Competition Theme: First Day Of School
It's the first day of school! You're going to need to get to grips with the absolute basics of your class, so let's start with a simple assignment.
- You must create a 1-Cost Common Class minion
- To be clear: You must create a minion that costs (1), is Common, and is a Class card (not Neutral)
- Your card cannot be a Dual Class card
- It's the first day of school, that's way too advanced! Maybe wait a week.
Welcome back everyone! We're easing in slowly with a nice simple competition this time - but even the simplest prompts can be tricky to master.
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.
Competition Phases
Here are the phases of this card design competition

Welcome to the site!
New season, let's go!
She's training to become a Druid, although she still hasn't mastered the shifting part.
Hell yeah! Hyped for the new season! Taking some advice from KANSAS' suggestion thread, I'll try only showing one card at a time.
I wanted to further push Zoo/Tempo Deathrattle Priest since I was dissapointed that neither took off despite all the support they got. I enjoy the flavor of a student coming across the real deal with Scholomance and will likely try to continue iterating on the theme if the current effect isn't to people's liking. The flavor of the effect is a bit off, but the idea is that the student found out the secrets of Raise Dead that the school was hiding. I was also somewhat dissapointed with how boring Frazzled Freshman was and wanted to make something more interesting.
I'm looking forward to how everyone else takes this weeks contest theme!
Hooray! New season!
Do you think the ability is too much? Is the flavor good enough?
@Demonxz95, I really like it. Usually that ability is only on Legendaries, so it feels a bit weird. But Murmuring Elemental exists, so that argument isn't really valid.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Hey, thanks. I'm already super excited for the season.
If I understand the flavor right, you hit something and if it kills it, you feast on it? Specifically "it" being the fish? A 1 mana 1/3 that deals 1 damage is particularly strong, although it's not outrageous compared to other 1 mana 1/3s that exist and the 2 extra Health is conditional, so I'm willing to say that it's balanced.
Yay for a new season :)
Witchwood Apple. I tried to capture two different things here: she's a horticulture teacher so there's bound to be some food involved, and there's the whole "give an apple to your teacher" vibe. Maybe we can reinvigorate the Hand Druid.
That's a word I've never heard before.
I will say it may be slightly weird for a card to generate something at a time when the generated card in question would be Wild only since examples don't really exist. Ball of Spiders was able to generate Webspinners after Naxxramas rotated out, although the card was made before yearly rotations existed.
Otherwise though, it looks good and you've got the flavor nailed.
When exploring fel, don't read aloud text written in Eredun.
So excited for a new season!
Demon hunters have a lot of energy, but they could use some improvements in technique.
Demonxz95
I like it. It's possible to make it 2 health, since it only works with a specific subset of cards and you can't take advantage of the effect on turn 1. It reminds me of Blackjack Stunner in a weird way.
BloodMefist
It feels weird that it can keep giving copies of itself if it's the only minion that died. I also think it makes it harder to build-around since it can get your opponent's stuff, making more a value card like Disciple of Galakrond rather than Raise Dead.
KANSAS
Card and design are solid. Admittedly, the art feels more Uldum than Un'goro to me. Also, there's a comma is missing between 'dies' and 'gain'.
linkblade91
Love the flavor! Would probably struggle to find a home in standard but it could work in wild.
R
I think it would be more exciting if the card discovered any Warlock spell, not just basic and classic. The pool is small and it feels bad to be offered Sacrificial Pact and Sense Demons all the time.
Obvious synergy with Flesh Giant but can also work in Quest Warlock to fetch the Malygos or other top end of your deck.
Thought I might give one of these a go. The idea behind the flavor is that you as a mage teach a spell to a class of young apprentices and the ace apprentice is the first one to learn it, showing you her exam results by adding the spell to your hand. Since this cannot generate you a spell if played on its own but the spell is targeted rather than random, the card's stats are no better than Babbling Book. Compared to Diligent Notetaker, I don't think the effect should be too strong for 1 less mana.
Demonxz95 - Very very cool design, but I think that it should cost at least 2 mana.
BloodMefist - She can most likely return herself to her hand with her death throat. Interesting.
KANSAS - Good card, pretty strong at the beginning of the game.
linkblade91 - Maybe if the hand druid was viable.
grumpymonk - Good "board clear" for DH with weapons.
