  • Alternate heroes as of 2022, by class, by release

If I may be so bold to suggest an improvement: Could you add a little number to each character so we can see how many portraits they got? Like 28 Nemsys, 1 King Rastakhan, ... and then add a sum at the top of the chart, next to the class icon with the total number of portraits for each class. That would complete the picture for me :)

    Sure.

This looks considerably more jank because I made it in Paint.net (I made the first one in a sandbox using assets from the Hearthstone wiki). If I do this again next year, I'll put the base heroes on the original list.

If you want a visual list of every single portrait in this style, this page on the wiki has one, albeit not as cleanly arranged.

  • Why rotation in LOR Is Stupid

So they printed two new self dmg cards in the most recent expansion.

Here to help, and blood Pigeon.

Both are very strong in Vlad

But guess who's number one on the rotation chopping block?

Thats right the self dmg champion

Forget about rotation Riot you'll ruin your amazing game.

Oh and this deck is actually pretty good now BTW.

Is it a meme yes, but it's a strong meme and isn't that what card games are all about?

  • Is Marvel Snap Kind Of A Bad Game?

    Quote From sto650
    Quote From Crusader2010

People having no idea how to properly play it doesn't make it a bad game.

Despite what some people might think, it's actually not a difficult game to play at all. The biggest problem is that most decks have a lot of flex spots in them. Even if you know your opponent's main game plan, you have no idea at all what tech cards they are running, or if they even drew them.

And most crucially of all - even if you correctly guess what your opponent can do to counter you, 9 times out of 10, you STILL CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT except quit the game and start another. I'm holding my Ultron and I guess my opponent has Leech. What can I do? Well, unless I have Cosmo AND I win my guess about which lane he will play Leech on AND I have priority on the flip, then I can do literally nothing about his Leech. And I auto-lose that game. And there are hundreds of other scenarios just like that one. Playing Sera and opponent has Wave? You lose. Playing Odin and opponent has Cosmo? Sucks to be you. Playing Deathwave and opponent has Armor or Cosmo or even Shang-chi - yep, you're screwed. Knowing what your opponent can do to stop you is nearly always useless knowledge, because there is nothing you can do to stop them (except in very niche situations, and most of those require luck to actually work).

At the end of the day, that's exactly what I would call a bad game.

I have to agree with this - I tried it with an open mind and for the first week, was so happy with it and barely touched Hearthstone. I thought it was going to be my new card game. But after a week and getting into pool 3 I became very disillusioned and stopped enjoying this kind of gameplay. Ended up quitting and deleting the game permanently about a month ago and don't have any desire to go back. I even bought the welcome bundle in Snap to have slightly better progression, but it really didn't fix the core gameplay issues that didn't let you feel like decisions matter that much. Sure there's snap/bluffing but as you said here that alone doesn't make for a good game when the gameplay for each individual game is so luck based, or random guessing.

In Marvel Snap, it's like rock paper scissors with prior knowledge. You have to know on the spot what you're opponent is playing based on the given information throughout the game.

I respectfully disagree that a game is good if it just boils down to Rock, Paper, Scissors. And you are correct that Snap does exactly that.

If I'm playing a turn-6 deck with important text, Leech really does just auto-win against me. If I'm playing a destroy deck and you have priority for the flip, I'm gonna lose when you drop Armor or Cosmo on my destroy location.

Having situations where one player instantly wins over the other before the end of the game is actively bad, not good.

  • Is Marvel Snap Kind Of A Bad Game?

No it's not a bad game. People having no idea how to properly play it doesn't make it a bad game. Of course you cannot counter each and every deck, but that's not the point. Play what you like - the paychology is much greater than in any other card game.

If i could count the number of games in which the opponent snapped on turns 1-2 then proceeded to concede... i'd be rich

  • Signpost Is The Best New Card Printed In LOR

I waxed poetic quite a bit before about how wild mysticism is the single best Freijord card since lisandra and three sisters.

Single handedly elevating the region to the likes of druid from hearthstone which was always the intention (midrange freij still saj)

But another card came out that no seems to be talking about and boy is it a doozy.

Back in the day of shurimas release people used to talk about the uber deny, and how toxic it was deleting a chain of spells for a mana crystal.

But nobody is saying anything about the cycle deny in bandlecity. You see the thing about deny is that its kind of a "bad card" ie. It's verrrry high value the turn you play it and kinda gets worse with subsequent uses.

So having deny simultaneously thin your deck and get you to your wincon is insane.

It's good too because the region needed another pillar card like pokey stick so they got pokey deny and it makes bandle city a valid control region consideration once again.

Good job Riot I'l admit I thought Darkin saga pt 2 was kind of a mess and I criticized Part 3 for being low impact but you really take a closer look there are some game changers.

  • Is Marvel Snap Kind Of A Bad Game?

Fuk u dude your opinion sucks.

Just kidding lol. There's actually a lot more to expect when you start to dip at pool 3. The game is still at its infancy stages when it comes to deck building. It took people this long to realize that Leech is actually a pretty good card to counter against a sera deck or death wave. There are definitely counterplays in the game, it's just used much differently than LOR.

In LOR or magic, counterplays are like a debate. People exchange answers until one exhausts the other.

In Marvel Snap, it's like rock paper scissors with prior knowledge. You have to know on the spot what you're opponent is playing based on the given information throughout the game.

But at the and of the day, it's all based on preference really. I personally dislike LOR because it's so goddamn exhausting to play. Every game is too long and takes too much thinking for my small brain, I just want a quick dopamine hit but also still strategize at least a little bit.

