  • Blizzard's Dean Ayala Talks About No Plans for Wild Nerfs & Asks the Community About Rotating Formats

    Quote From Meteorite12

Eh, you still find Control decks here and there from 10-5 in wild, I met a good few of them when I was climbing earlier this month. A lot of the meta is aggro and combo, but it’s not that unusual really to meet some off meta deck high up in the ranks.

If anything though, when I was climbing there were less secret mages than last month, made mulligans a bit awkward since it’s a bit more of a toss up on whether it’s secret mage or quest mage (whether combo or control)

Cant say I can confirm it, since I've only touch upon rank 15 in wild at best. Its not the most fun to be destroyed in seconds when all you're trying to do is to have fun. And this may be a personal opinion, but I find wild players to be more trigger-happy with bms.

I honestly think team5 should just straight up admit that balancing wild is easier said than done, since its a vast amount of cards and complexity.

    [...]

Please, tell me how Crystology, Ancient Mysteries, or Plague of Flames (just to name a few) are hard to balance. Please tell me how releasing those cards with a fair mana cost (1-2 higher) would be hard to implement.

Let's be honest: it's just that they don't care about releasing flawed cards, as long as they are in check in Standard.

Those cards you cited are very situational, and while they do produce an amazing effect, it cannot be jammed into just about any deck.

Its not just nerfing strong cards, its about making sure that the balance of the classes are within acceptable ranges. Its a hard task, admitably, hence why the results of nerfs aren't always what it should be.

Nerfing those cards as you cited, will pull down an already down class in standard.

I would like to play the year of the mammoth standalone constructed.

  • Blizzard Confirms Hearthstone's 2020 Plans will be Detailed in the Middle of March, Updates on 16.4 Bugs

At this point I'M just preparing for some sort of disappointment.

  • Here be dragons

Deathwing brings Beasts back. Rat pack is pretty much insane. You get a free Pack Leader and unless your opponent also runs tokens you never get punished

  • Saving up for expansions

I'm not looking to complete the new sets in a hurry.

That said, I'm currently floating ~70 common and ~50 rare wildcards. I use them occasionally when building a new deck, but I mostly play expeditions, so the wildcards keep piling up. That means I'll probably easily fill out the common and rare slots for 1 or 2 new decks once the expansion hits.

By that time, I might consider spending some cash on wildcards so I can get those champions and epics faster.

People get mad when they try to balance wild, and then other people get mad when they don’t try.

Never heard of people complaining (with half-decent arguments) about Wild nerfs.

  • Your region progress

Freljord at 17, the rest somewhere between 8 and 12.

The goal is that Wild is the place you can go to enjoy decks you love the most for as long as you want.

    This is false in practice.

You cannot ENJOY decks that are brutally overrun by meta tyrants.

AND meta tyrants in Wild are often made possible thanks to NEW flawed cards that are harmless in Standard, but broken in Wild.

It's not about a shifting meta. Wild players never asked for that (and the meta does actually shift btw). It's about viability of cards and decks, made poor by a limited pool of flawed cards, ie cards that need synergy to be valuable, but that synergy is so easily provided in Wild, that their mana cost is unbearably low (eg. Crystology, Arcane Flakmage, Plague of Flames, etc).

If those cards weren't flawed to begin with, Wild would be a much better place, with no need of continuously "keeping an eye on it".

  • Here be dragons

Yes, Dragons are everywere (at least on Battlegrounds Mode) - most of my games 5-6 people at least go for Dragons! But i guess this is because they are new.

Sure you can win with Dragons, but right now it is easier with Murlocs/Demons or Beasts because most of the players pick Dragons right now :)

Ysera , Deathwing and Galakrond are the new Heroes i haven't had the opportunity yet to play them - the others seem pretty decent. So far i like it but i guess some of these Dragons will see some sort of Nerf in the Future.

You are doing an amazing job with HS

    LUL ?

all we want is to stop printing that one card which wins the game and nothing else matters, and anyone who draw it first wins. that will help HS to be more enjoyable game.

  • Let's talk about Hecarim

Nerf Rekindler into just a play effect or make it a 8 mana card. It's beyond stupid to see someone get three hecarims. Shadow riders need to be 2/1. Overwhelm needs to be removed.  Either all of those or he needs to be an 8 or 9 mana card.

