Hearthstone

So after a long time of contemplating I have decided to actually just quit Hearthstone altogether. I have done this once before back in April but I came back out of boredom (and because the new expansion looked pretty good). HOwever, I can no longer play this game while keeping my sanity and it has become a huge time sink for me.

Basically my reason for leaving once and for all is this: The game has become way too....one sided? Basically over the past year swing turns have become more and more important....and this expansion is by far the worst. Basically every single class in the game has one or more brutal swings that either need an immediate specific answer or else the game is decided on the spot. Classes that don't have this resort to pure aggro (DH and Hunter for instance).

Essentially Hearthstone has turned into what I quit Legends of Runeterra over. A game where answers are sparse and a single play decides the game instead of multiple smaller ones.

To illustrate my point here's the summation of class dynamics right now:

Druid: Ramp to 7, get GA and win from there. If it gets dealt with use one of your many other game ending combos or cards to win. No real actual strategy involved, just play whatever you have in hand that keeps you alive or puts big stuff on the board.

Hunter: Doesn't have crazy swings, so burning your opponent to death is the way to go. Single player game because all you need to do is get as much damage in as possible.

Mage: Cyclone MAge is all about getting Mana Giant out as fast as possible. Highlander Mage is literally just an RNG fiesta at this point.

Warrior: Bomb Warrior is probably the only real control deck left in the game and its gameplan is literally to just spam bombs that your opponent can't interact with. Who thought combining Resident Sleeper Warrior with Face Hunter was a good idea?

Paladin: Between Alura and Argent Braggart they just generally tend to have better plays than everyone else on curve. If you fall behind you're not gonna catch up

Demon Hunter: pretty much just Hunter's mentally deficient brother. Ironically enough, probably the most "interactive" of the bunch and they still win by just going face

Shaman: Even the worst class in the game relies on sticking a totem on turn 2 or 3 and winning from there

Priest: plays a bunch of reactive garbage, but they can steal your stuff for 5-mana now and that's how they win.

Rogue: Their strongest deck revolves around playing minions that most opponents can't reasonably interact with. Any deck that doesn't is much worse by comparison

Warlock: literally got nerfed because all they did was swing the game by turn 3 in Wild. Will probably not even exist anymore in Standard afterwards.

I've tried just memeing and having fun and not taking things too seriously, but you can't have fun with slower decks or play for value if you either die inevitably or get curbstomped by turn 7.

What I used to enjoy about HEarthstone was the constant back and forth. Threat - answer- threat - answer - etc. If one player didn't have an answer they fell behind and had to find a way to deal with the situation which eventually decided the game. Sure, RNG was always a factor that could radically change results but there was always this sense of having an out (at least for most normal decks)

I just don't see the point in playing a game where every match boils down to: "Oh look I had a great mulligan, guess I win" or "Oh look I didn't draw my cards in order, I guess they win instead". And I know, things can always change and balance patches have been more frequent....but I really REALLY don't believe this current meta can even be fixed at this point. They would have to nerf basically every single class in some way and even then all that would do is tip the scales in some classes' favor.

Note that this isn't some sort of attempt to convince anyone to also quit the game. I'm really just trying to write down my own thoughts as a some sort of a final nail in the coffin. If you still enjoy this game then I envy you, but I just can't get the same kind of enjoyment...not anymore.

TL;DR I have made peace with the fact that this game isn't going in a direction I want it to and I'm tired of having to hope every single expansions and rotation that maybe things are going to be different this time around and always being disappointed.

Initially I wanted to go for a really melodramatic approach of dusting my entire collection and then spending said dust on crafting all my faavourite cards from the past in golden as sort of a memorial, but I don't even have the motivation for that anymore. I'll just let the account rot.

I do feel kind of sad about the fact that I won't really be interacting with you people anymore, because this site  has a pretty neat community and I've always enjoyed posting here. I guess you can take this as my final farewell. Perhaps digital card games just aren't my thing.

Maybe some day the stars align and we're blessed with some sort of meta that recaptures what the old days were like...but right now I can't see that happening until this entire year has rotated.

