Invasion of the Legion! (New Set, WIP)
The Burning Legion has returned! The Dark Portal has opened and once again the forces of darkness seek to conquer the world. My idea for this set started by wanting to create a legendary demon for each class and expanded from there. Warlock has always had the most demon synergy, but now the other 8 classes will have their iconic mechanics twisted by the dark influence of the Void.
The set is nearly complete, only missing a few neutral commons, rares and epics. I appreciate feedback on this stuff.

Nice, I like it.
But all legendaries will be demons? It seems so strange.... There isn't a demon hunter or something like that in the lore?
Do you want this to be a evil only expansion, like Rise of Shadows, or a double team like Witchwood?
Some classes will be themed on fighting against the legion, yet they will still be led by legendary demons. Paladin will has the redeemed dreadlord Lothraxion and Hunter will have the iconic Demon Hunter himself, Illidan. Still trying to find the right themes for Hunter, as well as Priest, who I think might be also in this 'traitor demons fighting the Legion' category.
And there will be legendaries that are not demon minions. I think there will be a mix of legendary spells and weapons in some classes, along with non-demon minions. And some Neutral legendaries won't be demons.
This all seems really cool! The only glaring issues I see are Lothraxian and Whispered Secrets. Lothraxian is blatantly overpowered since you're essentially adding a 4/4 body to an already good card for no extra mana cost, which makes him as good as a seven mana card while costing 4 mana. You could solve this by upping the mana cost or making him add Truesilver to your hand instead of equipping it. Whispered Secrets doesn't functionally make sense, since if it's a Secret it should have a trigger. You could solve this by either just making it a normal Spell (taking away the part that says Secret:) or making it say "Secret: When your opponent plays a card, put a random secret into the battlefield." The "from any class" specification is unnecessary since random already means "from any class."
Legion Historian is also far too underpowered, given that there was a 6 Mana 6/6 that added a demon to your hand at the end of the turn and it wasn't played. You could probably even make it a 3/4 and it wouldn't be overpowered. Or, you could make it a 4/5 or a 2/6 and have it add a random demon from the past to both player's hands.
Yeah, it's power creep, for sure. Truesilver Champion itself doesn't see a ton of play. If standard has a better 2 or 3 mana weapon, that typical gets chosen instead. My thought here is that the paladin set will have a lot of weapon synergy, which could easily backfire and cause a lot of weapon removal. I'll consider other variations, or even entire other concepts for the character. Thanks for your feelings on this one, it'll probably see changes.
I need to think over the wording on this card more. I want it to go into play as a Rogue Secret, since this set will add to the 3 existing rogue secrets from KnC. I also want it to trigger secret synergy cards, like secret keeper. This was like the 2nd or 3rd wording I've used. I'm going to think over your suggestions and try to pin down the perfect wording.
"at the start of your opponent's turn, transform in a random secret"
While for Lothraxion I can see it either as a deathrattle like Tyrion, or at (5) mana, even as a 4/5.
Great ideas so far.
Can't wait to see Demon Hunter Illidan, do my boy proud with that card.
The set looks cool so far! I had a similar idea for a Legion expansion, with each class getting a Legion-allied Legendary. Keep it up
I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.
The Hunter legendary should be Hakkar the Houndmaster. That fits the Hunter flavour a lot more closely.

A man is lying on the street, some punks chopped off his head
I'm the only one who stops to see if he's dead.
Hmm. Turns out he's dead.
Like it but the main problem is The Dark Portal on average it draws you 5 cards for just three Mana I feel like it should cost around 5-7 mana
I love the theme of this and I really wish it would be used in an official card set. So much lore potential and iconic characters to use. Would most certainly be neat to see the demon tribe extend beyond just warlock and neutral. I'm not a card expert, so I won't comment on how good the individual cards are, but the theme seems right on point. Illidian as a hunter is a great idea-- I've been wondering how to fit him into a class myself lately, and Kil'jaeden makes perfect sense as a mage.

Can I ask, what's the point of Eavesdropping? You guess correctly and the opponent gets value? Also even if you corrected it to say 'your deck', it still would be massively underpowered. Curious Glimmerroot is a similar card and it comes with a 3/3 body and the card gets directly added to your hand.
Impstigator should say 'attacks a random enemy minion'. At the moment he's too random of an effect to see play and it he shouldn't allow the opponents face to get hit as it wouldn't feel good as the opponent when the rogue is playing aggro. I see Impstigator more as a less reliable and more inconsistent Supercollider.
Favorite Card: Vulpera Scoundrel
Dust Wishlist: Zephrys the Great, Siamat, High Priest Amet, Psychopomp, & Plague of Death
I feel there are too many Demons overall. I agree with the idea of having a "good" side aside. Especially when it's an invasion. There have to be something that fights against the invasion.
Hello and welcome to the Tox Show!
