, sorry guys.
At the same time it infuriates me when I'm on the ladder and I'm trying to grind it out and people are roping me. Behold the duality of man.
If my opponent takes forever on the mulligan I sometimes alt-tab and miss part of my first turn. There used to be streamers/pros that advocated roping every turn, notably Lifecoach, but that dude hasn't been playing for a few years now and his advice never really caught on on ladder anyway.
I'd assume they're just tabbed unless they do it consistently, then it's probably BM.
I sometimes do it. Not on purpose though. I mostly play on my phone and have Spotify on in the background. So on the odd occasion I'll rope first turn because I can't decide between Nine Inch Nails, Avatar or Agalloch for example... 😬
Cocked, locked and ready to rock...
I met a guy on ladder with nickname called something like zzzZzzzZzzzZzzz a year ago. I believe that his T1 rope was some sort of role playing:)
I do what I must, when I must. Know this well.
It's probably pretty common to q up, mulligan immediately, and then run off to the bathroom or grab a snack. I know I'm guilty of doing this as it's the only semi-predictable length of time between matches.
Not sure why it would have ticked up recently for you, but I usually give people the benefit of the doubt as long as they don't rope on consecutive turns.
This. I don't do it very often, but sometimes. Mulligan quickly, do something else, when you are back the rope is already burning. Maybe people does it more frequently in summer?
The pleasure is mine.
My last standard decks: nothing special right now.
Id pseudo afk a lot while playing Hearthstone, so that can be a reason why
It's not a big deal, but you could take a break of any length before queuing up. I understand that streamers want to get their viewers invested in a new match before they run off to the bathroom or kitchen, but most of us don't risk losing viewers if we take a break between matches.
I only rope people who are roping me. So a typical scenario is when they rope you on their first turn. Then I counter-rope on my first turn. Most of the times the roping is then over. But sometimes it turns out to be an abandoned game.
Quest warrior yesterday waited until the rope was just about to expire before playing his quest on turn 1. Was that a hard decision? Not likely. Was it intentional, as opposed to bad connection or AFK? I'll never know.

im guilty of this sometimes
80% of times i play HS casual (daily quests , brawls , etc ) so i do something else while playing HS
although i never do this at the start of month when i grind for rank 5
