Suggestions for a new wild player

Hi dear hs players,

I want to craft a deck or two in wild and I need your ideas to help me choose :)

I took a break after gvg adventure and came back after witchwood so I feel like I missed many good content in between, now I want to play some wild to see those cool cards. And as you guess my wild collection is not so wild, it's made of only KoFT year. So I probably can't play 200k dust decks.

My favorite class is Rogue but the rogue decks I checked already seem familiar so I want to try something different. I also enjoy playing warlock, mage and shaman. It doesn't have to be tier 1, I will play it in the rank 10-20 territory. I'd prefer control/combo over aggro. 

So what do you guys enjoy playing in wild? What would be the single most enjoyable deck to play in wild occasionally? I'm looking forward to hearing any ideas!

  • Well, if someone asks me what I find enjoyable in wild, I would immediately answer Thief Priest. I don't recommend you my deck in the signature, because it's very expensive and I see priest isn't one of your beloved classes. I also like playing other decks like Renolock, Shuffle (Plot Twist) warlock, Reno mage, Factory Rogue (not a ladder-worthy deck), Jade Rogue (not a ladder-worthy deck), Jade Shudderwock Shaman, ShudderYogg Shaman (not a ladder-worthy deck), C'thun Shaman etc etc. If you need an inspiration, I would gladly name you two streamers, who I watch often - Dane and Roffle.

    Regarding your personal preferences:

    Odd Rogue is very popular and is also a good deck, but I guess you want to try out something else. How about Mill Rogue? You would have a better time dealing with Big Priest and their bs. Pogo-Hopper rogue has more support in wild, but I don't know how you would overcome some aggro decks like mech hunter and odd paladin. Warlock offers a lot of variety - Genn Greymane (aka Even) warlock, Zoo Carpet warlock, Mecha'thun Warlock, Renolock with Mecha'thun, Darkest Hour (though this is very expensive and it requires you to be extremely lucky), Cubelock. Mage's decks are mostly aggro - Miracle and Tempo/Burn - but there are some combo options like Exodia (Open the Waygate, Archmage Antonidas and friends), which are somewhat strong. Shaman offers mostly mid-range or aggro decks - Even, Quest or questless murloc. I have stumbled upon some good Jade decks and you would be able to counter Big Priests, Odd Paladins and Mech hunters with Devolve, but they are a bit expensive. Big Shaman is also a fun ladder choice, but it's really expensive.

  • Quest Miracle Mage is probably one of the most fun decks out there. It's basically an open Combo deck. Not even too expensive, since the mandatory legendaries are just 2 (Open the Waygate + Stargazer Luna).

    Reno decks are fun too, but they perform worse than Miracle in the current Wild meta (although, if you know very well what you are doing, you can still have a positive wr). Obviously Reno decks are the most expensive decks out there, so it might not be an easy option for a start.

      I second this. Miracle mage is a fun, strong deck that's not too expensive.

      For rogue decks specifically, other than the ones already mentioned, you could also take a look at Big rogue. Although that deck isn't super competitive or budget-friendly, it can be a lot of fun.

  • I made a shaman deck that is something new and works. ;-). And it´s not too expensive. (you mentioned Shaman)

    Hallazeal the Ascended is replaceable and that makes the deck no so expensive.

  • Aggro Murloc Shaman, Everyfin is Awesome with this deck.  It beats them or it fails quickly.  Just keep in mind that in Wild, the early tempo doesn't matter as much because all classes have access to substantial healing.  Don't drop the murlocs until you can bait out some removal and drop enough of them to stick.  If you played murloc shaman in standard, you already have most of the cards.

  • murloc shamans and big priests between 10-5 seemed dominant. A few odd paladins and questmages spread in. Walked from 10-5 fast with secret paladin hehe.

    Actually I'm surprised that there are really good cheap options. Like I mentioned I don't really want to play at ranks higher than 10. Bcz I imagine there'll be only top tier decks there and I want to play in a less competitive environment :)

    At first glance Renolock seems like the deck I've been looking for and I'll probably end up crafting it. Also it has common cards with the shuffle deck.

    Miracle mage is another one I'm looking into. It's a lot cheaper and seems really fun.

    How about Mill Rogue? You would have a better time dealing with Big Priest and their bs.

    Since I have most of the cards for this deck I'll give it a try first and see how are the other decks play.

     

  • First of all, welcome to Wild!

    Second, remember the golden rule of wild: if you are not looking for high legend, forget the meta report, tier statistic, etc, and play what you like: there is so much freedom that you really don't need a high tier deck to climb... at least for a while.