Cg8889 - I do not know. 1 mana card that takes a "specific" card.
frosthearth - Maybe too strong for 1 mana because it gives not a random card, but the last card
Oh, it feels good to be back.
She'll help you learn how to Spellburst! Good for draws and Libram decks.
Feedback time:
Demonxz95: I like it, but I feel like that would make more sense at 2 mana.
BloodMefist: Fits with Scholomance mechanics and good effect, I like it. Although I'd either come up with a more serious name or find sillier artwork, there's some dissonance in the flavor there.
KANSAS: I don't know, it seems too powerful and doesn't feel very Shaman-y.
linkblade91: Interesting. Witchwood Apple might make more sense now with the increased Treant support.
R: I'm not feeling it, unless it was a dual-class card it doesn't make sense for one class to get cards from another. Also it seems weird to limit it to just the basic and classic sets.
grumpymonk: I really like the flavor of it, but maybe it should be a Battlecry or Outcast effect for one turn, since this could be VERY powerful if used with the right cards.
Cg8889: I think it works, just rephrase it to "the highest Cost minion" to bring it in line with Expired Merchant.
frosthearth: It's pretty powerful, maybe change it to just a spell you played this turn instead of the last spell to make it a bit trickier to play and less consistent.
-Hordaki (rhymes with Mordecai)
Check out the Tactician custom class!
Unfortunately, this would disqualify the card, so I can't do this.
R - A decent card balanced by the fact that Warlock spells are not really the greatest and randomly generating them (even through Discover) is weaker than something like Mage for instance. Basic and Classic should both be capitalized though and I think the cross-Discovering is a bit weird since it's just a class card that Discovers a card from a different class. It's not like Wand Thief which is a dual-class card that Discovers a card from one of its classes and allows the other to benefit from Burgle synergy, and tri-class cards from MSoG which Discover from one of the three classes. I feel like it could just be a Warlock card that Discovers a spell. I don't feel like Mage would want to generate Warlock spells very much.
Hordaki - It's nice to see you make that "tutor" joke with drawing when Team 5 missed that opportunity (dammit Wretched Tutor). At first glance, it doesn't look blatantly Paladin-y, but it's not too bad in the slightest. The effect is pretty decent and also fits well with High Abbess Alura both flavorfully and mechanically.
That fresh Hearthcards smell... it's good to be back! A simple one to start us off, but I'm still thinking up some alternate ideas...
Quick run of feedback:
Demonxz - I really like this one. It's a good effect and fits well thematically.
Bloodmefist - No issues with this one either!
KANSAS - I do like this one, but a part of me feels it could be better as a rare? It should be fine though.
linkblade - This one is my favourite so far, but then again I love some Treants, so I'm a tad biased...
R - Really cool effect... but a similar issue to KANSAS where it's a bit *too* special. Still very good though.
grumpymonk - This card is honestly too powerful. Not necessarily a bad thing, but a cheap card with a strong effect AND good stats? It needs a slight tone-down.
cg - I don't really know how to feel about this one... it feels too strong to be a common no matter which way you spin it.
frosthearth - It's just OK. I'm not particularly fond of it, but it's not bad.
Hordaki - Very well-done card and one that I could easily see printed. Also, I see what you did with the name ;)

Nice to be back. I made a simple card, a callback to the ogres that we didn't get since Rastahkan. But I fear it is too simple, or not good enough, since it can also attack friendly characters, for only a +1 from [Hearthstone Card (Battlemage) Not Found]. Maybe add taunt? Or scrap the design alltogether? What do you think?
Will give feedback soon.
Round 2, FIGHT!
Before explaining the card, let me share something really quickly. I'm right now creating a whole custom expansion, and i was pretty sure that at least 1 out of the 54 cards i've already made would fit the theme, and turns out, there is one card that fits! But sadly, it uses the exclusive keyword of the expansion, so i can't submit it... i got a little pissed, won't lie, but the show must continue.
Back to the card, the idea is to represent a black cat that brings bad luck to you, but since he's your pet, he throws the bad luck to your opponent. I was thinking of making it a deathrattle to add extra flavour, but i want a second opinion, so share your thoughts with the class, NOW! Feedback later as always.
And btw, here's the card i was talking about, i won't give more spoilers, in time you know what the keyword means
Do you also like Elden Ring? Then you should check out my Elden Ring inspired Duels Heroes!
