  • [Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

Stand strong men, for I am here!

I will turn the tide and win the fight!

They cower before my mere presence

and none dare to accept my challenge!

But if things go south... can I get outta here?

  • Pure Of Heart - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

Figured I'd try and get a little feedback before submitting this time, instead of just posting as soon as I get an idea.

I was thinking of doing a minion that added Cursed! to your opponent's hand if you had no neutral cards, but I decided to go with a slightly different but similar effect in giving enemy minions a deathrattle that damages the enemy hero.

For balance, I feel like 8 total stats for 4 mana is fair, and while Zealot might be a little understated since it is basically the weapon with a free body, Crusader is 7 mana 7/7, so about avg for the cost, but with a strong conditional effect of generating 5 cards.  So I went similar with this one.  4 mana, for a total of 8 stats (3/5 body) and a decent conditional effect.

I wanted to do deathrattle on one minion and then when it dies give it to a neighbor, so the "curse" keeps spreading until their side of the board is clear or the minion with the deathrattle is silenced, but it's too much text so I went with giving two enemy minions the deathrattle a single time.

The effect isn't the strongest so the gem is just Rare, and I was thinking if it's not strong enough maybe I could make it give the deathrattle to three enemy minions and/or give this guy Taunt to encourage trading to trigger the deathrattles he gives.  Could also just increase damage from the deathrattle to be 3 if needed.  But Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

  • Runeterra Hotfix - Casting More Than 15 of the Same Spell in a Round Removed From the Game

On the downside it means that Cloud Drinker probably won't see play anymore.

Agreed, but I think that's more about Cloud Drinker being an incredibly weak card outside of very niche applications. Honestly, he could use a nerf-reversion back to being Enlightened: Reduce by 2 -- it made sense at the time, but with all these new Sol and Trundle control decks Karma could now use a little help.

I didn't even know it was nerfed - guess it was in the early beta? You are right though. 6 mana for at niche effect isunplayable unless the payoff is broken.

  • I'm quitting Hearthstone (again, but for real this time)

Hearthstone is obviously getting pale due to lacks of new mode. I can picture someone getting brain burned like I did, playing constructed over and over with nothing much changed over the course of 4 months.
EDIT. Did they really think that a new expansion hype will last for the entire 4 months period? Because I don't. 2 months and it's getting boring already.

I haven't got the slightest idea why the Blizzard won't make a simple mode where players can make their custom plays and rules (skirmish mode maybe?), and in doing so, prevent a burned out feels of playing the same mode over and over again. (or any other modes except BG which is not everyones playstyle).

And yes I did it with multiple deck, but unfortunately, I feel the same way as you did. The only thing prevent me from quitting the game is that I invested a lot of time to get to where I am right now, and to avoid losing it all, I just do daily quest every 1 or 2 days and play another game. If I can gather 100-120 golds /day in the past, It's only 60-70 golds /day, and it's already a miracle to get to 80 golds.

  • Why No Bilgewater Nerfs?

I feel like this post could have been written in a better way to make you not look like someone who was tilted from like 2 games against bilgewater.

  • Matching Algorithm

    There's already an age-long discussion on this the last time I saw something like this pop up;

    https://outof.cards/forums/hearthstone/class-discussion/hearthstone-general/2311-suspicious-matchmaking?page=1

Bottom line is that there's no conclusive proof, or even any motive for blizz to start screwing people with matchmaking.

Its easy to put one and one together after a few matches and conclude you're being screwed, but unless you've got some major stats to show then its all speculation, and a poor one at that.

  • Matching Algorithm

This is not a salt thread.... This is an honest inquiry on things that I am starting to feel the conspiracy theory about with the matching system.  Does anyone know if the matching algorithm for games looks for specific cards and matches you up against people that have opposing styles of cards?

I ask this on both sides of the fence.  Whenever I play a common combo deck, I feel like I am constantly getting paired against aggro decks.  And when I switch to aggro, I get tossed a lot of control decks.  The same goes the other way though.  When I play something like Kingsbane Rogue, I end up playing against combo players and dog walk them.

If there is such an algorithm, is it Blizzards way of saying, get better to beat the style of deck that kills yours... or is it a subtle jab to your kidneys?

By the way ramp aka the only targon list is actually really bad from a win rate perspective so you are basically saying hey this one targon list is almost playable at high level

Having above 50% win rate is bad? I really hope that you were being sarcastic there buddy. Besides that not the only new deck that's from the expansion that's doing well Shen/Lulu, Trundle/Tryndamere, Leona/Lux are also competitive decks.

I think the deckbuilding ones could be more fun if they loosened them up a bit. Only being able to use three cards, for instance - of course a meta is going to form very quickly for that, because there are less decisions to make. But what if you could only make decks with Horde or Alliance characters (and all of those were available for the Brawl)? That way, not only are there more deckbuilding decisions to make, but you also get the fun of seeing how your lore-good decks would work in a Hearthstone setting. Bringing lore into it can make even terrible losses fun or funny, and providing cards makes it more enticing.

  • Why No Bilgewater Nerfs?