I believe most of you saw an increase in players Roping in your matches... So, I believe I found a bug.

Everyday, the very first time I use any Discover effect, the options simply... Don't show. Which causes roping because I can't do anything else before the Discover mechanic is accomplished, which causes a wasted turn.

It's important to note this also happens with Discover effects from Battlegrounds, like when you drop a golden minion in play.

Has anyone else seem this?

Those that keep clicking the yellow kite on the Panderia board until it goes away and those that leave it flapping around like the idiots they are who are bad at life.

Has anyone noticed golden animations missing some of the layers in this last expansion?
I've noticed it more bluntly in Pen Flinger, Tour Guide and Teacher's Pet

Now I have to explain this, but it is something that seems like it can't just be a coincidence.

After opening my initial packs in Scholomance I had opened a bunch of golden rares (about 5 total). Now I never keep golden rares because I don't like to waste extra dust, however, with the no duplicate rule it makes it so a golden rare counts to the limit, meaning you won't be able to open normal copies until after you've collected all the rares in the set. This, I thought, would mean that there is very little chance of getting the non-golden rares from packs to be able to disenchant the golden ones.

However, today I opened my ranked rewards and for some reason I got all of the remaining non-golden rares from the Scholomance set (I had previously opened my last missing one a few days ago). Essentially, what I believe to be the case is that there is a seperate no-dupe counter for your non-golden cards that will go into effect once you've opened all rares of a set and will prioritize all cards that you don't own 2 non-golden copies of. I assume this also applies to commons and epics (and legendaries I guess).

Was this ever explicitly stated? Because regardless it's a very nice QoL feature for those who want to maximize dust and don't care about goldens.

UGh!  It's that time again when we have to look at our collection and see what we are missing and what we have an abundance of and think to ourselves if a nerf is coming.

Not going to lie. I kept the majority of the cards that I felt would be problematic in the current meta and dusted the rest.  The good/bad of this is that I have some dust that I am ready to use and get a couple of the cards that I really really want in both wild and standard formats.  

Now this is where I am stuck and wonder what direction I should choose:

1) should I say to hell with it and dust the remaining items I have surpluses of to make some of the cards I want/need?

2) hold out in hopes that Blizz will make their nerf targets known as soon as possible so that we can start planning on what we are going to do?

What is everyone else doing?

If they dont want to help you on some matter they will just ignore you few times with some autoreplies that are not even related to your problem and after that youll get warning that you will be perma banned for trying to ask something!!!

I was already banned for trying to find out why my pitty times was not working and now im trying to find out what i logic behind that.

Anyone else just wanna cry when you re-roll a daily quest and get Inspired?  Ugh...20 hero power uses....*sigh*

Playing Kingsbane Rogue I discovered that Secret Passage will cause Shadow Reflection from Valeera the Hollow to not leave your hand at the end of your turn. Furthermore the Shadow Reflections becomes a reflection of Secret Passage. I think it is because the Shadow Reflection returns from the ‘passage’ after your turn ends so the hero power doesn’t remove it at the end of your turn.

This gives you an extra shadow reflection next turn OR infinite secret passages (one every turn if Its the first card you play each turn).

No idea if this is of any use in some weird combo deck? Probably not but it’s a weird interaction anyway

So back in the day I enjoyed Toast's content before he started losing interest in HS and was only doing it for a source of income. However, I just saw a Toast video pop up in my YT about toast being on some dating show and thought it was pretty random. So for any Toast fans out there, what does he even do nowadays on YT?

TL;DR - Does Discover give every card an equal probability of being displayed?

When the Discover effect was changed to "not favor class cards", I just naively assumed that every available card had an equal probabiltiy of being shown as an option. 

For example, Primordial Explorer gives you the option of 3 dragons and there are currently 20 Neutral Dragons and 2 Hunter class Dragons in Standard (not counting Primoridal Explorer itself given the recent change).  Without thinking about it, I just assumed that the probability of getting say Rotnest Drake was 1/22 for the 1st discover option, 1/21 for the 2nd discover option, and 1/20 for the 3rd discover option (I don't remember ever getting the same Dragon shown twice, but if that's possible then the probability would be 1/22 for each option).  

