I honestly can't speak to how "crippled" your deck would feel in Standard since I don't play the format, but in Wild, especially in classes like Mage or Hunter, there are so many good cards, especially in terms of removal, that any non-highlander deck you build is aready not including like 7 different viable card choices. At that point, going highlander doesn't change things that much, unless there is a handful of really crucial, irreplaceable pieces you want (like second Ice Block or such). Obviously in standard the penalty is going to be more severe since you both have fewer choices and less direct highlander support, but we're also nearing the end of the year, so Standard is nearing the peak of its card quantity. If there are ever going to be good chances for Standard to have viable highlander decks, it's in this or the last set of the year. The only thing potentially crippling its chances now compared to the next year's cycle is that Standard is currently weighed down by Witchwood, which had a number of cards rotated out to Wild prematurely. So Witchwood isn't as big of a set as it should be.
I feel strongly that this card is being overrated. While Finley is out the earliest of the 4, he is also the one who is easiest to miss with. You wouldn't put him in an aggro deck because it's very hard to make a no dups aggro deck, and if you tried to put him in aggro you can really miss with warrior, priest, and shaman. In a control deck, you might be fine with most hero powers, but there are gonna be moments where you really want one and won't get it. I don't think Finley provides the consistency you want out of his effect.
Mostly agree with this. Sir Finley Mrrgglton only saw play in aggro decks that had useless base hero powers (shaman, paladin and warrior mostly). Aggro paladin isn't going to run a highlander deck just to have a shot at getting a good hero power. As for control paladin... eh. It's always an upside since the 1/1s are negligible in a control deck I guess, but paladin doesn't have enough tools for a highlander control deck right now.
I mean original finley was played in aggressive decks... I mean if you can find 30 aggressive cards this almost always improves your hero power for aggro... because the only upgraded hero powers that are bad for aggro are Warrior, Priest and Shaman (and even then shaman can generate you stuff to buff, so not that bad)
Surely... *surely* the full set has other cards that benefit highlander decks... Otherwise I can't see why they pushed this so hard with all the explorer cards.
After all, only original Reno had that restriction so its not like you can justify it based on flavour alone.
Cannot wait to smash some double Brann Reno hunter action though!
Dinotamer Brann (4): Literally unplayable card without the battlecry goin off. It could happen, you could aim for it, if you draft it early and could become your win condition, but that aint gonna happen often. Also Hunter does not have that many good cards to choose from, so you def want to get duplicates.
Elise the Enlightened (3): Ok stats for the cost, so even without the ability she is playable. You probably wont be building your deck around her, but could be a nice value boost in a longer game, where you might have already drawn all them duplicates you had.
Reno the Relicologist (4): Barely playable stats for the cost, but better than Brann. Mage could definitely try going highlander route, there is a lot of cards to pick from and playing Reno will always net you a powerful tempo turn, could be worth it, but who knows.
Sir Finley of the Sands (3): Vanilla 2-drop with an upside, there are worse legendaries. Murloc tribe can come in handy as well.
I can't find words to describe how disappointed I was after seing Reno the Relicologist. Like others have said, the reward is not good enough for the highlander requirement. It's also very boring for a (class specific) legendary, I would say. I guess we have to wait, until we see the rest of the SOU set, in order to determine how good highlander decks would be in standard. And I don't want to think about this being included in wild. But maybe, just maybe Reno Mage would be desperate enough to add a 6-mana Volcano that deals 10 damage to the enemy board just because the class doesn't possess priest's and warlock's amazing AoEs.

People seem to be underestimating these cards old reno was good enought to build a deck around.
Reno the Relicologist is two Cinderstorm's plus a 4/6 in stats. That's 5 Mana for the stats +3+3+1 for combining cards that's 12 mana for the cost of 6 Mana.
Brann is 2+9 = 11 Mana
Elise is 5+3/5 for the card draw that's 8/10 Mana
Finley might be the weakest but still 2+1/2 Mana for the upgraded Hero Power that's 3/4 Mana.
Very good in Wild (where Reno Druids already exists), but is it strong enough to build whole deck around it? I doubt it. I think that this card might enable tricky combo, but currently I don't have any ideas.
How is this very good in wild?
A deck "existing" doesn't mean it's good. Technically all reno decks already "exist" in wild. It's just that none of them are even close to competitive besides three.
I have no idea how good this is, BUT, it makes me WANT to play Hunter, and I think that's very good design.
Hunter is a class that needs consistency to work, so no-dups decks work contrary to this. But when this hits it's gonna feel so good and so satisfying. It'll definitely see a lot of experimenting. I hope it ends up being good enough.

I liked the highlander mechanic. Unsure of these effects though... Seems a little underwhelming.

Standard is gonna need some good highlander support if they ever want to see these cards see play.

2 mana discount in King Crush with an extra 2/4... might be worth it... especially if you add couple of bounce effects...

I mean sure... but needs more support to be worth it...

All of these seem pretty meh...
It's like Team 5 are so scared of a year of the mammoth scenario again that they are being overly cautious and as such it's resulting in boring cards.
I still haven't even pre-ordered this expansion yet and I'm someone that buys them all every time. I don't see anything exciting yet.
It feels like a worse League of Explorers so far.
The best part of this expansion so far is the trailer music!
New Mage Minion - Reno the Relicologist
No deck restrictions, weaker stats, same effect most of the time....
