Next Expansion(s) Thoughts (Post Teaser reveal) for Year of the Dragon

Submitted 5 years, 5 months ago by

We know that with the teaser reveal it's going to relate to the League of Explorers.

Based on this image...

I can only guess that the 2nd expansion is going to be about the League delving into maybe the Temple of AQ? The symbols look like Heiroglyphs, and we know that the original League of Explorers expansion did have some references to Anubisath Sentinels and Jeweled Scarabs, so it's not entirely impossible to think they may do more "digging" in AQ temples.

Based on the information that the entire "year of the dragon" is themed according to the devs.  We have the "Dalaran Heist" as the 1st expansion,  an unnamed League of Explorers style expansion for the 2nd image.  The 3rd image is not one I'm familiar with but it has what appears to be molten lava behind the card on the top, and a claw/tooth on the bottom.  I can only surmise that it may reference another expansion regarding Deathwing possibly Grim Batol?

Anyhow, what's everyone else's thoughts?

Not a bad theory. If this is going to be an entire year of nostalgia and throwbacks, if Dalaran was the GvG set then the next two might be LoE and Blackrock.

I remember when that image first came out a lot of people were thinking Uldaman, or something similar to that.  I think in the video revealing Rise of Shadows, Kozak had a line that said we'd go on a year long adventure that takes players to the great heights to great depths (or something like that).  That added to some thoughts of an underground location.

Either way, it would appear that the LoE team will either be following the EVIL team to stop them from obtaining some ancient treasure (or weapon).  OR perhaps they are searching out a weapon of their own to try and take back Dalaran.

My thoughts are that Rafaam and team may unleash some larger evil force or entity requiring a trip through the Caverns of Time in expansion 3 to undo something they do in expansion 2.

Quick!  Someone give me something clever to write here.

If you pay attention to Tehkan in the Dalaran Heist, he makes a lot of cryptic references to Rafaam and why he's working for him. That could just be character building, but it isn't played for laughs and it also isn't terribly informative. Maybe Rafaam is taking Dalaran to the Lost City of the Tol'vir. I never discredit weird things in solo adventures ever since Experiment 3C in The Witchwood was a giant hint at The Boomsday Project.

I'd personally love a broad Uldum-themed set, even if just for the location. We had some desert stuff in LoE, but it was only on a handful of the cards with Stranglethorn and Uldaman also fighting for attention. It's a good open space to explore.

I'm the only one who stops to see if he's dead.

    Hmm. Turns out he's dead.