However, this video was randomly recommended to me on YouTube today (had never heard of them before) and I gave it a listen.  The hyperlink skips to the 43:45 mark where an argument is made that Discover instead works as a 2-stage gamble so-to-speak.  For each of the 3 options there's a 1/2 probability that the card will be drawn from the Neutral Pool or the Class Pool.  After this, another die is rolled where every card in the respective pool has an equal probability of being displayed (without replacement).

So in the example above the probability of Rotnest Drake would be 25% for each of the 3 discover options (50% to be a class card and then 50% to be Rotnest Drake given that it's a class card).  Is this really the case??

Just played a game where my Mugurgle Prime produced two Murgurs. Pretty sure that should fall into line of cards not generating themselves.

Saw Lt. Eddy Raw play the Deck on Stream and it looked fun and also did pretty decent. I always liked the Idea about Big Demon Hunter so i wanted to share the Deck - i'll definitely gonna try this deck this weekend.

Ideas on how to improve the deck are pretty welcome!

I was playing some Galakrond priest deck, so I generate randomly 2 copies of Shadowy Figure. On other side I get Bandersmosh from Brightwing. At this point i could play a Rattlegore from a transformed Bandersmosh, so it was a 5/5 minion and copy it with both Shadowy Figure (2/2 copies).

What happen was that after killing both Shadowy Figure transformed into the Rattlegore, was summon an 8/8 Rattlegore instead of a 1/1.

Now I understant that Rattlegore works checking the original card and not the original stats of the minion, but seems a bit confusing.

Hello, it is I again, world renowned writer of the award winning thread I think I fixed Quest Hunter and creator of the critically acclaimed deck Hey now, you're a Zixor (results may vary). Now I'm usually not one to abuse the forums to promotes my half baked homebrews (that's a lie, I have done that quite a lot, but I'm trying to stop), but this is a very special occasion.

Now the backstory is that after trying (and achieving mild success) to build a functional Quest Hunter deck for this expansion I eventually was inspired by fellow user Pezman to incorporate the whacky King Krush, Beastmaster Leoroxx, and Ramkahen Wildtamer combo as a finisher. Despite being technically promising the deck kind of fell short in terms of consistency, mainly because having 4 combo pieces in a Hunter deck that starts off with one less card doesn'T really work too well when you're already struggling to fight for the board and stay alive.

Disappointed by own failures but not willing to give up yet I was trying to find other ways to incorporate the Krush combo (in the process of which I ended up crafting all remaining Hunter legendaries of the current rotation, don't ask). I ended up brainstorming a way to just leave out the quest and use bothArcane Fletcher and Professor Slate as a way to create a deck that both has the draw power of Quest Hunter (who can use Cult Master quite well) as well as the ability to actually deal with the board and not just taking face damage every single turn.

Naturally, Pen Flinger seemed like a natural fit having great cross synergy with both the small spells and Fletcher. Furthermore, Krolusk Barkstripper seemed to make sense as well, especially since it counters the many "I make big minion and you lose" strategies that currently prevail. I filled the rest of the deck with 1-cost minions and all the useful 1-mana spells I could find.

Now I going in I had basically no expectations. I fully expected to just brick every other game and barely even compete. In short, I expected complete failure...but that didn't happen.

For some reason and through what can only be explained as an unholy miracle brought about by the powers of an eldritch god of chaos and confusion...I actually won games...and not just a few cheesy steals...legitimate beatdowns against meta decks. I'm not even sure how exactly it works, but there is just so much cross synergy in this deck that not only do you have a clear plan to victory in almost every matchup, but also just enough consistency to make it work with a +50% margin.

I'm not gonna tell you how to exactly play this deck because it's so much more fun going in blind and seeing it work for no reason in particular, but let me just sum up a few things:

- Pen Flinger is the absolute MVP. That fella puts in so much work, from removal to straight up murdering opponents from 10 health. He basically does what Vereesa Windrunner couldn't and more.

