That said, I am sorely tempted to get back into some WOW with my old guild or @FluxFlashor (I loved the game during "Classic" and Burning Crusade), but I think I'd be heading for a divorce if I played that game as much I'd like to!
As a busy parent of 3, Hearthstone has been my #1 game for a few years now (pretty much my only game at this point - it's all I have time for). I play 90% of the time on mobile. I am excited to see what they have in store for us next week!
Martian used the Reno DH list to climb to legend, but admittedly only because he had the 11 star bonus. He called it a fun deck on his stream, but not necessarily a strong one :)
Cyclone is absolutely crazy. I mainly play constructed, but when I do play BGs I have been forcing elementals every run. Getting cyclone at the right time and getting to buff it has been the run-defining play (the difference between Top 4 or not, for me - admittedly not a BG pro by any means). Getting a big one golden (without the Whirlwind Tempest) can just obliterate an opponent's board.
I played Rag in my most recent Battlegrounds run - it took an eternity to complete the Sulfuras "quest" because the match-making kept putting me up against the Kel-thuzad player who had quit on Turn 1. Hahah. Eventually got there XD, and finished 2nd in the lobby with 4 Whirlwind Tempests on board (2 golden).
I am also sad that his stream will be far less frequent - it seems like fewer and fewer big streamers are broadcasting ranked which is what I prefer to watch. Best of luck to Boar, though!
I just watched the video - so awesome. I love his initial remarks, but his reaction on stream is just so genuine - you can just feel his disappointment.
I was flipping back and forth between their streams on Twitch - Funki took it pretty well and still got to the 12 wins. He had a great game against Deaddraw at 10 or 11 wins too.
Boar went 4-3 with Priest (his chat voted for that one). 9-3 with Soul DH, 12-0 with Libroom Pally (just barely beating FunkiMonki in the mirror at 8-0 on a miracle cast from High Abbess Alura - fun fact: Funki got 12-2 with his deck), and then 9-3 with Totem Shaman (that's where the 21-0 came from).
A lot of the sentiments I have on this question have already been mentioned by other eloquent posters - but to summarize:
1) This community seems a lot less toxic and more helpful than other alternative sites. The forums experience here is just so much more pleasant on many levels.
2) I am a daily lurker/user of this site for the Hearthstone content only. This is the the only place I come for HS game news and updates.
3) This is not the only place I come for deck lists and deck guides. I like the aesthetic here a ton, but other sites like Hearthpwn give me the impression of being more dynamic and decks seem to get a lot more interest/discussion there. I don't visit those other sites daily, but when I want to try out a new (non-original) idea, I will check there for discussion.
Oddly, I got a duplicate epic card in my single free pack, despite not having all mage epics in standard.
Edit: I double checked my collection and the only mage epics that I don’t have 2 of are the two classics (Spellbender and Icicle). So maybe they’re not giving classic cards. That seems to be borne out in the earlier comment.
I saw on both the Blizzard and Battlefy sites that the prizes for participants in the tournament were Hearthstone packs - hilarious. Pretty sure anyone on that list already has access to the cards they want. Are there really no cash awards for this level of competition? Why would a current GM or other pro player want to participate? I know there's some points system that contributes to becoming a GM if you do well in tournaments, but the lack of money seems funny to me.
Thanks for responding - I must have either missed the most recent podcast, or I missed the comment specifically. I usually listen to the podcast when I am working so I tend to tune a lot of it out.
Is there any more consensus out there around whether Pure Paladin is better than a non-pure Libram build? Vicious Syndicate keeps saying they have no data on non-Pure builds, so they refuse to/can't/won't compare the two. I have only played Pure, but I am wondering if the Pure "payoff" (three cards) is enough to off set other sacrifices you make.
I made it to legend last month with a pretty standard Pure list, but if non-Pure is better, I want to use that list on ladder.

Right after the next expansion comes out - they love screwing with the pros by holding tournaments right after a release.
Amen to that! I'm hard passing on tomorrow's event.

Funki, congrats on the shout out in today's VS report!
EDIT: Oh, and great guide as usual.

I got a duplicate epic from my free pack: Apexis Blast. I was surprised by this, as I don't have all the mage epics in standard.
Epic! Great write up! Thanks Goliath
Thank you for clarifying/confirming. That makes a lot more sense.
