Yep. One of my favourite decks currently is reno hand mage and meteorologist has almost single handedly won games against other control decks by giving me a ton of burst they weren't expecting. I certainly wouldn't replace meteorologist for new reno, I'm honestly not sure what (if anything) would be worth dropping to add him to that deck and that's a deck that already deals with the big downside of this card
Reno is terrible in standard though. Why wouldn't you just build a normal deck and run extra copies of the better removal mage already has? Your deck would likely be stronger including him as a vanilla 4/6 and not worrying restrictions than by utterly gimping it for that battlecry.
If they'd put lifesteal on him or had the battlecry trigger twice in a row (to counter deathrattle/ reborn minions) then it would be worth considering. As it stands they'd have to reveal some absurdly good highlander support this xpac for mage to make it worth even considering running this.
I think there's reasonable tools for standard pally as it is to make Finley viable (particularly midrange but I could see control or aggro running this as well) but the key thing to remember here is that he will only get stronger as more cards come out. I wouldn't be surprised to see Finley having the same sort of game swinging impact in your opening hand that Keleseth has after the third expansion each year, even as part of this expansion he might just prove to be incredibly powerful.
At the very least he's the only one of these 4 I would even consider running in standard based on the current card pool. Hunter has always been a class with strong cards that keep it viable, only being able to run one copy of each of those would be a massive drawback. Aggro highlander has never been a thing, even in wild, for a reason plus by turn 7 bomb warrior will likely have multiple bombs in your deck anyway nullifying him whereas Finley can land turn 2 (or 1 with the coin) before your opponent has had any chance to mess with your deck.
Aggro likes the effect, yeah, but I'm afraid the cost you have to pay is too high. Aggressive decks love consistency and highlander decks are the opposite of that.
Maybe some sort of Zoo Paladin could use it in Wild, though, because there are a lot of quality low cost minions there.
Well, to be fair, old Finley also gave you an unreliable Hero Power and he was widely used in many decks, especially aggressive ones.
That said, he was neutral, had premium stats for his cost and didn't require you to cripple your deck. The fact that the HP you get is upgraded doesn't make up for this at all, IMO.
All of them are too bad to build a deck around them - the restriction is too high without further support of a highlander styled deck ... I had high hopes for the four returning, but the only one I think could be played is Elise in an Control Druide Deck that has Duplicates, but you play her in the end when you have no cards left to double up Elysiana ... So, in the end, I will stick with the League of EVIL instead of the League of Explorers and will raid Uldum and fly away with some pyramids =D
Usually I have a Top 10 most wanted for legendaries and epics for the upcoming expansion. So far, nothing has made my list. :( The Big Four Heroes are pretty underwhelming.
This expansion has to bring back priest or slower warlock decks in standard, and I don't have my hopes up yet.
I almost didn't buy the last expansion -- I hate murlocs, I hate sticky aggro (treants, mechs), had a feeling Conjurer's Calling (yep) and paladin secrets (so far, nope) would be problems. Only Bomb Warrior and the control potential of shaman got my interest.
At the last minutes I took the $50 package and I managed to get almost everything I wanted (did have to spend a lot of dust for Big Shaman and Bomb Warrior). Been playing more wild than standard though.
I must admit, the single player stuff was pretty good for Rise of Shadows. That convinced me.
Favorite Deck (Standard): Big Shaman. (Wild): Fel Reaver Treachery Warlock
Deck I Want to See Succeed: Dragon decks (Dragon Shaman seems fun but is a few cards away), Portal Warlock, anything but Inner Fire Priests, and something for the golden High Inquisitor Whitemane I got from a brawl pack.
Deck I Want to See Less: Any Hunter, Trees or Murloc aggro.
Finally card designed for my Reno Hunter <3 Currently my iteration of this deck lacks good finisher, so I will definitely try old Brann Bronzebeard + Dinotamer Brann, maybe after Alexstrasza?
Exactly this! <3 I tried reno hunter before and the new Brann fits perfectly.
Wow what trash. There is literally no saving these cards. I hope that the E.V.I.L Legendaries are a little better at least. Not that that they set the bar too high anyway.
Most fun I've been having with this game lately is with Reno Dragon Hunter. Throwing this into that is a no brainer. Who cares if these cards are unplayable in standard, that's not the only game mode!
So, if you are playing a Reno Jackson list in Wild, luck out and have this and Brann Bronzebeard on turn 10, you can do 16 face damage? Seems like a one-in-a-million shot.
I think a 7 mana King Krush plus a 2/4 is something to be considered, even if you whiff the Brann Bronzebeard when playing a highlander deck. Yes Hunter doesn't have the highlander support that the Kabal (Warlock, Priest, Mage) classes got in Mean Streets. However any Reno Hunter will be playing this certainly. Standard does need a stronger build around card for any highlander stuff to be played. In wild, however, I'd bet we see some Reno Hunter for sure post launch.
Really like this card. It's got okay stats for midgame. An effect that just hitting one or two minions is strong (especially a Zilliax or Bronze Gatekeeper of a Boom) and repeats each turn. This make the card a good addition to Warrior. It won't bring Taunt warrior back by it's self but it won't take much but 1 or 2 strong taunt minions in a deck to make this a strong card.
I think overall handbuff cards are under rated or people try to be too greedy with them. Just hitting 2 cards is a free Blessing of Kings. Yes you can whiff with handbuff cards. However I wouldn't be dissapointed to play a 6 mana 4/7 taunt sometimes.
New Mage Minion - Reno the Relicologist
Could be made playable by adding a single word: "Lifesteal" (even if it cost him some stats).
Hot trash for standard based on the current known card pool though.
The Four Legendary Explorers of Saviors of Uldum Have Been Revealed!

New Paladin Minion - Sir Finley of the Sands
The only one of those who could actually be played.

Surely there's a major issue with that as Elise is a minion too so there's no consistent way to have dreampetal land on Maly instead of her?

New Mage Minion - Reno the Relicologist
If that happens, I bet the character will be Harrison Jones.
New Druid Minion - Elise the Enlightened
To be fair, she was a 5/5 in Un'goro.
I guess she won some muscle when she was in the crater and hasn't lost it :)

New Druid Minion - Elise the Enlightened
Except that you're just making any Aviana, Kun the Forgotten King combo significantly worse by adding in Elise the Enlightened. You can't draw her off Juicy Psychmelon and you're adding way more cards than necessary for a game winning combo.
Have you pre-ordered the expansion yet?

Uldum Warrior Legendary Card Reveal - Armagedillo
You know Transformers did it first, right? Snaptrap, 1988.
Uldum Warrior Legendary Card Reveal - Armagedillo
Man, it would be some kind of... Beast War.
That's just prime.
New Mage Minion - Reno the Relicologist
Battlecry: choose and cast a spell between Polymorph Flamestrike Greater Arcane Missiles.
That would have been acceptable, and more creative than this thing.
Anyway, i'm fairly sure there will be one more Highlander card in the set. A Neutral one, and good enough to justify Highlander decks in Standard.

We need a warlock Rafaam hero card for control style decks!
Highlander Mill Mage (Saviors of Uldum edition)
You would be surprised. Most of the time my opponent waits to see what I'm actually going to do
The Four Legendary Explorers of Saviors of Uldum Have Been Revealed!
Wow, that seems to be FUN!
