Reign of the Black Empire Card Reveals - Day 6 [Finished]

Today is our sixth day of card reveals for Reign of the Black Empire, where we've got two of our Orc heroes, Thrall and Gul'Dan at the forefront. Today is focused on Shaman and Warlock, although we've also got a random other reveal happening later in the day.

We have a whole guide on everything about the expansion right here, and every card in one place right here.

Though Ritual of C'Thun was revealed previously already, it is here again for context with Kith'ix.

  • Add to the additional cards revealed;

Zakajz the Corruptor - Its a good card but I dislike its design. Like keleseth and all its ilk, you either draw and play it on curve or you just dont play the game. Because alot of what this card does is to encourage you to build a deck composed of shit cards that are good only after this card is played. And the associated cards that came with it isnt any better neither. Cards like mawman cultist and mindrot subjugator isnt actual cards that'll see play outside of this specific archetype, and without zakajz to fire them up, they are not merely underwhelming, but approaching unplayable levels.

Floating Lessons - Basically zakajz filler. You play that, then play this and get +4 to a minion on board and hand, but you will simply never see this combo pulled off because its fucking too slow in a board based deck.

Blasphemy - Again another illustration as to why zakajz's design is just a bad one. At 4 mana, you will simply never trigger this consistently unless your entire deck is composed of mainly 1-3 drops, or you play it in a zakajz deck, with zakajz out on curve. Outside of those decks, its simply never gonna see play because its nigh impossible to trigger its additional effects in warlock.

Mindrot Subjugator - Its actually funny how a card like this can possibly be worth 5 mana, and yet it does, because if this was 4 mana it wouldve been a decent card but rendered insane after zakajz is played so it has to be 5 mana.

Bloatray - It is unimpressive but its designed to be arena filler where its incredible, and to be gotten out of random effects, which will also be incredible.

Primordial Wyrm - Shouldve read summon instead of play. As it stands its not even arena filler. This is just a trash card that'll never be played in any deck.

  • Ammunae - Yup, its yet another druid card that reads, if I play this safely I win the game. At least in this rendition of hearthstone where value in the lategame tends to stick more often than not. So you play this card, load up a bunch of deathrattles, get nzoth to zero, then win I guess. Just dont ragequit the moment a rogue player steals this and does the exact same thing.

Neptulon, Lord of Tides - There are some small synergies with this but its way too slow. Youd get destroyed the moment this card is played because it doesnt protect your face, and the idea of this card winning you the game is conjecture at best.

Therazane the Earthmother - Unlike neptulon, this card is faster, and can actually win you the game provided its played safely. I dont really know what its gonna do optimally on top of my head, but allowing basically double spells per spellschool tends to guarantee at least excess of 10 damage to face or value for days in the midgame.

Kith'ix - Much like therazane, if you play this safely chances are good youre gonna win the game. Dont expect too much of the tickatus effect, that will basically never be chosen, because when you can get +6 to all stats throughout your side, youre winning all but priest matches.

Deathblossom - Maybe its just me, but this card is nuts. Not because of board but because its like the early game druid needs to survive in between felwood treants, auras, and playing wickerfang. You dont need to play the attack druid starters anymore just to not die to aggro.

Xel'noth Behemoth - If you can get nzoth to a low enough cost you can easily just play this, get two ghoulies out and do somewhere around 14-18 damage. Or you can just play it on 5, and your opponent will still need to spend resources to clear your board or die the next turn.

Assimilating Ooze - At some point its gonna get nerfed to summon another assimilating ooze instead

Elemental of Madness - A card that might get zee shaman possibly nerfed for a 2nd time. Not because its backbreaking but because it makes zee less predictable and therefore more annoying when they inevitably cheese a way out.

Crystalline Golem - A near mandatory card for warlock, but in all other classes maybe less so. Its only really warlock nowadays that greeds games, and this one card delays death by at least a good turn.

So more good signs for DK, a class thats left starving for two expansions now. Warlock stands still perhaps because its not like any of the new cards thus far will force them to do anything else, while shaman gets a few interesting toys but only time will tell if they will actually play something thats not either a mug or a zee.

Elemental Crystal Core on a 7/7 stick? Might be too slow, but it's still a scary proposition.

  • Therazane is pretty good with the C'Thun buff spell. You get all four powers in one cast, and you can prepare it in advance since you're not likely to have another Shadow spell.
