Ugh, I just lost a marathon match to this fucking Control Priest. He managed to get back like 10+ Wandmakers and Cobalt Spellkins from various discover cards and Raise Dead, which kept giving him Renew and [Hearthstone Card (Wave of Apath) Not Found]y that healed him up and negated whatever board damage I had. I was playing Soul DH so I had limited amount of damage, but I was still able to get him down to 3 health. Of course, he kept healing himself back up.

Good game from my opponent, but if I ever see him in person I'm gonna beat him until his legs don't work anymore. That loss started a 4-game losing streak for me when I was 2 stars away from legend, now I'm back at Diamond 3.

"Hey guys, i am an expert at this game, riot team are just a bunch of incompetent scrubs, here are my reason why and everyone who disagrees is also a scrub"

    Back to the topic:
1- Jagged Butcher isn't the best drop 1 in the game. Precious Pet is.
There is no 1 drop that can trade with Precious Pet on T1 alone. If we are taking 2 card combo into consideration, then the best T1 drop would be Zaunite Urchin + Jury-Rig, as this particular combo also generates 3 attack stats but without losing card advantage. So either way you are wrong.

2- Make it Rain is only situational good. The catch is that those "situations" happens quite often in the current meta. What makes this card particularly decent is its synergy with Kegs and holds a reliable Plunder effect. Best removal in the game is by far Ravenous Flock

3- Riptide Rex is not a finisher card. Is an AOE removal that SOMETIMES works also as a finisher. There isn't a single deck with a gameplan relying exclusively on Riptide Rex to close games.

4- Sejuani I see where you are going. I agree Sejuani has much better synergy with Bilgwater but so does Yasuo with Noxus and Maokai with Bilgwater and so on. I believe those champions were designed to be played on Bilgawater decks, but for Lore reasons they belong to other regions.

5- Petty Officer is the only one a fully agree. It just has too many stats overall with little risk, on top of situationally being able to generate a Keg.

And finally yes, this is indeed a QQ thread due to this part:
"but I just want to play the new set, and there's literally no reason to right now and that sucks"

I agree with everything that you said except for the Precious PetBADCARDNAME part, Solari Soldier can trade favorably with pet on turn one.

Counter-argument: I agree with Precious Pet being one of the best and Solari Soldier only beats it turn 1. However, if you don't attack with Precious Pet then Solari Soldier is a 2/2, and I think that most of the times the 3 damage on turn 1 vs 2 damage on turn 2 is better for the one using Precious Pet because it's most likely an aggro deck so damage matters more. Solari Soldier is kinda overrated imo. It's a bit worse than Jagged Butcher late game.

I think the best turn 1 swing play would be a nut hand with Spacey Sketcher into Jury-Rig into MoonlightBADCARDNAME into another Spacey Sketcher into another Jury-Rig then The Serpent. Though that's gonna lose you the game lol.

The players do not appear in the order I write them into the BBCode, and I've yet to understand the reasoning behind the automatic ordering.

If it was up to me, the players would be in alphabetical order, which means that BoarControl and Bozzzton would still be next to each other. It's clearly unavoidable.

  • Matching Algorithm

A while ago, Apple had to update their music because people were claiming that the "shuffle" option wasn't actually random. So Apple made an algorithm that would determine what song would play next to make it appear random. It technically wasn't random, but it felt more random than the actual random algorithm.

Coincidences do happen, and it is usually from random coincidences that people make conspiracy theories. But the fact of the matter is, unlikely things will happen. If I flip a coin ten million times, at some point I will probably land fifteen heads in a row. It isn't likely to get that many heads in a row, but after several million flips it is bound to happen.

If youre talking about it I presented in the perfectly appropriate manner otherwise it would be a dead post. Thanks for participating.  Also, the whole we all think you're right, Bilgewater needs a nerf is where we will end things, the rest is just noise.

  • Brawl Haul - Releasing the Elementals with Omnath, Locus of the Roil!

Whoa. You're not kidding about all the cards. I really like how I can find older and "un"-usual sets from paper or I can go the other way and get a proper view of that MTG Arena base set that is unique to digital. That last bit caught my attention because it's at best awkward to look them up everywhere else. Even the game client doesn't list the set out separately. I have to manually search with my best guess for a set code. I already didn't know these cards, and then I had to work to get a good look at them?! Thanks for solving that.

  • Matching Algorithm

    Quote From Hydrafrog

I ask this on both sides of the fence.  Whenever I play a common combo deck, I feel like I am constantly getting paired against aggro decks.  And when I switch to aggro, I get tossed a lot of control decks.  The same goes the other way though.  When I play something like Kingsbane Rogue, I end up playing against combo players and dog walk them.

