Odds of buckets

Submitted 4 years, 7 months ago by

Hi,

does anyone know if there is a bonus to get offered a bucket again, if you pick it? I feel that there are a lot of buckets that, whenever I try to go for them, I just don´t get offered them again and it is completely worthless. Like Kingsbane bucket, Cthun, and so on - they don´t mesh well with anything else, and you kind of pick them dreaming of the perfect insane theme deck, but it very rarely seems to comes together for me.

Also, how do you approach those kind of buckets? Do you like to try to go for them sometimes, or do you just pick solid ones that are easy to combine with other random stuff?

I´m asking for Tombs of Terror, but I am sure it is the same as the Great Dalaran Heist. And I generally play on the difficult mode, which is something to keep in mind.

Well, as far as i know those buckets are random - if you pick a C'Thun Bucket it does not mean you will get another C'Thun bucket the next time!

I personaly would not count on a specific bucket - just look which of those 3 buckets would be the best for the deck you have at the moment - and also depending on the Powers you got so far - for example if you get the passive Power (your minions that costs 5 or more cost 5) you can pick big minions.

So to answer your question i always pick the one that would be best for my current deck even if some of the synergys i picked before would not be supported :)

As far as I know the buckets are just random, although I feel there definitely should be a weighting because some of the archetypes are unplayable unless you get enough of those cards. This was a persistent problem in previous dungeon runs as well, so you would have thought something like this would've been implemented by now.

I recall how absolutely maddening it was to play Battlecry shaman in Rumble Run and to get turn after turn of non-battlecry garbage, only to see the AI's version of the deck stacked with Keleseth, Mistcaller, etc.

I also wouldn't mind if passive treasures influenced the buckets slightly, EG higher chance for expensive minions after you pick Scepter of Summoning, higher chance for spells if you pick the Robe of the Magi, etc. It feels miserable when you get a good treasure and then completely whiff on anything to support it, especially early on b/c the starting deck is usually just a bunch of weenies.

I definitely believe that they are weighted based on your previous choices so that you have a good chance of having a successful run, though that's just one person which makes for a terrible sample size.

I recall back to a few times where I was playing with C'Thun and it seemed like every other boss at least I was getting more C'Thun friendlies. Same deal with the current Tombs of Terror where I went for Battlecry and it showed up every single boss kill except one.

I wouldn't be surprised if AliRadicali was right and that Treasures could also play into bucket weighting.

Nothing client-side shows anything that supports bucket weighting, but as we know from Blizzard, nothing is ever truly random.

Hmm interesting. Bit of a mixed bag...

I felt in the first dungeon run, that it was pretty clearly increased odds to get e.g. jades if you picked jades. But not guaranteed. But these last 2, Im not so sure. Maybe it is just a slight bonus...

Yeah, if there is a bonus, it is very likely to be minimal. The Dungeon Crawls can be more fun when you have a couple of different synergies so if you only ever got Battlecry bundles, you'd always feel like you had to take them or you'd be doing your deck a disservice.

There was a patch a while back that increased the odds of getting buckets you have previously picked repeated. So, yes to the OPs question. Not sure how much the bonus is, but it was noticable when they added it.

Note: Increased chance is not a guarantee of a repeat. Sometimes the RNG gods hate you.
