That's an interesting effect for sure. Mountain Giant is an obvious target, especially with Evenlock in Wild. I wouldn't hate having two copies of Bloodreaver Gul'dan either...
My first impression is it's a great design. The discard isn't detrimental since you'll be discarding the highest cost card which you won't play until later, and you'll immediately get value out of this because it's easily killable. Can even have synergy with Mortal Coil, as some users have pointed out.
I don't know what deck this could fit in yet, maybe Handlock?
I think this is very powerful and not only usable in Highlander Decks - i kinda think that this is gonna be a sleeper card - not that good at the beginning of the Expansion but will wreak Havoc a little after that :)
I think this is pretty good ! Stats are pretty good and the effect is not that bad, because most upgraded Hero Powers are very powerful - but we will have to wait and see if Paladin gets other good Highlander Cards
This card is really good on turn 2 after Malchezaar's Imp. Plus it can offer great value if you discard a big minion/spell or a combo piece for a possible otk. I'm starting to like the semi-controlled discard.
I don't like the discard mechanic overall. But the latest discard cards Blizzard made, are waaaaay better then the first ones. "Discard your lowest cost card..." to gain a good effect was pretty solid.
Now we get "Discard your highest cost Card..." to gain a really good Deathrattle. I don't play Warlock, but I think there are good high cost Cards you wanna duplicate.
In conclusion this seems to be a good 2 drop for Warlock and that it's only rare make it even better!
Really liking this take on the discard mechanic. Not only is it more consistant and doesn't rely on as much RNG - you end up trading a bit of tempo for some later game value.
Seems like a good potential fit in control style warlocks, and IMO has a solid chance to see play.
I was realy hoping for a better Effect but i guess it´s ok - sure not enough to build a Highlander Deck for this but maybe they will add other good Highlander Cards and mabye then this will be good

Because in standard building a highlander deck is a huge cost. Old Reno and kazakus had effects that could pretty much steal the game from the opponent whereas this just seems... OK? It's terribly lackluster as a proactive threat and as a reactive play it's easy to imagine situations where not even 10 damage deals with an enemy board,FE Conj. + Mountain Giant.
^ Basically this.
Yesterday, while I was writing my post on this thread, I also compared Reno to Dyn-o-matic and Omega Devastator and, oh boy, words can't describe how weak he is compared to the aforementioned minions. The conditions of those mechs can be met with ease, they gain extra synergy with Dr. Boom, Mad Genius and can be discovered with things like Omega Assembly and Delivery Drone. Reno could admittedly inflict more damage to enemy minions and can be played prior to turn 10, but in the context of the highlander requirement he is terribly lackluster like you said. This concerns standard; things might be different in wild.
I like the Highlander archetype but it needs a lot more support if they wanna make it work. Plus Bomb Warrior is still a thing, so who knows if the Highlander archetype will be worth playing anyway.
I'm starting to believe that they will print something like "destroy cards that didn't start in your deck" or "destroy all duplicates" tech card, just because Bomb Warrior would counter all these Highlander strategies so hard if they didn't. And I don't think they'd like to see this many legendaries to be obsolete until rotation (although plenty of bomb stuff will survive the rotation, yayyy....).
Wild will be hilarious to play tbh. This expansion will impact wild more than standard imo. Highlanders, Quests etc. This year's throwbacks is so good for wild. Blizzard finally acts for wild too. :)
I strongly agree with this. The new legendary cards are de facto wild specific, cuz' standard would hardly support their respective theorycrafted archtypes properly. There would be some exceptions of course and we need to see the rest of the set, in order to determine how the meta would look like, but I personally think that Highlander decks wouldn't be that popular in that format. And there is also the argument about Bomb Warrior lurking around there.
As for Elise - yeah, I see logic in your statement. It's true, that the "value generation" aspect of her effect and the 5/5 stats resemble her second version, although the outcome of her effect isn't random anymore.
I got into wild when I realized that Mechwarper was a card. During the Boomsday expansion, it occurred to me that Galvanizer would stack with it and it led me to hitting Rank 4 with Mech Hunter. I had previously never been higher than rank 20. Consistent turn 4 lethal damage, it was nuts.
I had started playing when the Witchwood xpac came out. Playing in wild definitely teaches you more about the game. You see some crazy combos.

New Warlock Minion - Expired Merchant
for the first time, when you discard Bloodreaver Gul'dan and you are happy about it
in wild, if you hold Gul'dan already, for 6 mana play Spiritsinger Umbra to Expired Merchant for 4 additional copies ;)
New Warlock Minion - Expired Merchant
Bloodreaver Gul'dan, N'Zoth, the Corruptor and you can immediately gain the effect with Mortal Coil. Its 1 Health also helps you proc Defile.
Oh my, SOU offers many cards, that mostly impact wild.
New Hunter Minion - Dinotamer Brann
Not sure if this will find it´s way in standard but could work in wild.

I don't think this can be evaluated before seeing the last highlander card. In a vacuum it seems weak, but I won't write it off quite yet.