Hey thanks for all the feedback guys.
One Eavesdropping, maybe it should be more clear. If you guess correctly, the card leaves their hand goes back into their deck. It's like a preemptive pyschic scream that makes you test your knowledge of your opponent's deck. Any suggestions on how I might word this better? I tried using Curious Glimmeroot as the model and that has confused people.
Too many demons. Possibly! Its my goal to add more non-tribe minions and minions of other tribes. Hunter is currently a 'good guy class' or maybe more anti-hero, its using demons to fight demons. Paladin is similar, with a redeemed dreadlord leading them and the shackled dreadlord being the only demons I plan for that class and lots of focus on silver hand recruits and various effects that interact with legendary cards.
Shaman I think will be based around the observers, the behold rip-off guys. Their crazy eye type stuff seems perfect for overload cards.
Warrior will be themed on Doomguards and also Fel Reavers (which are mechs). But it'll be part of the Legion invasion group.
I need suggestions for Priest! I've been thinking about Voidlords? But I also think priest is a good candidate for a 'anti-legion' class.
More tweaks and cards coming today and this weekend.
I think a good balance of demons to non-demons would be to look at GvG and Boomsday. Because these sets were largely tribal focused, I think they'd provide a good basis for how many of one tribe is enough.
Also sorry about the Eavesdropping; I completely misinterpreted that card. I don't know how'd you reword it to fix it. Love the idea though!
Favorite Card: Vulpera Scoundrel
Dust Wishlist: Zephrys the Great, Siamat, High Priest Amet, Psychopomp, & Plague of Death
Good idea, I'll go survey those sets and see just how many mechs they had compared to others.
Edit: Slightly under half of the minions in Boomsday and GvG are mechs. A large portion of them neutral. Some classes have no mechs, though most have at least 1 or 2. Some are entirely mechs, like warrior in boomsday.
I'll let this guide me, and start trying to include more non-demons.
Added Warrior cards tonight and made adjustments to a bunch of rogue cards. Also some new neutrals.
I like the idea but some cards (notably Warriors) are absurd powerful.
Rampaging Doomguard (5 mana 5/7 Rush, discard card on attack) - this totally should be Warlock card. Warrior never had interactions with card discard and it should not have.
Fel Orc Raider (4 mana 6/3, hit opp face = random discard from opp hand!) - This card is not that powerful (because its easy to kill) but there should not be cards that Discard cards from opponent hand. This could burn cards from opponent deck after hitting face (like Gnomeferatu battlecry) and still this is much suited as Warlock minion.
Mannoroth - absurdly OP. Its just "Battecry: deal 8 to all minions" reworded. And yes its absurd board clear with 8/10 Minion attached to it.
God of War (10 mana, draw 10, gain 10 armor, gain 10 attack) - damn, that is beyond absurd. This deal 10 damage ( the same as Pyroblast) AND give you 10 Armor AND draws you full hand. Really? [Hearthstone Card (Ultimate Infestation) Not Found] was not OP enough?
Pulverise (6 mana destroy minion + 3 damage to other minions) - Another OP card. Assasinate + hellfire in Warrior in one card... Warrior does not have "kill cards" without downside or prerequisition - like them being injured or you having tons of armor. This is another card looking like Warlock card (and still OP).
Inferno Prince (6 mana 6/6 deal 6 damage to minion) - this is to strong as neutral rare card, this is like Siamat who took Rush and Divine Shield to deal 6 damage. Only 1 mana cheaper and rare not legendary. If this dealt something like 3 damage still would be powerful but not such OP.
Thanks, probably going to rework some of them. One thing I'm certain of is that I don't need this man board clear and removal effects, I've got cards that are filling the same niches. Part of the point of the set is to fuse warlock mechanics into the other 8 classes, pretty sure I want to keep discard stuff in Warrior, though it is unusual.
Infernal Prince isn't comparable to Siamat. It's more comparable to something like Blazecaller. Unlike that card, you can't go face with it, so you might be required to blast your own minions if an enemy minion isn't available to target. Siamat is flexible, Inferno Prince really isn't flexible.
I think I'll keep God of War how it is. Much like UI or even the new Octosari (deathrattle draw 8), drawing that many cards is actually a problem. It's unlikely you'd have that as your only card in hand. And aside from overdraw problems, if this isn't played early in the game, you're likely putting yourself in fatigue. And yeah, it's pyroblast, but you're also taking the damage if you hit a minion and you can't skip over taunts.
Mannoroth, Pulverize and the Raider are likely going to get revisions.
Also worked a bit on Shaman and Priest, going to put some of that up later.
Infernal Prince is definitely overpowered. It's a 6/6 minion that casts Fireball for only 6 Mana. True, it can't go face, but it's still an amazing control card. Possibly better than Omega Devastator because you can play it earlier, and it's neutral.
