Based on others' comments/predictions, here is what I hope will happen:
All Hall of Fame cards will return to their original sets, and will be once again be obtainable from their respective packs.
There will be a new 'core' set of cards which will include some (but not all) of the cards from Classic, as well as past expansions. 'Core' cards will be made available to all for deck building; even if you do not own a 'core' card, you will still be able to use it while it is in the 'core' set. Consequently, new players will no longer need to purchase Classic packs to get into Standard mode. Classic packs will still be purchasable but relegated alongside those of earlier sets.
Whizbang the Wonderful will be in the 'core' set FOREVER, so no worries if you have already dusted it.
I would say there's nothing really stopping you from just jumping back into the fold. Certainly there are new archetypes, but many of the older ones -- Draven + Jinx Discard Aggro, Fiora + Shen, MF Scouts, TF + Swain, Ashe Noxus, etc -- are still prevalent with only minor changes, and most of the other archetypes are still at least viable. In general the decklists from Endol's Gauntlet post are all fairly competitive; if you have specific archetypes and/or champs you like to play, I can provide some more targeted advice.
As for the K/DA cards: there still here, but their playrate has dropped precipitately. I think I've seen 1-2 Go Hard decks on ladder since the patch (disclaimer: I've been playing mostly Lab games lately).
Honestly, I think it’s pretty easy to dive back into the game. If you have many resources saved up, you’ll be able to craft a meta deck right away. If not, you’ll be able to do itafter a few weeks. In the meantime, your favorite deck from a few months ago will still be viable, especially at the point in the ladder that you (and I) are at. Unlike Hearthstone, I’ve found that in Runeterra a fun off-meta deck I’m comfortable with will work as well as a meta deck I don’t know yet.
Yes, that phrase can be said in good faith or bad faith. Given that this system IS a lot more rewarding for most of us, it’s easy to conclude that they're not trying to screw us over.
Those definitely sound like good changes if you're facing a lot of aggro. And, if you're just going to run one of them, Sense Demons might make more sense than Free Admission to improve the chances of Envoy Rustwix early or healing from Aranasi Broodmother.
Lorekeeper Polkelt might help us draw into the initial Primes a little faster, but if we manage to play/summon any additional Envoy Rustwix after playing him, our deck will get re-shuffled again as soon as more Primes go into the deck. Still, that could help put the pressure on the opponent to close out the game with the Primes, so perhaps replace a Questing Explorer with him instead of Valdris Felgorge or a Sense Demons? It's not as focused on greed, but it'd be a fun variation of the deck!
the problem with that is it makes the classic/basic set have to be centered around burgle cards and if there isn't a lot of support for these type of decks then the legendary would be useless. If there is a lot of support for it then that makes the whole classes identity just burgleing and would take away from other aspects such as combo and weapons.
That one was not about the portrait itself, but rather about the tech behind it. They have to modify the collection to allow players to craft the portrait, which could be difficult since the collection Manager was never made for crafting portraits. They have to find solutions to questions like:
Can you DE skins? And if yes, where do you put the DE button, because the flavor text and "set favorite" part already takes a large part of the UI. It also raises the question how you differentiate craftable and uncraftable Portraits in the collection and if it's okay to keep the current View with only 6 heroes at a time if you plan to add more skins even more frequently.
The problems are definetely not just tied to "how to implement an png".
I mean, they haven't figured out how to make more than 18 deck slots, so it is probably quite tricky for them.
;p
Why stop at 18 when you can just make it 255 slots? At some point, design needs to take precedence and say, "Hold the F up. We cant just keep incrementing a number. We gotta put some design into this bad boy and make it look and feel good."
I know it's a meme with the 18 slots but some people genuinely dont get it and really think they should just bump the number up.
I love Rustwix. Normally in the past I'm not a warlock player. (Zoo doesn't appeal to me, and the last control lock I played was handlock with molten giants, if that gives you any sort of frame of reference). But Rustwix has single handedly given appeal to playing warlock. The card enables a variety of strategies. Currently I feel like the best version is quest control.
I think versions that run Tickatus/Y'shaarj or other corrupt cards aren't horrible but just not as viable right now. (Deck has too little ways to corrupt Tickatus) and the soul shard package feels slightly inferior. Come rotation, with quest rotating out and Galakrond rotating out, without knowing what new cards will come the soul shard shell will most likely be the only viable way to play a control version.
As someone who stopped playing LoR around the time of the KDA event (right after it ended, the whole event and power level of the KDA cards left a sour taste in my mouth), does anyone have any insight on how one could get back into the game? My collection was pretty good prior to KDA, and even though go hard was nerfed, the flavor of the cards along with the gimmicks they enabled (and unlike brawls in Hearthstone, these are permanent additions to the game) just left me wanting more.
I do like most of the cards/flavor/animations/etc in LoR but I find myself playing Hearthstone solely it's comfortable. I should note that my hearthstone experience lends me to getting legend every season, where LoR I barely get above bronze or silver.
I really hope the pre-order heros do not become craftable. I would understand the other limited time heros becoming exclusive but even the bundle heros that were advertised as limited would feel bad to give away.
edit: Look, you would be pissed if you spent a ton on a product you were told wasn't going to be available again in the future just to find it available for cheap.
We need Zilliax back... Unity Precision Perfection going to wild was a big loss...
Good gosh no. If a card works well as a stand alone in just about any deck AND synergizes with some decks, it's powerful. He got tiresome to see in standard....leave him out.
This deck is more fun than the usual zoo. And I must say the Envoy did win me a game against a murloc paladin, I got the 10/10 warrior rush minion so I could finish his taunt from hand.
Kill the second immediately using the one big dude you have from the first phase.
Third phase is up to you. You can stall, but usually the boss puts out really big minions in this phase so you really can't do that too much. Just try and build up a good deal of board before you kill the panda.
And now the final phase. Because he has a ridiculous hero power you really got to either have a board or have mass rez by this point or you'll die. But if you got out of the third phase with at least a taunt, you're well on your way to victory.
