This was my favorite card before the nerf. I made a deck centered around getting six of them on the board as fast as possible and finishing with Mal'Ganis. I even spent a ton of dust making the entire deck Golden.
'' That was timely addressed '' -no one By now, Big Priest isn't even dominating the wild meta, I don't even know what people are rambling about ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Typical Blizz. Nerf mana costs and assume that it fixes everything. Boom is still good albeit a bit slower and Barnes comes out one turn later in wild. Could they have been any less inventive given all of the nerf suggestions on every fan site? We're not going to see any fewer Big Priests in wild nor will we see any fewer Control Warriors in standard.
Not to happy with Extra Arms and Luna's Pocket Galaxy. The first one shouldn't have been reverted back and the latter should have gone to 6 instead. Dr. Boom nerf was needed although I wish they changed the armour gain to 5 instead of 7. Barnes nerf, I want to say has been a long time coming.. but Big priest has so many tools to keep itself alive and resurrect now.. Idk if a 1 mana nerf will put a dent into that.. CC nerf I am not to surprised with. I am surprised with them not nerfing another Warrior card, considering how dominant it has been in the meta.. but we shall see if the Dr. Boom nerf will do the trick.
This is fair. 2 more turns to pressure with an aggro deck will do wonders. And if you're playing the control mirror you already had ways to beat it. This is what the card deserved.
As soon as Vargoth was printed and began being used in Big Priest I knew that even if Barnes would be nerfed or even straight up deleted from the game that Vargoth would be an instant (and in most cases superior) over Barnes as the hard mulligan 4 drop. While it is true that Barnes created early game high rolls Vargoth is infinitely times better than Barnes in the late game against control decks.
Which would you rather not have a Big Priest player top deck against you in the late game, Barnes or Mass Ressurection with Vargoth in the pool? Did I mention Shadow Visions? How about a single Mind Blast on a board of 4-7 Vargoths?
It doesn't matter how Barnes is changed when Vargoth solidifies the major anti-control playstyle that came about with the intense value, sustain, and high swing turns after the minion was printed.
We need more than a barnes nerf, odd rogue is probably the best deck right now and it does well vs big prist already, rest of the nerfs mean value and control get pinned, leaving aggro alone, because mech hunter didnt see enough time on top?
While Conjurer’s Calling is a powerful tool that’s found in a number of Mage decks, when used in decks focused around cards like Mountain Giant and Sea Giant, it was creating extremely powerful board states at a point in the game where opponents didn’t have effective answers.
Ok T5, then how about changing the cards that let to the "powerful board states" be changed? Because, let's face it, there will eventually be more cards that will be broken more because of 4 mana 8/8s than because of the card's own power level. And yes, [Hearthstone Card (Conjurer’s Calling) Not Found] at 4 is still good, but the combos with the Giants will still show up in the mid game, even if a bit less often.
No, Northshire Cleric is really strong (I dare to say it's one of the few good 1 drops remained in the evergreen set, if not the best).
However, I have two arguments for you:
1) Healing and drawing cards rarely win games since you can't kill your opponent. Yeah, this new midrange style may change the situation, but still
2) Cleric is one of the few good cards that Priest has in his evergreen set, alongside with Inner Fire, Divine Spirit, Power Word: Shield and arguably Shadow Word: Death (rip Mind Blast). The rest is meme/trash stuff. Now, Priest can be considered a class for like 4 months per year, and this is in part possible because of Northshire Cleric. You can't just erase it with a nerf or replace it with a random Radiance.
Team 5 doesn't want Cleric to be the way it is now? Fine: rework Priest's Basic and Classic set to be playable (not broken or meta defining, just playable) and we have a deal, but as long as the situation remains unchanged it would be unreasonable to touch Northshire Cleric
This would at least prevent the early turn 4/3 auto-concede moment that isn't super frustrating to deal with.
How is turn 4/5 auto-concede moment any less frustrating? If anything that's more frustrating because you have to waste time on another turn waiting to see if they have Barnes.
This nerf completely misses the point that countless forums have been explaining.
This nerf is a huge slap in the face to wild players.
Hell, it's about time. Though I'm not confident, that the 1-cost increase would be enough.
Vargoth is infinitely better in the deck than Barnes will ever be. Barnes created highrolls, but Vargoth created intense value/sustain against control decks. Vargoth allows double Mass Res boards out of thin air (more so if they choose to shadow visions Mass Res for extra greed).
Yeah, people had many better ideas, in my opinion, on how to nerf this card, and it is disappointing to me how Blizzard just went with a boring mana nerf rather than an interesting idea. (Kibler, Kripp, people on various fourms, anyone??)
But whatever, the nerf was much needed, and thank God it happened at all.
I'll just happily pocket the 1600 dust as this card was by Boomsday freebie.
Honestly it means absolutely nothing. Anyone knowledgeable in the match-up or even experienced pilots of the deck knows that Vargoth is even more important in the deck now that Barnes in many instances. Sure, Barnes provided some highroll near instant win games, but he was almost utterly useless in the late game. Vargoth on the other hand? Would you rather have a Big Priest opponent top deck Barnes in the late game or Mass Res, very often highrolling a Vargoth target that instantly doubles the board on the board due to a second Mass Res? Also, ever had a Big Priest pull a win out of their ^ss by running out of resources then suddenly 'stealing' a win by getting a repeatedly ressed Vargoth board to stick for one turn and then dying to a single Mind Blast?
I think most people are going to realize very quickly that Big Priest is not going anywhere on wild ladder. Vargoth is a vastly superior tool that can easily carry the archtype even if Barnes was completely deleted from the game.
I love the nerf to Barnes. It's pretty fair. I was just thinking that if they nerf it to 6 Mana, it will kill the card as it is a Neutral card and it's usage is not just in Big Priest.
Even the idea of an Actor token won't work cos it is still turn 4/3 big minion cos it is too early and too fast for the opponent to handle. Hence, the only logical way to nerf it is a 1 Mana increase to 5 Mana.
This would at least prevent the early turn 4/3 auto-concede moment that isn't super frustrating to deal with.
I glad Blizzard did not kill the card like how they killed Naga Seawitch and kept the design of the card.
Sure Resurrect mechanics may still pose a problem. At least now, Big Priest will feel less of a gamble and more like a control greedy deck. Well done!

I'm glad this uncounterable mistake of a card and I will never cross paths again

Five Card Nerfs Coming Next Week Including Dr. Boom, Mad Genius & Barnes!
Because it means buffs were a huge fail.
And buffs are a daring action that is performed against the verdict of the final testing team.
Which means, why do they test cards at all?
See the point?
Nerf itself is ok. The whole process is a big failure.
Card Nerf - Conjurer's Calling
Great nerf

FWIW - this card's win-rate stats were comparable to Luna's and Boom's. This nerf is pretty necessary.

This is still my favorite, and it's always nice to encounter another player with it.
