So Done With Hearthpwn.. Think I'm going here now.

I have been banned on that site around 8 times. You might guess that it would seem that I must be a toxic poster (to be honest when I was new there a couple times I truly was..) but take into consideration my last ban: "trolling" for starting a thread named, "Nozdormu is racist against mobile players" which was a serious post on how Nozzy is oppressive to the playerbase that are playing on phones. The use of racist was just good ol tongue in cheek humor. Well, xskarma slams me again with a ban. To make it worse they have an option to 'appeal' but every time I have and explained myself they never respond even when they were boarish with the ban stick.

Anybody else experience this tyranny there?

    • I left Heartpwn for good when OoC launched. Run away and don't look back. This place is full of good people, and is ran by people who actually care about this game and the community. And Flux and Co. listen to your feedback, and implement good suggestions (very quickly). 

      I can't speak for banning, but I don't see you getting banned here for calling Nozdormu racist. 

       

      The team that runs Hearthpwn is just trying to make money off of the hard work that Flux and Co. did over there for years. They are feeding on the hard work of others, and don't care to do anything for the community to make it better.

      My tone on this site is probably what you would consider exceptionally milquetoast so I don't really feel qualified to answer your direct question.  I will say though that, when this site first started, I originally tried splitting my attention between both here and HearthPwn, and over time its grown to a 99:1 split.  Basically: I go over there every couple of weeks to remember why I don't go more often.  Between the frequency and quality of articles, the moderation, and the community, this site is just superior to that one.  

    • FWIW, I saw your thread when I was lurking on the old site last week and didn't find it offensive. In hindsight, I can see mods possibly issuing a word of warning given how sensitive a term 'racist' is, but an outright ban seems a bit overboard.

      Anyway, done now. Welcome to OoC!

  • I mean...if you have a history of trollposting over there they're not gonna be lenient with you forever.

     

    However, you probably won't have this problem here, as long as you don't post dumb shit excessively. Also the mods are rather talkative and will usually give warnings when they think you're showing concerning behaviour.

    Basically, as long as you check yourself when you get called out for something you should be fine.

  • Well you'll find quite a few of the people here happy to have left the mire of HearthPwn, and the admins are in no way tyrannical, so welcome.

    I hope you have learned something from your bans however, even if they were heavy-handed. If nothing else "Nozdormu is racist against mobile players" is less helpful than "Nozdormu is unfair on mobile players" and its mere wording does provoke less measured responses. Why even open yourself up to comments about the use of 'racist' when you are posing a genuine discussion about game mechanics?

  • True that, I'm just a fan of cut-throat humor. You'll find that I'm not a harasser, nor was I there, so I'll try not to come off too brazen since yeah I was an everyday poster on hearthpwn but it's behind me now. xskarma is a lousy moderator in my opinion. Tired of walking on eggshells around there. Thanks for all the welcomes : D

  • still going there just because it has a bigger user base is a mistake. go to reddit for that. here its a more serious and actually competent site run by the original mods that made that website famous within HS community.

    if the ppl that made it what its is left, then why stay there? any institution is made by ppl not by some physical structure. its very essence ceases to exist if those who made it leave. unless they are replaced by equally competent ppl. of that im pretty sure they didnt accomplish

  • As far as I know all the good mods (bar one or two who stayed there) moved on over here. I'm not sure what's left of the moderation team over there but the fact that they made their most notorious troll a mod was reason enough for me to never post there again.

    So yeah, as long as you stay in line you shouldn't have too much trouble here.

      No one on the staff stayed with Pwn. They brought some old staff members back that were removed for inactivity or ill-doings.

      So on the subject of "Nozdormu is racist against mobile players"

      That's a really stupid title, even if your meaning of it is to be tongue in cheek. Racism is a real problem and using the word like that makes it seem like its a joke. Honestly, you'd have been warned here for the same thing. Now, the reason they never responded to your appeal is that they're either lazy or the system is still a broken piece of garbage. There's actually a lot of stuff on their site that is probably still broken from all the mismanagement over the years, it really is amazing how much stuff was able to fall through the cracks. It took a lot of us a lot of time to keep a watchful eye over things so they didn't get too crazy.

      Though without a doubt the real problem over there, in this case, is they've tossed you to the curb. I know the mentality of people on the team there and as soon as you get banned a couple of times, you're done for. When it was the original team, even people who were the largest of offenders (hey Sherman!), were always responded to even if it was to tell them that there was no chance we were going to overturn their temp bans.

        i was wondering the same, but i didnt want to start some hate train on a mod even if its not from this website. BUT i am curious xd

        Let's just say there's a certain desert insect over there who's very good at taking a certain stance and refusing to acknowledge any opposition, no matter how valid it may be, very frequently. And that person is now a moderator, seems like a match made in heaven :)

          oh god they made skorpi-boy a mod? Well that certainly can't be helping things.

           

          I don't have anything against the guy personally, but if he has set an opinion on something he wouldn't change it even if the heavens parted and god himself came down to tell him to cut it out.