Aren't you contradicting yourself already? You are basically saying aggro is preferentially put against both control and combo. You also make it clear Blizz isn't conspiring against you specifically, since it is happy to grant you easy wins with Kingsbane rogue. There simply is no algorithm that exists to both be kind and cruel, while arranging certain archetype match-ups at the same time as the complete opposite ones. To resolve those contradictions you'd need a time-varying algorithm, which

    1. is a heck of a lot of effort for no good reason on Blizzard's end, and
    2. will look statistically the same as no algorithm existing in the first place.

I'm pretty sure all that is really happening is rooted in human psychology, skewing your perception to find patterns that don't exist. The brain is a brilliant thing, but it is far from infallible.

  • Matching Algorithm

Well, you have this discussion with pretty much every card game. In Magic you could fill entire books with people suspecting rigged matchmaking (not that there has ever been the slightest shred of credible proof, on the contrary).

I just want to throw in two points:

    • Blizzard has no motive to implement such an algorithm or more generally to rig games against individual players; every unfavorable matchup for you is a favorable matchup for the other player; why should they favor one player and disfavor the other?; there is simply no motive here
    • Statistical analysis of matchmaking data would likely unveil a rigged matchmaker; the data is there, many people use deck trackers (just look over at HS replay); to this day however nothing emerged

  • Week 2 of the Forbidden Library - Book of Heroes Adventure Releases Today Alongside the Scholar Jaina Hero

TL;DR: I think not. I think that when a card pack is added to the "Open Packs" section, the content of the pack is already decided (regardless of whether you open it or not). One way you can possibly bypass this, is to finish the last wing of the adventure when the next big cycle starts and earn your pack at that time.

How I found out: I kept some Classic packs without opening them before the launch of the Year of the Raven, when Ice Block, Molten Giant and Coldlight Oracle were added to HoF. I did so, so that I won't get any extra copies of those cards and possibly get new ones that I haven't already possess. After the cards were HoFed, I open the Classic packs and found 2 copies of Coldlight Oracle and came to the above conclusion.

    Hah, too true.

I especially have this with slow decks, with which I absolutely despise mirror matches because they take forever. Whenever I'm like "hey maybe a slow warrior deck will work well in this meta" BAM instant Garrosh v Garrosh.

  • Why No Bilgewater Nerfs?

Bilgewater could use a slight adjustment or other regions could use a buff. Riot has announced changes to Taric and Petty officier, so let's see what happens in the next patch.

With Riots policy on buffing and nerfing I am not that worried about a stagnant period.

Thanks, BloodMefist!  I think I came up with something a little more along the lines of the Cursed! card mechanic, but a little stronger and more in line with the flavor of the character I'm trying to convey of the Hexed Librarian at Scholomance.

  • I'm quitting Hearthstone (again, but for real this time)

I feel about hearthstone like I do WoW. I quit for a a year even 2 then come back check it out, if it's really good I might stick around for a while, if it's not then I'll quit again in less than 2 months. I even have a favorite time of the year to return to HS (now).  A few months before most of the cards are about to rotate. Most of the cards will be gone by April so the game will literally shrink, and catch me up by doing so, if I'm still around, but I usually only get there if I'm into it.

Page 3-4 feedback for those who have not submitted:

    Show Spoiler

Demonxz95: It's a bit tricky because of all the reasons you listed for finding this a home in any one class.  My best bet would be Warlock.  Although Tekahn is a bit spooky, it would also be a deck that relies on drawing him while being only Warlock cards, limiting the applications to a late-game Lackey strategy that I don't think would be exceptionally overbearing.  That said, you could also lower the number of Lackeys generated to something like 3-5 to make it more manageable.

KANSAS: I prefer the first art and like the 4 mana statline more.  I feel like the 8 mana version comes online a bit too late for something like an improved hero power.  I stand by that it could do one of either HP upgrade or shuffle without the requirement and do the other with it, but I also think that it is good as is.

linkblade91: I really like Sargeras over the original Kil'jaeden, but think its a bit weak right now.  Restricting yourself to Warlock-only is already pretty rough and then there's the added difficulty of shoving in lots of demons, drawing/playing those demons after turn 10 at the earliest, and finding a time to safely play the card.  My initial suggestion would be to just make it all other minions instead of strictly demons since that would still be fairly in flavor and would feel more flexible to play, but you could also overhaul the effect if you're not feeling it.  Not as big of a fan with Shaohao.  I think it gets really weird to have Neutrals with the no-Neutral synergy since it makes deckbuilding really awkward.

