The question that should be asked I think is if these alternate hero powers would only favor control and midrange playstyles. Yes there was the big fear over aggro getting alternate hero powers due to Genn/Baku, but these new hero powers would only benefit one or two playstyles then I feel that it would warp the 'holy trinity' of aggro/midrange/control too much towards the slower decks.
Allowing all classes to collect and use the other basic hero powers would be an enormous balance headache and would also lead to dozens of additional card nerfs for cards that aren't an issue.
Plus chances are they would dump all of the hero powers into the laps of warlock, mage, priest, and warrior with only a wink and a nod for card nerfs while eviscerating (pun intended) the class cards of classes like rogue, druid, or shaman. Zomg can't let rogues get tempo or face hero powers without nerfs, but by all means warriors, priests, and mages with life tap? Psh, favored classes will be favored classes. Can't have too much control power creep.
Uh, you don't understand. I'm not proposing that all basic hero powers should be available to all classes, that would be silly. My idea is giving entirely new collectible hero powers (like collectible heroes) to each class.
It would be a real nightmere to balance properly, just look at how Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater were forced in HoF earlier or how much DKs forced almost everyone to play them (ofc some are far better than others also thanks to their battlecry). Also it may requires a whole balance round for potential broken interaction.
It's a nice idea, but probably it should have been implemented since the start of the game instead of being thrown in at this point.
It would be hard to balance properly, but not impossible. There are people paid for that at Blizzard, and it's not like they never get it wrong even when they're conservative in what they do.
Also the Genn/Baku problem arguably already exist for one of the existing hero power: Life Tap already wraps the entire warlock class. It alone gives it its two historical main archetypes: Zoo and Hand (Ok, Flame Imp and Mountain Giant help too). As long as the new HP avoid that, we're good.
My favorite moment this expansion is using "Entomb" on my opponent's "Zephrys". Later on the game my opponent use "Archbishop Benedictus" in which I use my first "Seance" to copy his Benedictus. My opponent draw my second Seance to copy again Benedictus. Me and my opponent play Zephrys many times on that game.
I tried not to just add in random C'thun buffing minions, I tried to be strategic in what i chose. beckoner of evil and twilight elder are the only 'vanilla' minions, and I do like having them both because they are good stats to help the early game. crazed worshiper is there because he is a solid taunt, as well as c'thun buffs. and I run a single doomcaller just so that I can get more C'thuns in the deck.
I might try removing twilight elder and adding some other battlecry minion instead. about the quest, it does make you lose a card from your starting hand, and I am not sure exactly what it would do. you have the C'thun buffs, but usually you don't lose games because your c'thun is too small, and you have the healbot, but if you need more healing there might be simpler options, and you can use thaurison and get double shudderwock, but once you are able to play infinite shudderwocks, you have already won whether or not they have double battlecries.
I like the idea of using a different hero power, and I think that most of the people here agree that it's a dangerous thing. That being said, I feel like there needs to be restrictions on what can "enable" that card similar to Genn and Baku.
Examples: Druid: If your spells only summon minions.... Hunter: If your deck contains no spells.... Mage: If all the minions in your deck have spell damage +1-4.... Paladin: If all the minions in your deck cost less than 5.... Priest:If all the spells in your deck only heal.... Rogue: If your deck contains at least 5 weapons... Shaman: If the spells in your deck all have overloads.... Warrior: If the minions in your deck are only dragons.... Warlock: If the minions in your deck cost more than 6.....
I'm just spit balling those, but I'm sure you get what I'm saying. Whenever you create a card that alters a fundamental aspect of the game, there have to be other balances around that. I know you understand that but not everyone does.
The only way to make a decent use of alternate HP is a mechanic like Justicar Trueheart: high mana cost, bad stats and the only condition to use it is that you actualy have to draw that single card in your deck, so you're also tied to get a decent luck or you may not even see it.
Everything that can come into play in the early game will be broken or at last really hard to balance, because the initial turns are a crucial phase of a match and often the final outcome is determinated by how it's started.
I agree with you, but I don't promise that I will make the rap better with the next update, I'm really bad when it comes to composing music, but I will at least give it a try. In Eminem's song and in the LK's version of it there are a lot of references to be found, which I can't recreate. I made the Andy song with the intention to entertain, not to create a magnum opus.
The power of Genn/Baku is that the HP is available from turn-1, where the upgrade is very strong, and can apply early pressure.
Indeed, look at Justicar Trueheart: even if she started in your hand, she'd be acceptable at best, even if your deck was built around her. Because of her cost.
All in all, the OP's idea is kept in check by the mana cost of the activator. As long as that is properly balanced (and the alternate HP are not broken themselves) the concept will never be broken.
Considering there's an expansion every december and Blizzcon every november, I really don't see how there will ever be a Blizzcon without a new expansion announcement, as long as Hearthstone lives.
But, we can always expect some more PC titles moved to mobile, maybe WoW or Starcraft this time! I hope some body will stream the lynch mob, too bad even a virtual ticket is so overpriced I'll never pay to be there.

Collectible hero powers, a simple idea to add more depth to the game?

So either I am the unluckiest person on earth or I don't know. Watched (rather idled) for 15+ hours, not a single pack was awarded. Anyone else?

Balanced Alternate Hero Power Card Idea
How this card is balanced, if people cried earlier over Genn and Baku being op? If those two are OP, then this is for sure. Why?
Genn and Baku restrict the deck building (being odd or even), so you have limited ressources, but this has no disadvantage, but you get this on T2-3.
