I'm gonna go with a conservative estimate and suggest that 90% of Hearthstone players don't follow the pre-release announcement cycle very closely or at all. Calling it "too little too late" is pretty silly for a mode they intend to support for years. People will come to Mercenaries in their own time, and this video will be up for them whenever they finally do.
Definitely agree that this video was a little too late. It didn't tell me anything that I hadn't figured out watching their stream (though this video was much more succinct)
I will say though that I have actively avoided watching the videos from Trump, Kripp and Slysssa. For this kind of game I prefer to discover stuff for myself (at least initially). That made this video more useful for someone like me than the Trump, Kripp and Slysssa videos.
Too little too late, perhaps? Those with genuine interest probably found other YouTube videos to watch up to this point, like Trump's, while those who didn't care about Mercenaries won't suddenly care now.
It's to increase stability of the scene, since it becomes much easier to apply franchising and generate more revenue via team sponsorships, slot buyouts and such.
I'm not sure "loss of passion" is fixable though. The problem is that getting lots of practice is essential to playing Hearthstone well: even the best players perform worse when they don't play enough games. Few people are going to stay motivated to put in that many hours year after year.
Since Hearthstone is seen as multi game mode platform now, would it be a good idea for the articles to have subcategory labels for each of the game modes on the HS frontpage? Should be helpful for easier filtering out of content especially for users who are not interested in all of the game modes.
HS Esports should have franchised TEAMS, period. Either two or three-player.
For two-player, both bring two decks, and they ban one deck among the enemy's entire lineup. For three-player, all three players bring two decks, and then each teams bans one deck from each enemy player.
I've only been playing hs for about 3 years now. I've looked at some of the quests from before I started playing from the ungoro expansion, and the quests from ungoro seem more powerful than the current ones...? Is that to be expected or do you guys think that the current quests are more powerful than previous ones?
The current quests are way more powerful than the Un'Goro ones, with the exceptions of The Caverns Below and Open the Waygate which both fit neatly into the 'play aggro or die to the quest reward' meta the Stormwind questlines have created. Given what Wild is doing now, maybe even they are outclassed.
Direct comparisons with most quests is tricky when they have different effects, but it is telling that Raid the Docks' reward outclasses Lakkari Sacrifice by an embarrassing amount in every way, and is much easier to complete. It is also more rewarding on the way. And Raid the Docks isn't even one of the strong ones (in Standard). Granted, Lakkari Sacrifice was always weak, but the degree of power creep exhibited here can't be ignored.
Overall, most Un'Goro quests took a similar amount effort to complete as the Stormwind ones, without the rewards along the way, and with a final reward that is good but rarely game ending. On average, Queen Carnassa ends up summoning maybe 1 'free' 3/2 every turn, for example, while Galvadon might end up doing nothing at all.
Maybe if the questlines didn't have rewards along the way you could consider it a fair fight? The Un'Goro ones might win then, but those first 2 stages should not be ignored.
Sad to see so many great players leave again. Not only old legends like Surrender and Thijs, but also promising newcomers like Rami and Floki. The whole system really needs an overhaul ASAP before Hearthstone esports is dead completely.

Quest Mage *overall* is at 51.1% on HSReplay - if you cherry pick specific builds which have very poor data, you'll find outliers at higher percentages, but that's not how data analysis works. You have to look at the WHOLE batch of Quest decks to make an argument about nerfing, and looking at the whole batch it's just not even close to a problem right now. You just personally don't like it and are leaning hard into confirmation bias.
I been playing since beta back in 2014, yeah I have the golden Mekkatorque, with more than 20k wins between ranked, arena and duels, and more than 1k top4 in BGs. So yeah, i am a whale and HS is my main game/hobby/whatever.
Its the first time since I started playing the game that I insta concede vs mage, i can’t handle that bullshit anymore, i just I can’t, i always tried to win even when i had a disfavored match, just forcing myself, ok dude do your best and try, but vs mage if you dont play hyper aggro it’s pointless.
It'll slow down the quest completion enough that its viable but gives enough room for a board to actually do something. Plus, that also adds another dimension to the deck's gameplan. You can draw, clear the board, or freeze, but it may not progress the quest so you cant just play blindly. In some games you can even sandbag them because all the cheap frost spells needs a target, and until then all the spells they're playing isn't going to do anything to progress the quest.
Sure, sometimes they just get all the cards they need and you just die, but it'll at least be a hell lot less consistent than it is now.
With all the 0 cost spells I fear this wouldn't change much. Between hot streak, flurry, and cheap arcane spells it doesn't seem like this would do a ton, considering most quest mages already run some if not all of the cards I mentioned...
According to HSReplay winrate of Quest Mage currently is 60+% for most refined lists.
Yeah, between bronze and gold, where almost nobody plays. HSReplay stats are completely unreliable, use vS instead.
First off, HSReplay stats are not "Completely unreliable". They may not be an indicator of certain perceptions, but to dismiss them so flippantly is condescending at best, and naïve at worst.
Secondly, even if you look "between bronze and gold", those players matter as well. Dismissing the contributions of the lower end of the ladder is a SUPER elitest and frankly speaking, rude way to treat other gamers.
Not sure what the purpose of your comment was, but if it was to be rude and piss off people without regard to anything else other than your own biases, then congrats. You did the job.
Does anyone know if there is a place you can check the translation for the "refund" keyword? I'm playing HS in Polish language and I can't find our translation for this keyword, and the english one doesn't work unfortunately in the client.

Still better than never, but yeah, this should have came like a day after the stream.

Why should the esports be teams when ladder is single player only?