Hearthstone community is good but it's REAALLY OVERPROTECTIVE over hearthstone and I've tried to test that couple of times. People in the community slam you with insane ammount of dislikes if you have any bad comment for the game. It's not good for the health of the community and game. Chill guys, it's just a game. If I feel a card/deck is op and should be fixed, take into consideration that is ONLY an opinion. And to think that it is a pay to win game too, so I kind of have a right to express my anger and discontent when i feel like it because of the money I've paid for the game. Hearthpwn community seems to have a lot more aggressive people than outofcards. I swear, every time i see a "oh you don't like it? then stop playing" comment i will slap that dislike faster than the speed of light.

      It's not the problem of Hearthpwn only. OutOfCard has the same problem. Stupid fanboys, giving minuses for the truth about Bli$$ard. But, yeah, whatever.

        The issue isn't that you are saying anything bad about blizzard, it is that you sound super salty and arrogant. For example:

        You are asking for something that won't get MONEY to them and requires EFFORT to do. Do you really think they're gonna do it, if there is no profit in it? LUL They are GREEDY BLI$$ARD, after all LUL

      I can't agree with this because I have some great discussions here while comparing LoR vs HS with calling something bad about HS.

      Well, that might be about those topics was on LoR forum and maybe those fanboys might not even open those other game forums, I don't know but from my personal experiences, people here knows the difference between criticism and defamation and how this is really a good thing for the game you criticize (Hearthstone here).

      For that "oh you don't like it then stop playing" comment. I don't think it is a fanboy comment to be honest. That might sometimes mean "I am aware of the problem you have mentioned there but that doesn't bother me to play this game and I have no valid argument against it. if it bothers you, stop playing it because there is nothing you can do about it."
      To be honest, That's mostly what we can do for the products that we use. We are consumers, we can suggest companies some stuff but we are not decision makers for those products. If they don't care those problems and if they are vital points for you to consume, Stop using is the best valid option for you most of times. So I really think that comment is not salty or flame-y or troll everytime.

        Honestly, it was just snarky humor. Certainly not racist in of itself and acceptable as being hyperbolic. I believe most people wouldn't consider the title, "Nozdormu is racist against mobile players" banworthy. Or maybe Ive just watched too much adult swim idk

        • yeah not ban worthy. but maybe a reminder that its a very offensive word, specially cause u are separating a part of the gaming community. by saying nozdormu is racist means mobile players are a different type of gamers, which isnt the truth at all. additionally "racism" continues to be a serious problem even in a modern society and a mod would immediately understand that it was a poor attempt at humor and more like a disguised attempt at making a bold title in order to bring viewers to your post.

          but yeah, ban worthy would be too much for me even for past transgressors imo

          To the topic: you can be snarky, but you shouldnt be in poor taste, and using words like "racist" or especially my favorite "retarded" as adjective in regular conversation as a "lighthearted fun", or as an actual insult etc. That is not something one should do. Ever. Let alone on a public forum. I can understand using that kind of sense of "humor" among friends who know each other, but not online.

          While i dont think that what you did was a bannable offense, it did deserve a response. And as few ppl said already, it is always a good time to take a step back and think about your (posting) behavior, if you get called on it. They might be wrong about calling you out sometimes, they might be right tho. All im saying is, one should be more mindful of the stuff that one lets out in the open, is all ;-)

          I personally stopped frequenting HearthPwn as soon as OutOfCards was a thing.  Mostly because at that time HearthPwn was supposed to be getting shut down, but even when it was announced they would stay online I just stayed.  I won't detail the history of that whole saga, but I'm sure there is a few forum posts about it all if you want to find them.

          But ultimately I found that the majority of people who followed Flux and crew from HP to OoC are a great part of the Hearthstone community.  And you're sure to see some super salty posts on here as well from time to time, but I feel like the toxicity levels here are WAY under what HP was/is.  The only time I still go there is if I'm looking for an old deck list from before this site existed to try and refresh an old deck idea for wild.

          Anyway, welcome!  Hope you like it here.

        I just remember he once made a thread about how Temporus could possibly be used to counter Ice Block and then got extremely aggressive when pretty much everyone told him that the idea was completely ridiculous because giving Mage two free turns is basically suicide in 9/10 cases (which it is, obviously).

        It got so bad that he basically discredited anyone who didn't agree with his very ill conceived points a troll...despite being pretty much objectively wrong.

          After reading your post, I decided to search his thread history and find the one you were referring to. I browsed through the first five pages and stumbled upon another interesting thread about Southsea Captain and the things you said above checked out. :/

          Now, I don't want to start a "name and shame" trend, because it's not the purpose of this thread (+ it's kinda against the rules), but I am just going to say, that I had met much, much worse trolls back in hpwn. Like I remember a dude, who wrote walls of scatty text and sometimes they even compared hs to political scenes or to a certain psychological behaviour. They went extremely off-topic.

          I vividly remember the exact same scenario but with him claiming the Call to Arms nerf would be a major buff to odd paladin. Because aggro decks love paying 5 mana for 3 mana worth of stats and deck thinning is apparently also something they want now.

  • Tongue in cheek is one thing.  Being a douchebag for the sake of raising a few eyebrows is another.  While I understand why you voiced it the way you did... there are other words that could have been used to achieve the impact you wanted without venturing into the area of racism.

      How could they ban you for comparing net decker spikes to the most racist dictator ever who killed million of innocents, justified ban.
