Last week there was a Reddit thread where user, OtzoyGt, talked about how the meta gets shaped primarily by MegaMogwai and Swim and how frustrating it can be seeing the same decks over and over. Legends of Runeterra producer, Dovagedys, and Mobalytics founder, Uthgar both responded to the thread and provided lots of insight about the meta and how they are using the data that they gather.
Quote From Dovagedys We are working on a way to be able to share more data with everyone more broadly. We don't have an estimated date yet, but we think it is extremely important to show you all the possible competitive decks that are available. The number is much larger than data aggregation sites currently represent.
We want to help give more information. We don’t want you all to feel like you must play the same 6 or 7 decks to have success. We want everyone to have the option to play 30 decks and have success.
I hope sharing this helps and I hope we can share more data on the meta with you very soon.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more meta data straight from Riot! In an effort to break away from the usual, top decks and introduce something outside the norm, here are a couple of fun, off-meta builds to try out for yourself this weekend!

inb4 they mask up elusive burn decks. elusive has been the bane of this game since its inception, add burn to it and u have a recipe for disaster. great game tbh but HS seems to be picking up the slack even after the DH debacle
Releasing data. Helping players. What is this nonsense?
jk
It's very refreshing actually!
I know, right! I play hearthstone and have been intrigued by runeterra but don't really have the time (family, job, and such). Info like this directly from the source is super enticing. But I've heard runeterra games are long.
Runeterra games are probably longer on average, but honestly there aren’t any super slow control decks that take 30 minutes to kill you. Even the slowest decks typically kill you by turn 15 or so.
games can also be longer simply due to thinking about plays. The game has instant speed interaction and an attacking blocking phase like magic, which makes it much more complex than hearthstone, but the system is simplified, so it’s easier than magic in that sense. they are just long enough and interactive enough that you simply can’t play it on autopilot like hearthstone (obviously depends the deck but way less autopilot decks in runeterra). So not bathroom break, but a good car ride or lunch break in the concept of weaving it into work.
the big draw is the ftp model. I spent 5 bucks on the intro bundle just to have a couple cards to work with in may. I now have at least one copy of every legendary and am maybe 10 or so off from completing the entire collection (there are 35 “legendaries,” and you can have 3 of each). All I did was complete quests, get daily win xp bonuses in about 30 minutes, and then went to do something else with my life. It’s the most generous system I’ve ever seen, and I feel like it’s a huge loss that mtg arena and hearthstone do not do so themselves.
@BigE
I play Hearthstone and Magic: Arena so, like you, I really don't have time for two card games, never mind three. O_o
But I do play Runeterra on occasion and it is a nice change of pace. I'm completely FtP, because I definitely don't have money for three card games!
To answer your question, it depends on your deck and your opponent's deck (obviously) but I would rather have a longer back and forth game than a quick aggro/"you're dead" game. I'm probably in the minority here and longer games could be an issue, especially if you don't have a lot of time.
Anyway, I would d/l it if you get a chance. You could always try it and if it doesn't work for you, nothing lost (except time, but no one has enough of that anyway...LOL).
Which do you care about more? Shorter games or having more fun playing them?
Incidentally, the shortest reasonable LoR game is longer than the shortest reasonable HS game, yes.
But the longest possible LoR game is a LOT shorter than control warrior mirror matches.
And LoR is just a better and more fun game than HS.
In my experience, Expedition games can easily take 15 or more minutes - those are like Hearthstone’s Arena, but fun. Apparently the game slows down when both players are using an unfamiliar deck and there are rewards at stake.
But regular Ranked and Casual games are maybe only a minute or two longer than my games with a midrange Hearthstone deck.
Even if the games aren’t significantly longer, they DO require more attention. I can play a game of Hearthstone on my phone while I put away dishes or keep half an eye on my kids. If I try to do that with Runeterra, I’ll lose bad.
Well, that is true, you do need to kinda "stay at the screen" since you are alternating action with your opponent. I suppose that is a bit of a downside vs HS in that regard. But at least it kinda sorta prevents ppl from roping, when you are doing something else while playing HS, you tend to generally rope a lot, which is pretty annoying to be on the other side of things.