     

    Third: if you want to play competitive wild, I think that the first legendaries you should craft are Genn and Baku. Even the budget version of odd/even deck are really strong, for example odd paladin or even shaman. Yes, you'll find on the net list full of expensive cards... but you don't really need them, you can play with success a budget version of those archetype. Odd rogue, odd paladin, even shaman are all really strong.

    Do not play think about big priest because that is really expensive... and you'd need at least some legendaries to make it works (Barnes, Vargoth, the Old God, are a must).

    Fourth: if you instead want to play for fun wild... well, you are literally free to play anything.
    I personally would suggest some kind of Miracle Rogue (I love play Miracle Giant rogue in wild, there are so much interesting interactions!), renolock if you own enough cards, evenlock with echo molten giant, zoolock if you are in a budget. For the shaman I don't know, my favourite TTK shaman is expensive :)

  • How much are you willing to invest or would need to invest?  I really love playing Reno Mage in Wild, but keep in mind, control decks are generally a bit more pricey.

  • I started playing Wild last month when I was going for my golden Rogue hero card.  I played Kingsbane Rogue and did pretty well with it.  This month i've been working towards the golden Shaman and i'm mostly playing Even Shaman.   

    I didn't start playing Hearthstone until Knights Of The Frozen Throne came out so I missed everything before that.  Recently I bought the old Adventures which was really fun because I mostly used decks I found in the guides which were from back then so I felt like I got to play them the same way everyone else did.  Anyways, the point of me telling you that is if you don't mind spending the money you can get those adventures and unlock all the cards while having fun doing it.    

  • I think that the most band for your buck decks are Odd Rogue, Even Sham, and Even Lock. You need the 2 Legends Baku the Mooneater and Genn Greymane. These archetypes have been staples in wild for about a year or more. Big Priest is the most oppressive thing on the ladder honestly, I have it in my deck arsenal but rarely play it due to its unfun factor. I really like Even Lock as it is a speedy version of Handlock. Need the Molten Giant and Mountain Giant possibly Lich King and Rags. Even Sham is probably one of the cheaper lists for Wild other than Mech Hunter. Odd Rogue is pretty cheap too but I'd strongly consider having Loatheb. If you have the old cards for Reno Lock it's always fun. I went through and DE most of my old adventure stuff 2 years ago and regret it as I mostly play wild now. Good luck man I am thinking about making the quest cyclone mage once I get my dust up.

  • Hi. Welcome to wild. I play it myself very briefly, started in year of dragon, before i was standard main. I had quite success with even lock and token aggro druid, they usually take me to rank 5. I play big rogue for few months, it took a hit by prep nerf but it is still viable and fun. Recently, i switched to quest miracle mage, added Vargoth for extra turn and Yogg for extra miracles. If you are purely after fun decks, check Roffle's Chaos mage, i posted it here on OOC. Yogg and Wonders are awesome:)

  • When I started playing Wild, my first picks were cheap decks, as this one:

    Aggro Overload Shaman. Sir Finley Mrrgglton is replaceable. You can also replace something with: Sludge Slurper or other cheap spells. You can steamroll with this deck to rank 10 and if you master it enough, rank 5 is also perfectly achievable. A strategy is to pressure and distract your opponent with powerful early minions and board control, then you start cycle spells and burst the face. Overload management is of a high importance.

    Other somewhat cheap Wild decks are: Freeze / Exodia Mage, some versions of Odd decks, Mech Hunter, Combo Priest and Pirate Warrior.

    Here's Pirate Warrior (the deck is powerful, but not always consistent; extremely strong at lower ranks) :

    If you would like to play Wild more in future, the best way to start upgrading your collection is by getting all 4 Adventures.

     

  • Burgle/Steal Rogue is different every game and there are different ways to build the deck: use Spectral Cutlass or not, Academic Espionage or not, only a few pirates or a lot of them etc.

    Another Rogue deck that stands out for me is Dane's Big Rogue. While it contains a lot of legendaries, you might have some of the oldies already if you played until GvG.

    Other favorites of mine are Even Warlock and Quest Druid.

     

    • That's actually what I'm playing mostly. I use both Spectral Cutlass and Academic Espionage. It functions really good until your opponent has weapon removal :) I think I'll include Pilfer as well, after the change that seems a solid card. 

      I unfortunately DEd all my wild cards last year. I hate myself for doing it. :(  I'm crafting some of them back now.
