I'm liking the idea of the synergy with this and Spirit of the Frog. I think that this along with Hoard Pillager and [Hearthstone Card (Rummaging Kobold) Not Found] would be something fun to play. I don't necessarily see it being really competitive right now, but more so along the lines of fun.
I'm starting to think more and more that the only viable way to get 3 champions of a kind is to buy champion wildcards with real world cash, which is kinda a bummer.
Crafting a Champion with shards is perfectly viable. You get a lot of extra random value by doing an Expedition, and that's balanced against the phenomenal value of creating exactly the Champion you need. Both options are good; it just depends on your needs at the moment, your long-term goals, and your level of patience.
This is actually not true. There are several ways to get duplicate Champions on the board at the same time.
So you're only forbidden from playing duplicates from your hand (as they turn into signature spells), but you can create copies of ones that are already on the field?
The thing about a digital card game is that regardless of what the card says, it can be programmed to do whatever the programmer wants.
I agree with this. However, this doesn't absolve the developer from having to make sure the text on the cards is accurate - otherwise, things gets unintuitive and confusing, which will inevitably alienate players.
Anyway, we've basically worked out 3 scenarios in this thread:
the current interaction in the game, which favors Overwhelm
the interaction proposed by FortyDust, which favors Divine Shield
the interaction I endorse, which is somewhere in the middle.
I'm curious to see whether Riot addresses the issue in the future, whether for clarity's sake or for balancing reasons.
Tyrone wouldn't be nearly as powerful relative to other heroes if there were minions that could buff neutrals (besides Defender of Argus). Right now neutrals are essentially balanced around the fact that they fall off hard toward late game and Tyrion is the one exception to that rule. (And Edwin, and Daryl and...) Most heroes cannot scale a tribeless minion, so outside of key enablers like Brann, Lightfang, Baron, Soul Juggler, etc. they don't see much play.
If everyone can buff their neutrals then it's no longer as powerful of an ability: other players have access to it and now they're also competing for your picks. That said it probably should cost 2 gold because it's a board-wide buff that's incredibly easy to set up. Like I said, the tribeless minions are overpowered relative to their level to compensate for the downside of lacking a tribe, but with Tyrion that's a feature, not a bug.
Haven't played HSBG in quite some time, but looking at it purely from a design perspective:
Tirion is definitely overtuned in a vacuum. Sure, he's fixed as requiring primarily minions with no type, but equally, that's not all that big of a problem when the reward is 1 gold for a global +1/+1. Amalgams are gone, Murlocs have been nerfed, so you've got a lot less in the way of Poisonous to deal with the problem of persistent stat inflation. However, that's wholly fixable in theory with some basic numbers manipulation.
The problem outside that vacuum is that Tirion's design doesn't mesh with the rest of the current Hero offering, making balancing solely by numbers impossible. What I mean is that Tirion not only has access to an entire tribe of his own (if you want to define 'tribeless' as a tribe), but he also has access to other tribes too - both Demons and Beasts have typeless force-multipliers which are balanced solely by their own vulnerability. He effectively gets to pick and choose from several different Tribes, with one as a fallback that no other hero in the game will try to collect if the other game-plans aren't looking optimal.
That's a problem you can't fix with numbers outside of just nerfing him out of viability altogether. The only real solution is to introduce more heroes that are going to compete for the same resources, or more powerful cards for the Tribes (which is a whole other problem altogether).
I would add that this is a problem you're inevitably going to run into when designing for a game as simplistic as HSBG. They really didn't leave themselves much room to work with, and outside of major additions - like more tribes - you're very quickly going to run out of interesting things to do that don't cause some crack in the functionality somewhere.
I am also EU server, and my friends got the quests but I didn't. I assume the entire server gets it at the same time right? Blizzard seems to having a lot of errors lately :/
That's the infamous Hearthstone RNG so that it matches with the gameplay. Don't worry man, they'll come. Neither do I have new quest and I still haven't rerolled an old one to test.
I am also EU server, and my friends got the quests but I didn't. I assume the entire server gets it at the same time right? Blizzard seems to having a lot of errors lately :/
I don't have any of the new quests, but most of my friends do, (EU server), does this mean it starts a day later for me or did I miss it entirely?
My assumption is that this is like every other event on launch timing - so if you're NA server it will start at 09:00 PST (so 13:00 if you're on the east coast) like everything else does. Lazy Californians not getting up early...
FWIW I'm EU and I got a special event quest today. Not sure exactly when it got added but It wasn't there when I completed my daily quest after midnight and it was there when I logged in around 2 PM.
Pretty much what Bystekhilcar said, the problem wasn't Wild Growth per se, it was the fact that Wild Growth existing as an evergreen card at that power level meant that any other ramp card they printed in future expansions would have to be piss-poor or it'd immediately push druid to top-tier. They could have HOF'ed the card IMO, but instead they chose to nerf it. Either way, the point was not to get rid of ramp but to free up design space for cheap ramp cards, as they're such a core aspect of the druid identity.
The same argument can be made for other class cards; notably a lot of the mage evergreen set is extremely powerful, think Frostbolt, Frost Nova and to a lesser extent Blizzard and Fireball. Now you can argue that these cards are doing their job at providing a playable skeleton for mages to build around, but at the same time it seems pretty obvious that mage rarely gets good burn or freeze effects because of how dominant its evergreen cards are.
On EU, a friend told me he had all empty slots and got two additional new quests (gold+dust) this morning. I got a normal quest at 00:00 today, making it 3 total, passed one so I have one slot free, and haven't got anything new today. Then I rolled one of them into an upgraded one, completed it and no new quests appeared. I don't know if it was bugged for him or me, but it's strange.
After your post I decided to check for myself. Rerolled normal quest into event quest on EU. I also got a normal last night
Both EU and Asia currently have the "Happy New Year!" greetings emote. NA does not. I assume therefore that rerolling NA normal quest would not reroll to an event quest. Once the emote changes, then I would have thought it would be active.
I do find it weird that Asia got an event quest given with or without reroll, but EU only upon reroll despite being after Asia daily reset. I speculate that's a bug.
Seems like you really haven't watched any Hearthstone Esports since they cancelled specialist, Flux. Almost every character has been brought to the playoff last year, so your "every single match" statement is false.
So far, not signon connection your hearthstone account to youtube, ~48 hours before Arlington starts. I have a feeling drops will not be part of this event. probably means viewership will also be insanely low, but the chat will be full of "!drop" messages by clueless people as always.
Something I noticed in the first chapter, but much mroe in the second, is how highroll-y are the decks you're given. Managed to lose to the senior explorers once because I ran out of cards and they got to a 5/5 Bloodmage Thalnos (I kept playing dragons, they kept killing them the same turn they were played) but when I beat them it was in 6 turns becuase I buffed my dragons in an insane way.
Managed to lose to Nithogg twice (!) before beating him, again, in a way the seemed ludicrous because it was so easy.
Really missing the dongeon run part in this adventure.

Duplicate Champion question

Overwhelm does damage to nexus even if the opponent has a barrier..

[Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)
Dragonqueen Alexstrasza? Odd + Can bring aggressive or defensive friends and pretty out of balance based on what you get?
Duplicate Champion question
This is actually not true. There are several ways to get duplicate Champions on the board at the same time.
They do not act like legendary cards in Magic.
Tirion too strong?
Tyrone wouldn't be nearly as powerful relative to other heroes if there were minions that could buff neutrals (besides Defender of Argus).