  • no Champion in lvl 10 Vault?

    Quote From OldManSanns

Yeah, I think its something like 1% chance per capsule (i.e., ~9% for max vault)

Wow ok tgat one time i hot 2 was just extremky lucky?

I can say im lucky enough some times so such things happen to me (hearthstone 92 pacjs 12 legendaries) but that chance took ne by surprise

  • Blizzard's Dean Ayala Talks About No Plans for Wild Nerfs & Asks the Community About Rotating Formats

Part of it I’d imagine is because the first set of the year is their chance to try to make a new archetype that can be expanded on later (since it’ll have the most time in standard, and they don’t print that many synergy cards for decks that have rotated out).

The other part I think is that Wild’s probably gonna get some new people in it with the rotation, a bunch of people that want to play decks that have rotated out and all, so the meta might shift because of that

  • Here be dragons

@Pezman - Yup, Razorgore can pop off in a big way. For Deathwing shenanigans, Sottle has been posting a few tweets of what Deathwing has been doing for him - he posted one screenshot of getting (iirc) top 4 with just a Murloc Tidecaller and a Rat Pack on his board. Then posted another which didn't use Rat Pack just to show he could.

@PopeNeia - I don't think I'd put Reno in tier 1 simply because of his atrocious early game. He has to make it through to find the aforementioned minions and then find the relevant stuff to synergise with it before he really does anything - and given how fast games are ending right now that's far from guaranteed. Ysera I'd consider giving Tier 1 to, but she has a similar late game issue (though she has more reliability in the early and midgame at least).

@Skorpionex - It's a valid point, but whether that's reliable or not is another question. I find Annoy-o-Module in particular to be irritatingly rare.

  • Blizzard's Dean Ayala Talks About No Plans for Wild Nerfs & Asks the Community About Rotating Formats

People agree with you, and Dean acknowledged it when he said Wild isn't the ideal format for using a lot of old cards and then asked for thoughts on rotating formats.

Deep down I think that has to be right: we don't actually want to change what Wild is, we want another format that allows many of the mid-power Wild cards to see play. Trying to do both in the same place (i.e. 'balance' Wild) is just going to disappoint both camps.

  • Anyone else having wildly different luck night-to-night?

Is that luck, or is it something else? Plenty of external factors could affect that (not least your own drive, alertness, tilt factor etc.).

I find my luck to be fairly consistent in LoR with occasional spikes of excellence, but I'd imagine that'll change when I start actually trying to grind ranked...

  • Let's talk about Hecarim

Dropping his health would, in my opinion, be massively impactful and likely disproportionate. Even going down to five health would be huge, because Hecarim needs to be on the offensive and anything that limits his ability to simply attack every turn is going to be swingy. Attack reductions would be less damaging. Honestly, Overwhelm is the part of the card that could most easily go without damaging the Hecarim vision or breaking the playstyle. I don't honestly know why they gave him Overwhelm at all; you're already wanting to chump-block the 3/2 spawns, so it's unlikely you'd have more chaff to block the pony with as well.

The above is predicated on the assumption that you actually think he needs a nerf, of course, which I absolutely do not. I think over the course of the past month roughly a third of the champions in the bloody game have had someone on here wanting nerfs to them.

That said - Rekindler does need a nerf, and has needed a nerf for a long time. When I first saw that card I was utterly flabbergasted that it even got printed - the level of value represented is just absurd. It's not even locked into a 'Play' effect, so you can resummon the damn thing to repeat the effect. It.. It should not be...

  • Saving up for expansions

If I may add my take - I'd estimate that you'd only need 75% of that to pick up the cards you'll actually play with. It'll be top-heavy because you'll probably want all the champions, but realistically there's going to be cards that you won't want to use in any given region, either because they never make it into a deck worth playing or just because they don't fit the kinds of archetypes you like to play. And that's assuming that LoR -doesn't- have the kind of filler that HS tends to see.

  • Blizzard's Dean Ayala Talks About No Plans for Wild Nerfs & Asks the Community About Rotating Formats

oh wow, i thought this was gonna be a good year for hearthstone. Frodan should have said that it's only for standard players lol