- The Krush combo is essentially just a failsafe. I have won plenty games without even playing Leoroxx or Krush (and also won some where I did play them, sometimes independantly from each other). Don't play like a regular combo deck, play like a  burn/tempo deck trying to get in as much chip damage as you can. At the end of the day, Leo + a single Krush + Hero Power is 10 damage.

-Ramkahen Wildtamer was a dead draw in the Quest build, but here it's not only a combo piece but a value generator as well. Don't hold onto it if Krush is nowhere near. If you can copy something like a buffed [Hearthstone Card (Krolusk) Not Found], Wolpertinger or even just a Shimmerfly you're already doing well. The combo is only needed against control decks (such as Priest, Warrior, and the occasional Quest Shaman). Be careful not to accidentally hit the token from Adorable Infestation though

-Arcane Fletcher is your draw power, but, much like Cult Master, don't be afraid to just draw 2 cards (or even 1, depending on your situation). The key is being just greedy enough to not fall behind.

So anyways, after much hype, here's the list. While I believe there are still some potential improvements possible this is pretty much my finalized list. There aren't really any cards that need replacing. It's not gonna get any more consistent than this. Do note that first and foremost this is a fun deck. Don't craft any of these cards if you're short on dust expecting to get a nice winstreak to Legend. You can climb with it, but it mostly exists to confuse your opponent and make them question how in god's name they could have lost against this deck.

I'm growing  bored with Runeterra.  I don't play ladder, Labs is incredibly random, and Expedition mode is, IMO, like Arena but worse.  That leaves Casual play, which is sometimes fun, but I have more Shards than I know what to do with and could craft enough Champions to have 3x of every existing one.  I've max leveled every region, and I'm just growing bored and frustrated with the mechanics and how much decks rely on a single Champion.

How is HS these days?  I haven't played in probably a year, but I've still watched my favorite streamers.  Battlegrounds looks really fun - is it free or do you have to pay?  How's the deck variety in regular play?  I do like what they've done with Ranked.  Playing LoR has made me really appreciate a lot of the mechanics of HS, believe it or not.

It's always bothered me that I couldn't find a single source for Hearthstone's card and hero sounds. So, as someone trying to learn how to code, I built one as my first significant project!

I spent most of the last couple months extracting and mapping the game sounds for each card and hero - Scholomance Academy included.

The site includes every play, attack, death, trigger, and entrance sound for each minion where applicable - including tokens and other non-collectible cards. The heroes and hero cards have all their available gameplay (thinking, out of cards, out of time, etc.), emotes, errors, and holiday voice lines. Any special interactions between cards and heroes are mapped in as well.

It's best viewed on non-mobile devices at the moment, but I plan on improving this for smaller screens in the future.

So, there is this survey that has been going around about a Battlepass that may replace gold gained from quests with an experience system. The short version of it is:

1) no more quests/gold per 3 wins
2) you receive experience through game modes that reward less gold and packs than you would usually grind for
3) disables you from saving 8000+ gold for an expansion launch
4) grant hero skin upgrades (which have little value compared to cards/gold/dust)

The worry is that this system is put in place to look like value is retained (like the AMA claimed) but the rewards themselves are worth less. If you gain less packs when the expansion launches and only earn some over the next months, these packs are worth less. Instead you are pushed to buy packs with real money to keep up with a meta.

We're ~4 months away from the achievement system reveal and I wanted to get everyone's feel for what they think (or predict) some of the achievements and rewards will be. I've thought of three so far.

Not So Common: Win 100 Standard Ranked games with only Common rarity cards.
- Reward: 10 classic packs.

A Deck For Everyone: Win 100 Standard or Wild Ranked games with only neutral cards.
- Reward: 10 classic packs.

(Insert Class here) Expert: Win 100 Standard or Wild Ranked games with only class cards.
- Reward: 10 (Insert Class here) Packs.