  • Is Marvel Snap Kind Of A Bad Game?

So like many of you I swap cards games now and then.

    Hearthstone -> gwent -> shadowverse ->mtg arena -> lor -> snap

Early impressions were good in pool 1 and 2.

I got to vibranium with an equal card pool and equal footing with opponents.

Just maximizing the gambling mechanic by knowing exactly every card the opponent could have because they had the same cards as me.

Then I got to pool 3 and the game changed. Instantly it just became about mashing as much math into the opponents face in the 6 turns alloted and nothing else mattered.

So very quickly I started to miss things like instant speed interactions, fast speed interactions, removal, board cleares, like actual "counter play" beyond location locking, movement and killmonger/chang chi which are the exception not the rule.

So for the first time ever I'm regressing back a game, I'm back maining LOR because I disagree with Mogwai I think Snap kinda sucks.

When Ben Brode took out everything in card games that was "anti fun" he also took everything out of card games that was "pro smart" and that kinda sucks.

So yeah Snap you have a lot of growing up to do in my mind to match the perfection of LOR

Just my 5 cents feel free to fight me in the comments.

  • Alternate heroes as of 2022, by class, by release

With 2022 coming to a close, I wanted to compile a nice presentation for every alternate hero skin. Alternate heroes are something I'm strangely passionate about, despite how inundated we are with them now and the fact that I don't even play Hearthstone anymore.

This is a visual list of every alternate hero skin organized by release order, as well as the year they were released. To qualify, the hero has to be a different character than the base hero, and only one character per portrait is counted. That's also including the two that are in the game but not currently obtainable.

EDIT: Apparently Whitemane and Mal'ganis are currently purchasable. My bad. Like I said, I'm not playing the game.

Regarding the third party cookies, I understand how they work even though I do not agree with them whatsoever. It is quite unfortunate how most of the internet is driven by them nowadays.

Anyways, everything seems to be back to normal again now which makes me happy, so kudos! 👍

    Glad to hear it!

And yeah, third party cookies suck and are an unfortunate necessity on the modern web.

-open email, verified and tried loggin again
-was prompted with an other verification (2nd email)
-opened email, re-verified and then tried loggin in again

    -verified account, then successfully loggin
-left the web page, came back a bit later, still needed to loggin upon return, then again later, but from a different computer

    Hope this helps

There should have only been one initial sign-out.

Curious about re-re-re-verifications though. I haven't been able to replicate that with the first verification working without issue. I do know after verification you'll need to sign-in again though. If there are any sign-outs after you've been verified, that's definitely not intentional!

Out of curiosity, did anyone take a "while" to go click on their verification link?

I was under the impression that I was getting it done too fast, as the 3 verifications emails I received were all within the same 2 minutes.
And upon login later on from home, I was prompted to sign-in, and again this morning, returning to work, had to do it again; not a huge deal, but not like usual either.

I've figured out the issue with the signouts and that should now be resolved. It'll require everyone to login again but functionality should be restored to what it originally was once that happens. Behind the scenes we used to do a "remember me" with our session cookies, this wasn't the case after the deploy yesterday so now we're back to remembering everyone again as a default.

Did you, on the verification page, load the page once and receive three different emails? If you can remember, if you can walk me through your login and verification process that'd be great.

Not sure what is going on since yesterday, but here are some of my initial observations:

    1. This site is using a lot of cookies, while I am typing this apparently 111 cookies taking up 44MB
    2. Cookies seem to be "cleared" and recreated with every page visit
    3. Every time I close my Google Chrome browser app (Android), reopening the app afterwards I have to sign in again on this site

I did not change any browser settings on my side since yesterday.

Are you now using a different type of cookies with very short expiry perhaps?

The vast majority of the cookies that are set are from ad networks. It wouldn't surprise me if they change often or get wiped out when they no longer matter. That's not something that I have any control over, nor should that be causing issues. Out of Cards itself only uses a handful of cookies, which are used for site preferences and some cache stuff.

It does appear that our account session cookie though was incorrectly set to "Session", which means your browser would forget it when it is closed. A deploy is currently going out to revert that unintentional change.

    Quote From NebuchadnezzarHS

Just tried with a different smartphone and same signout issue experienced. Now I am 100% sure that the cause is serverside. Any clues so far or perhaps close to a potential fix, Fluxflashor

Side question, why use so many cookies? I cannot imagine which useful purpose they might serve? Most of them are probably coming from the ads. Actually, I am pretty sure about this as well because performing the same login test in incognito mode shows a very different amount of cookies in use.

Advertisers use cookies to try and deliver more tailored ads towards you.

Google's AdSense page has a bit more info on this if you're interested! https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/7549925?hl=en

While that page isn't going to be the full answer, because Google's ad network is only one piece of the puzzle with who gets to serve ads on the site, everyone else is doing the same stuff.

For me it worked ok. But i managed to circumvent the cloudflare check, and logged in through the dolphin browser on android (validated the email on firefox), which was impossible before (due to the infinite checking loop).

The cloudflare check is currently disabled which is why you were able to get through.

I still don't know what causes the issue, but there are other people online who have it. Typically from what I've seen it's out of date browsers or browsers that are very niche that can't reliably get by the challenge. That and potentially combined by a geolocation could cause Cloudflare to think you're not human.

I disabled it though due to some improvements we have to protect against bot users. Not going to talk about them for obvious reasons, but if it ends up working out, that'd be a plus for the few folks who were having problems.