Also, may i point out that Fel Chieftain Jubei is essentially a Hellfire with a 4/4 body.
Great work on the rest, I really like the Hunter cards! (Is Warglaive of Azzinoth accidentally Neutral?)
Ill give some more thought to Inferno Prince. I feel its similarly balanced to Cloud Prince and Blazecaller, but those do require some deckbuilding, even if the final mana cost/benefit seems similar. I want some powerful neutral demons in the set, just need to decide if this is way to do it.
Good catch on Warglaive of Azzinoth. Its supposed to be hunter, ill change it soon.
Added stuff for the remaining classes, Priest and Shaman. Also, I haven't worked everyone's feedback in yet. I wanted to get concepts down for all nine classes before I double backed to older classes too much.
BUT, I had a big breakthrough today. My set didn't have a new Keyword, which is unusual. Nothing had come into my mind, but I considered a 'Burning' keyword, since this set is about the Burning Legion after all. I looked over the cards I had made and realized, my keyword was already in my set! I just hadn't noticed it yet. So here is the Burning Keyword.
The great part about this keyword, it greatly shrinks the text of 'At the end of your turn' cards. I already had lots of these cards in the set, making them into self sacrificing cards just increased the demonic flavor of the set. This is effectively the same effect as Imp Master
Here's a bunch of them, I'm not going to pust them into the main post yet, as I want to think this through more.
This set just keeps getting better and better. I like the new keyword and the class flavor seems to be on point. There's variety yet consistency over the theme. Keep up the good work.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
thanks! I think that's enough of a thumbs up for me to add the keyword into the set. It's simple, it's familiar, it's intuitive, it fits the theme and and opens lots of design space.
I'm liking this expansion so far, and I agree: Burning is a cool keyword (and it helps the readability of the set). I like how each class has it's own identity in the expansion. Keep it up! Two questions though:
1. Does the Firestarter replace the other minion's text with his, or just add it as an enchantment?
2. Alter of Kings seems like a really strong card at the moment, because being able to get multiples of a specific Legendary would be massive for certain decks (like Feugen/Stalaggs, Leeroy, any of the Old Gods, etc...). Maybe up its Mana cost or include enemy Legendaries or something like that? I don't know, just throwing that out there.
Also, you could use this as a visual example of Burning if you want (or not, doesn't bother me either way).
-Hordaki (rhymes with Mordecai)
Check out the Tactician custom class!
Good point on firestarter. I might make it like 'add this minions card text' or something. Use 'add' instead of 'gain', i dont want it to remove a creatures existing ability. Altar of Kings might be too powerful, you're right. I was actually considering removing the discover part, so you just get a legendary that died (friendly or maybe both sides?).
Thanks for the Imp Master!
Hey, lots of new cards up. I think I'm nearly at the halfway point. Some classes are finished, or they have all their cards at least. Check out Druid, Shaman, Paladin and Warrior.
Hey, going to bump the thread again. The set is nearly complete! I have a bunch of neutral cards left, mostly commons, 1 epic, a couple rares. The classes have each undergone multiple revisions to hone their identity and themes.
It's my intention to let this sit for a week or so, before returning to it and doing a final pass and making some nifty promo graphics.
I appreciate any feedback you have! If you see typos, mechanical problems or balance problems let me know. I'll follow up on those and edit them.
One thing that stood out immediately was "Call of the Satyr". This card already exists: Mark of the Lotus. Perhaps this card could be altered so it's not a straight reprint? Aside from that and some potential balance issues other people have already brought up, this looks like it could be a pretty fun and interesting set!
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Look a little bit closer. Call of the Satyr actually says +1/-1, not +1/+1.
Call of the Satyr and also the Warrior spell Blood Pact are both spells I'm considering cutting. Might just cut 1 of them. Both are fairly weak, but it feels a bit weird to have both, since they're so similar.
Oh DAMN! That'd be a shame concede after I play that and destroy my board of 1 health minions. LO
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Blood Curse you mean? I kind of like that card actually. It's a conditional type of buff that can also benefit from having Enrage minions in play, as well as good ol' Armorsmith. Even just playing Grommash Hellscream with double Blood Curse and double Inner Rage on 10 mana is a big 18 damage finisher with no taunts, Counterspell, or other condition stopping you.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Yeah, I'm leaning towards keeping the warrior spell and redoing the druid one. Druid needs some token synergy stuff if the rest of the set is so treant focussed. I'll give it some thought when I return to this next week. I'm sure a number of cards will stick out as 'bad' once I get some distance.
Thought I'd give this thread a bump. The set was never finished, but I think it's neat how many of my cards reflect cards releasing in Ashes of Outland. A lot of the same characters, especially Illidan, obviously.
Probably won't finish this now, as it'd require major reworking of a couple classes. Just neat to see my head was in a similar spot to blizzard.