Thonson: An alright idea to start, but I think its a bit too niche.  It starts with requiring you to have no Neutrals and then also requires your opponent to have minions on the board, preferably with low stats to proc the deathrattle.  This means that you are likely either behind or even on the board and play a card with no immediate impact and a slow effect that is difficult for you to make use of.  I think the effect should be simpler and faster.  I think the idea of giving Cursed! cards is fine and utilizes an effect that I think should be explored more.

  • Cheese's custom revamp of the HUNTER core sets!

    Show Spoiler
    Quote From Cheese

    As promised, I'm back.

    • I stand behind my nerf to Tundra Rhino and Charge cards in general. Not just because it's dangerous, but also because TR is one of those situtational cards that completely sucks most of the time, but will inevitably become part of a broken combo given time. This is the exact opposite of what the basic set should be. However, giving beasts Rush is an effect Hunter always benefits from, not as a combo effect but as a tempo one, hence the cost reduction. However it's true that it's still weak so I'll buff it again to a 2/6 in the next iteration of this set.
    • Savannah Highmane is definitely too powerful to be in the Classic set. Back in the day we joked that Hunter was the only class that can have 2x the same legendary in its deck because SH has legendary-tier power level. I could nerf it but I prefer Infested Wolf instead to avoid unnecessary nerfs.
    • Pressure Plate is also a defensive secret (and a spell counter). I disagree about Wandering Monster because it's too strong and random. Bear Trap could have been an alternative, unfortunately it's only triggered after the attack so it's not a defensive secret.
    • I will change the cost of Unleash the Hounds to 2 but not for this reason. Looking at french vanilla minions (= minions with only keywords in their text) you can see that Rush is actually worth MORE than Taunt in terms of Cost.
    • I think Terrorscale is better simply because Princess Huhuran is a legendary and her effect is too restrictive to be a Classic legendary.
    • It is true that I designed my core sets around expansion card but I should, because expansions give us an idea of what card/effect can become broken when the right cards are printed. I also designed this set around my (WIP) neutral core sets which contains a lot of good midrange beasts.

    Will modify it.

I just wanted to have a conversation about TR and highmane, the only two things I have problems with in your attempted revamp.

    - Tundra Rhino has a very strong and potentially* problematic effect, by giving beasts the keyword charge. There isn't any argument that charge is a problem effect, and has in the past proven to be extremely powerful. But if we look into hearthstone's past we discover that nearly every time its a problem, its usually in rogue. Little wonder there since rogue (until dhunters came along) was the only class that can easily get rid of taunts and does not suffer from card draw.

Now let's review the only other time I remember TR being a core card in hunterstone - the emergence of Master's Call. During that time, hunters can deal up to around 19 damage on 10, with double Timber Wolf, and a small set of Springpaws. A simple taunt will scupper that combo, and hunters never relied on that combo to begin with. TR is a one-off in that deck, and that's because like most hunter decks, early game tempo is the key. TR gives an out in control matches, but hunter's atrocious mid-late game makes it nearly impossible to ever take full advantage of TR, hence why its only a one-off.

Fact of the matter is that hunters have never been able to take full advantage of TR simply because the class's identity makes it impossible. Combo hunter has never really been a thing (though that has never stopped me from trying), and your proposed revamp does not change that. Currently in standard, there's every reason to believe that some kind of TR combo hunter can work ([Hearthstone Card (scarlett webweaver) Not Found], Ramkahen Wildtamer, etc.), and still its just not happening.

So how can we 'fix' this card, if at all. Your changes, while admirable, only makes it a worst off (and I do mean really badly compared to) Houndmaster Shaw. If we are getting rid of charge, then TR should cost somewhere around 3 mana, maybe as a 2/4. There's just no imaginable use for TR that only gives beast rush, whilst also costing too much and being poorly stated at that.

    ---

    - Highmane has not been a core card for a long time, if ever. We have to turn the clock to hearthstone's beginning to even contemplate this statement. The common wisdom you cited is different from what I remember. It used to be said that if highmane ever hit your face once, then you just lost the game. That still checks out. But there's a reason why its said that way - because highmane can almost never survive to hit face in the first place. There's a whole list of stuff from hunter I can remember being broken back then (unleash the hounds, undertaker, 1 mana flare, 2 mana starving buzzard), hell even houndmaster had its time under the sun, but highmane has never stuck to my memory of ever being one of them.

I like your addition of infested wolf, but in this case I will still vote for highmane to stay in standard, if only because its interesting deck building with your addition of abominable bowman.

Your 'clue of what you're talking about' is parroting swim and his tier list without thinking for yourself for even a second.