    @Nifty129

I think everyone agrees with you that Bilgewater makes up more of the meta than it should and that there is a wide variety of viable Targon decks, but the way you’re presenting your points makes everyone downvote you. Also, there will be another balance patch in two weeks in which Riot said that they’ll address at least one Bilgewater card (Petty Officer) and buff a lot of underplayed Targon cards (the gem cards and Rumuul). The changes just didn’t happen in this patch because patches take so long to test and localize to all the different languages that they based the nerfs and buffs on only around the first week of the expansion, at which point it wasn’t super clear that Bilgewater would be dominant. In the next patch they will definitely nerf Bilgewater and buff Targon because they now have the data to definitively say that Bilgewater is overtuned.
P.S. Sejuani has seen play in so many decks (Endure, Braum/Sejuani, Ashe Sejuani, etc) that shecan’t really be said to be a Bilgewater card. If you’re trying to level her up then Bilgewater is the best, but she’s so baseline powerful that she ends up in a lot of decks

  • The Lore of Zendikar - Learn More About The Mana-Rich Plane

Honestly given the Lithoform blight stuff, we might get a colorless version first. That being said if they don't continue the Omnath trend, and make him more colors, I'd be pretty upset, especially since WotC knows that people hate that type of stuff.

The main issue with the Book of Heroes is that the story is too condensed to be intelligible by someone who desn't know Warcraft lore. You don't sum up 15 years of WoW like this.

I think it is a slight misunderstanding of the BoH's purpose to think it is meant to tell anything close to the whole story. We have Wikis for that, and they take quite a while to get through and even longer to read enough pages to actually understand Jaina's.

I know this first hand, because I only got into Warcraft lore through HS, and I don't think I learned much about Sylvanas Windrunner (my first legendary) when I first read her story other than that she died, was made a banshee and at some point reclaimed her old body. It took ages to piece together all the surrounding information required to understand her story, largely because I was unfamiliar with all the names and characteristics of people, places and races involved, and you can only take in so much information at a time. However, if I had a super condensed BoH-esque version of events beforehand, I could have read Sylvanas' Wiki and gone "Oh yeah, I know that guy from HS" and would have been better able to follow her story without getting lost in a sea of unfamiliar names.

Hence I view the BoH as a convenient, in-game primer for anyone who wants to learn more, rather than a serious attempt to get everyone completely up to speed with Warcraft lore. I guess it is somewhat analogous to the introductory slides of a presentation: they don't tell you a huge amount on their own, but they help you follow the bulk of the presentation when you get there.

Of course a card game is always going to be a pretty terrible way to tell a story, so the BoH is always going to have its limitations. But it is still a positive addition, especially at a time when WoW players are complaining too much of the Warcraft story is being told outside of the game.

No it is stagnant, our meta is the same pre expansion as it was post expansion. You can run stuff that wins less often if you want to, but the majority won't. How much targon do you see now? How much Taric, how much of any champion that isnt Sol?

I don’t mind this brawl... until I get someone dropping something like a turn 1 Tyrantus.  Then I’m out!

  • Glop's Taric + Lee Sin OTK

I don't see what the point of Spacey Sketcher is in this deck.  You can't afford to discard anything else, and if you don't get any gems in hand early, you can't really use them effectively.

I get the point, discard gems to gain powerful celestials, but I often find that Mentor/Gem Keepers seem to come way too late.

When's the last time any of you saw a Mogwai stream talking about the meta, or a meta update by Swim, thats because the meta is dominated by Bilgewater and until adjustments are made there is nothing to talk about. I'm all for liking the region, but do you guys seriously want the game to stagnate forever?

The things is the meta is not stagnate, during the last days of rising tides control/tempo decks were the most popular but because of Trundle/Aurelion Sol there has been a resurgence of aggro decks.

  • High Legend Libroom Paladin In-Depth Guide

Funki, congrats on the shout out in today's VS report!

EDIT: Oh, and great guide as usual.

  • Sigh! Another garbage solo adventure...

Point is it shouldn't have been about the story in the first place. Who comes to HS for lore? It has none. It tried to have some last year with the whole league of evil thing. Didn't impact the experience at all, there was just a lot more unskippable dialogue in between the games. What was the takeaway from all that over the grand total of over 3 expansions? Lazul is dead, oh no, my feelings, I cared so much about her. Rafaam destroyed the Alliance and the Horde and then retired, what massive ramifications for the HS universe, can't wait to see how this changes the landscape...oh wait we're going to some random school now, k.

If they can't tell their own original well, then telling the story of another game in the same environment isn't gonna go over any better. Besides, HS is a really poor delivery mechanism for story. Everything is done through "out-of-game" dialogue, as in, dialogue that actively disrupts the gameplay. And then the story you get is: Arthas vs Jaina with the plot motivation of "we'll settle this by sparring". Oh boy...and here I was thinking that Demon Hunter story was contrived.

Blizz has been pretty adamantly focused on "gameplay first", often to an infuriating extent where they'd rather butcher the story, atmosphere and logic to force a gameplay mechanic into the thing, but in this case, I think I'd prefer good gameplay with no or minimal narrative over uninteresting gameplay with the added benefit of forced uninteresting narrative. Does anybody feel more emotionally connected to Jaina after this? Does anyone feel ANYTHING after this? Except maybe disappointed, bored, or happy they finally got through that to open the damn pack? And really, if your story can't incite emotion from your audience, why even bother?

The grit of MTG's style has never been a big selling point for me but these Alt arts look absolutely sick. They all look a lot more colorful and fantastical which is great.

Hearthstone could learn from these in my opinion, I love HS' art style and characters, but backgrounds are rarely in emphasis in any of the cards. Un'goro's quests were pretty good but I'd love some more sick settings.
