Edit: That person lost a job because she didn't sound serious enough. I am glad I didn't choose VA to be my career.
To be clear (because I misinterpreted the first time I read Riot's tweet too): the juvenile delivery in the LoR reveal is by the Pakistani-American VA, and that is currently expected to remain unchanged. The serious delivery in LoL is by the Caucasian VA; Riot still uses her (she just did LoR Zoe and will presumably do LoR Morgana in the future), but they decided it would be more appropriate to have Taliyah voiced by someone of Middle Eastern heritage.
It is unclear why they also changed the characterization so drastically when they changed VAs. Zehra Fazal is an accomplished VA more than capable of delivering a "serious" tone -- besides LoL Kayle, she's also voiced the Batman villain Talia al Ghul, the fighter pilot Nadia Rizavi from Voltron: Legendary Defender, and She Ra's predecessor Mara in She Ra: Princess of Power.
Anyway Lissandra does not only introduce 3 mana AOE fast speed for freljord (something that was missing!) she also gives the region more early game which was needed she is the cheapest freljord champion as of now (which is weird since she is a really strong witch), I think this transistion from legue is quite perfect they didn't leave much that lissandra doesn't do in game!
think entomb is kind of too slow, but who knows
she seems to work well with taliyah with all those land marks she creates..
hard to evaluate besides her base value which seems great 3 hp tough on turn 3 is basically immortal in terms of most removals early game.
The rotating core set can help veteran players save money. If you are given a set of free, useful cards every year, then you won't be as obliged to buy expansion cards. Will you still need to buy expansion cards to stay competitive? Absolutely. But the average player will now be able to get buy playing decent decks for fewer dollars.
The Classic mode doesn't seem like an apology mode to me, I don't even know what they are apologizing for. The classic set is so bad that I really don't think anyone will miss it. Some people may be upset since they paid for those cards and now they aren't in standard anymore, but I imagine that is a very small group of people. Most players probably collected classic cards via tavern brawls and maybe a few hundred gold pieces when they were new. And even if you did spend money on the classic set, you'd still be happy with it being replaced by actually playable cards. My guess is that they made the Classic mode simply as a way of giving these otherwise useless cards a place to be used.
I don't know what you mean by "the reality behind Activision's PR propaganda as they try to spin this in a more celebratory direction". To most people, this is a genuinely good thing that should be celebrated. And again, the "virtual" removal of 373 useless cards in favor of 240 good cards is not a bad thing. Nobody will miss their classic collection. And if they really do, then they can always play one of the several modes where those cards are still playable.
I don't think Warlock is currently OP, but I have come to dread these match-ups just as I did Priest because it typically means I'm going to face endless removal and healing until they can maybe pull off a win through value attrition (a la the Prime card, Envoy Rustwix, or Galakrond). I know Warlock has always had strengths in these areas, but for some reason I haven't dreaded the match-up until this expansion. Anyone else?
I think it's really the quantity of removal options that I find dispiriting as I see (2 copies of) these cards pretty much every match:
Add to this a string of Soul Fragments negating a lethal set-up and the specter of Tickatus milling your outs and you have levels of annoyance I traditionally associated with Priest. Again, it's not that I think current Warlock decks are too strong, but rather that I fear Team 5 has created another "fun and interactive" class identity. Have you had a similar experience this expansion?
I think it is fine that some of the quests want you to play a specific mode. You get 3 quests and 7 chances to re-roll them, which makes it very easy to avoid doing any quests you don't want. It is difficult to reward players for playing a specific mode without also forcing everyone to play that mode to optimize their rewards, but I think the devs did a good job. There are only 3 quests that want you to play a mode other than regular constructed out of 10 quests total. And with one of your 3 quests always being the same, you should be able to easily avoid having to play other modes.
I do agree though that the "win 5 games in ranked" quest is stupid. It makes sense having a quest that wants you to play ranked, and since you have all week I don't mind that you have to win, but it makes no sense whatsoever that this appears every week and can't be skipped. Again, it is fine that certain quests want you to play a specific mode. And as long as you can skip them it is no big deal. But this quest forces you not just to play ranked, but to win. Meaning that the average player will have to put 10 games a week playing a mode they may not like.
This looks like a very useful card: a burgle type effect that you have a bit more control over. In wild with cards like Spirit of the Shark it can do a lot. In standard, we'll need to wait and see how many bounce effects remain, and how good they are.
Pretty much, yup. While I on *some* level understand that people who like her characterization in LoL are a little upset with the shift in LoR voicewise (luxifying her voice), it's nothing to get bent out of shape over.
On top of that, the two images above look the same to me. If I was an artist hired on and was told "here's the left picture, we want you to make card art", I would have probably assumed that the characters face was in shadows in the left, and made her face look exactly the same as it is on the right. The face on the right looks like typical euro heritage character but in the sunlight, while the one on the left looks like she has shadows cast on most of her face.
This has NOTHING to do with LGBTQ-whatever or sexism at all. But the sad thing is, the mercurial, vindictive, and frankly caustic gaming culture gets up in arms at literally everything. It's frankly speaking, a little sad.
To respond to the article's question. Was Riot's response warranted? Sure, Riot wants to be known as the "inclusive gaming company" so they tend to rectify community outcry in all matters psuedo political. Was it necessary? Depends. The artist misconstruing the origin? Maybe, then again these are fictional characters with *technically* fictional lands of origin, no=one should be getting offended at any of it. Voice? Not at all. I mean, yea the "lux-style" voice tends to get a little annoying after awhile, and new characters voices should be more reminiscent than "that sounds like it could be Lux's cousin", but at the same time, it's nothing to write home about.
I am agree about voice acting, it's something different not original Taliyah. But i don t know why lgbt or who else angry about her, she looks fine, yes, eyebrows thin now, but maybe she just want new make up:D
Lissandra Champion Reveal and New Freljord Cards for Runeterra's Empires of the Ascended Expansion
Isn't Revitalizing Roar broken now with Watcher? It lets you basically skip the normal requirement for the Watcher to cost (0), and also heals for a lot. Lissandra + Trundle/Tryndamere maybe?
The Timmies Champion Lissandra
Previously I had said that Freijord needed an identity shake up and boy howdy is this it.
Finally, a reason to run a full on Freijord stall/control deck
If you have an 8 turn countdown to summon an 8/8 at 1 mana
You can't cheat that with ramp, it's gonna be all avalanches, ice quakes, harsh winds, and healing, plus countdown synergy.

This is great design.

I imagine the raptors will continue to grow over time. Otherwise they wouldn't say "Permanent +2/+1".
