What is up with Classic?

Submitted 2 years, 2 months ago by

This past two months I dipped my toes in Classic for achievement purposes. Once I was out of the very bottom ranks, I found the place swarming with Zoolocks. Like, lots and lots of Zoolock. A frankly absurd amount of Zoolock.

And not just Zoolock, but: questionably piloted Zoolock. I started grinding with Freeze Mage just because the matchup was so favorable. A lot of the Zoolock players did things that would get a "?" or "??" in chess notation, like playing minions into Doomsayers or Lifetapping themselves into range of Antonidas fireballs they'd just seen me generate. It also seemed like their play was always timely, like the Innkeeper plays.

What I think I'm saying is... is there a bot plague in wild? Is Zoolock so straightforward that people have developed algorithms for it? Is Wild nothing but endless Zoolock bots in mirror matches for months on end?

I did not come here expecting this thread to get existential, but here we are.

The mode's unpopular and is, iirc, already confirmed to be replaced with a new mode that uses standard HS gameplay.

From what I understand, classic has so few real players that blizz introduced their own bots in an attempt to lessen the matchmaking time. You'll know its a blizz bot if there's no uniform highlighting around the cards, heros and hero powers, something alot of real players are doing when botting the game.

Of course, blizz bots are fairly notorious for their lack of sophistication that Im not surprised if its illogically playing cards. Im fairly convinced that blizz bots only know how to pilot basic decks, so anything that's above a common card would probably generate a fk up every now and then.

Wild bottom ranks are filled with bots too and also alot of extra helpful cards, so if youre looking to finish up those purposefully tedious achievements, join the club and go hunt around bronze wild. There's no reason to play classic beyond nostalgia anyway.
