Obligatory petition to move Whizbang to the Classic set.

Or, if nothing else? Print an equivalent of him as a replacement for one of the Legendary cards, if Edwin or Leeroy actually do get HOF'd. Look, it would be better than nothing.

I'm not a budget player, I'm a collector. I own every card in the game and I don't see myself slowing down on that pace anytime soon. So don't anyone make the argument that I have a personal bias here, as this change would not affect me in the slightest. But I do understand that a card like Whizbang as a permanent addition to Standard makes the game a lot more accessible for people, especially considering how much more expensive Hearthstone gets with every new set.

There's been some talks of it around the forums here and there, but never anything serious. With rotation season growing closer and closer, I think we as a community really need to make a big push to Blizzard about this and see where it gets us. Now or never, you know?

      They'll reprint him every year or so, and that's the best way to meet in the middle for F2P's and Blizzard. Print out a new card so resources have to be invested into it.

      The technology exists to make this card actually happen and it would be a shame to see it die when Zayle, Shadow Cloak rotates out next year.

      As for moving him to the classic set, he may well be the first. They haven't done it yet but he and Zayle definitely belong there.

  • I agree. In wild, whizbang is totally useless because he only uses standard deck recipes. He is a much better replacement for Ragnaros the Firelord than High Inquisitor Whitemane.

  • I had a theory a while back that maybe, just MAYBE, the reason we got [Hearthstone Card (Snip-snap) Not Found] added to BDP was because they planned on eventually moving Whizbang into the Classic set.  I mean, if you think about it... at the time each set was only supposed to have 135 different cards, 23 of which were legendary.  Now you introduce a 24th legendary (that everyone got for logging on) and it's in the same set as Whizbang.  So why do that?  Well... maybe if you were planning on moving him into the Classic (or even the Basic set, perhaps...) to then reduce BDP back to the standard 23 legendary minions again.

    But since that theory they had DoD with 28 legendaries, granted we all got 6 of them for free.  Plus a few more from the solo adventure for DoD.  So does this mean they aren't concerned with having only 23 legendary cards per expansion?!  Apparently, they are not.

    Ultimately, there is the potential for some big changes coming soon anyway, which I'm wondering will finally be the end of the Basic/Classic sets' evergreen status in Standard, and perhaps moving to a more "Core Set" model that has been suggested over and over again by guys like Kibler.

    What I'm actually expecting to happen though: All this hype of big changes coming soon will amount to nothing more than an Artifact level of payoff...

  • Being a pessimistic player, I don't see that this will happen.

    Firstly, In my terribly honest opinion, Blizzard is not really a pure F2P game. When you want to play a competitive deck, you surely have to work your way to that deck, either by buying it, or work your way slowly, grinding gold from quest etc.

    Secondly, Whizbang the Wonderful can be considered a competitive deck. It's random deck consists of all the Standard Year Cards. It's like when you have that one card, you don't really have to buy any more pack to get more cards, because that one card is all you need. Blizzard wouldn't want that. They want you to buy packs.

    Thirdly, we have other cards like Zayle, Shadow Cloak which doing almost the same thing. I can think Blizzard will print out more card like that in the future, instead of having Whizbang the Wonderful moved to Classic.

      Your arguments against Whizbang the Wonderful moving to classic has some holes in it. My opinion on your opinion;

      - Whizbang decks are randomly selected, and therefore not meta dependent. Even if there exist a deck that can beat anything, you're still on a 1/18 chance to get it every time you queue up. Therefore, using Whizbang to climb ladder competitively is not viable.

      -  If ranking up ladder is the real goal to playing hearthstone, there's always a reasonably cheap deck in tier 1-2 that cost less than 1600 dust (commons and rares aside). There's no reason to rely solely on Whizbang to do this

      - As have been pointed out by others, Whizbang decks are not refined, and doesn't react to what is meta. Therefore, it usually doesn't come with tech cards, and doesn't allow for creativity, or in fact, any fun in the deck building aspect of the game.

      - I think its safe to say that people who play hearthstone, from the FTP to the barnacle-infested whales, will still open up packs and generally like collecting cards. Having a one-card collection will hardly appeal to anyone seriously taking up hearthstone as a regular in their schedule of games.

      - And last point, Blizzard doesn't tend to change their recipes even after major nerfs. The only exception that I can remember is when Call to Arms was nerfed out of the even slot, which was promptly replaced with Saronite Chain Gang, which was later 'nerfed' as well. So, you can easily end up with a chance for a massively nerfed version of a deck.

      I'm all for Whizbang the Wonderful to be classic. But again, how much impact will this make to hearthstone in general? Probably none at all.

      • Well, I didn't say a high ranked play, just competitive enough, that you don't have to craft any cards, because it's already include most of Standard Cards.

        • Lol, you get a thumbs up from me simply for resorting to that technicality. With that definition even the basic set is 'competitive'.

          But in all seriousness, there's a good reason why the argument "Hearthstone is too expensive to play/have fun with" is not easily countered with Whizbang the Wonderful. I think that suffices as a counter argument.

    I completely agree. If you want a top tier deck, you should be expected to shell out some cash for it. The game has to turn a profit somehow, it's how the world works. But here's the thing.

    Whizbang decks are frequently missing key cards and usually substitute poor versions of what pulls the archetype together. And some Whizbang decks are straight up -not even good-. It's the trade off for going a Whizbang deck. You'll have a playable deck with recent cards but it's going to be VERY unrefined. And if you want a better version of that deck? Then you pay for it.

  • No.. Keep it in standard but as a reward, don't want to open him in packs.. Just give him for free to everyone (and give 1600/3200 dust to people who own the card).

    Again, I completely agree. He's just an extreme budget option. Nothing more, nothing less.

    Regardless? I don't see any reason why the option shouldn't be available for anyone who wants it.

    And I agree with you too, my good sir. Whizbang is an extremely limited way to play the game and is no substitution for actually deckbuilding. Nor do I feel he was ever meant to be. 

    I'm certainly not proposing Whizbang as this great solution to make Hearthstone F2P for everyone, nobody will have a reason to give Blizzard money ever again! Nor do I think anybody pro-Whizbang believes he's a miracle cure or anything close to it. He's just a very affordable option to potentially give you a lot of other tools to experiment with, nothing more and nothing less. It's something that makes sense to have in the game, that's already in the game, that won't require them to change any mechanics or anything (apart from modify deck recipes, which is something they already do with each expac up to this point anyway) So... why take him out? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

  • I don't have Whizbang and usually don't use the deck recipes, so I can't really say something about his viability. But if they should move him to classic, I would actually consider crafting him and stop paying cash for standard. I'm playing wild most of the time and only coming back to standard to toy with the new cards and grind those hero portraits on lower ranks. I guess Whizbang would be sufficient for that, wouldn't he (assuming I don't care which hero I grind with)?

  • I figure they'll just continually reprint him like they did with Zayle. I mean, real talk - the number of people who play more than half a dozen games with Whizbang in a month can't be all that high, proportionately...