Yay, card contests! My first idea, and I’ll give some feedback later. Hope this isn’t too complicated for a Common 1-drop.
I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.

Horticulture Teacher: 1/3 add a weak 2mana card to you hand, which is rotated out. Seems fair in a weak way. I’m not really a fan since I see no deck to play it, and teachers as 1mana cards are weird too. Since I’m not an English native speaker: what does “give an apple to your teacher” mean?
@R
@grumpymonk
Glaive Trainer: Good statline, and a great upside. Yes, powercreep and DH’s superiority are a thing, but this is too much. It should be a rare (which is not allowed, I know), or a 1/1, or a 1/2 with the effect as a battlecry.
@Cv8889
@frosthearth
@Hordaki
Tiny Tutor: She’s so cute! 1 mana add a random x to your hand is quite usual, given Spellburst this evens out the draw.

Responding to feedback:
I wasn't really too sure about the set symbol, and I also wasn't sure if there was supposed to be a comma there or not. Thanks for the feedback, I will change both of those things.
This has +2 Health from Elven Archer but it is also conditional and a class card, so I think it is fine. As for flavor, it is a murloc and a battlecry card. Granted it doesn't have much Shaman flavor beyond that, but I don't really know what to do about that.
My initial impulse was to make it a rare, but alas that is impossible. I do think it is fine though since Mortal Coil is a basic card.
(I was afraid this might happen) We don't have to make Scholomance themed cards. We just have to make common, class 1-cost cards.
Feedback:
Bloodmefist: I really like it. The resurrect mechanic is cool, albeit super annoying, but when it is attached to a small minion then now you have a dud minion in your resurrect pool, making it less frustrating. 5-stars.
Linkblade91: I love it! I am a big fan of small cards that add more cards to your hand. I might reduce the Health to 2 though since it is providing so much value.
R: It feels a bit weird having this in the same set as Wand Thief (Though I am willing to ignore that). I really like the flavor of the student being corrupted and using dark magic. I do think it should be a 1/1. Look at the aforementioned Wand Thief, it is a 1 mana card available to Mage that discovers a spell and it is a 1/2. However, this is a Battlecry and that is a Combo, so 1/1 makes sense to me.
grumpymonk: I really like it. However making your Hero Power a Shooting Star may be a bit much. I would change it to a 1/2 just to be safe.
Cg8889: I really like the ability, but I would change the name since "Dark Arts Sacrifice" feels like the name of a spell. You could change it to something like "Sacrifice Victim". Also the art is slightly fuzzy. I looked a bit and couldn't find any Scholomance art that fit your card. You don't have to make your card Scholomance themed, so if you are worried about the art then you could just re-flavor it to be Old Gods or Frozen Throne or something like that. I do really really like the ability though, so definitely stick with that.
frosthearth: The card is interesting, but it feels a bit too much like Diligent Notetaker. I would make it a deathrattle so that way you have to plan ahead of time to play the right spell, and your opponent can choose to leave it alive so that you might cast a different spell. Also, I am afraid of Miracle/Quest Mage in wild getting an easy way to copy their spells. I would hate for my opponent to play Sorcerer's Apprentice, Flamewaker, an then 8 copies of Ray of Frost.
Hordaki: I love it. Paladins deserve more draw, and tutors are always fun to play. I don't think it is too powerful of a tutor since you have to have a spell initially to draw another one so you can't reliably draw one single spell every game. I would give it 5-stars.
Conduit: Demon Hunters don't have beast synergy. It would be weird for them to get this one card that cares about Beasts and nothing else. Nobody would make a Beast Demon Hunter just to get this one card. You could give it to hunter and it would be fine, but I don't know what Demon Hunters would do with this.
anchorm4n: I love tutors, but as a 1/3 I think it provides too much tempo in addition to value. You could make it a 1/1 and it would be fair.
Elfensilver: I think you could make it say random enemy and it wouldn't be too OP. 1 mana 2/2 is fair, so 1 mana 3/2 is only slightly above average. Having your own 1-drop kill your 2-drop would feel just awful. I do really like to see the return of the "Ogre" mechanic though.
MrRhapsody: This is really weird. How many effects in mage target random characters? There are things like Magic Missiles and Magic Missiles++, but those things already target enemies. You could change it to target a single character and the next random effect has to target that one character, but that feels like it could be an epic. I really like the theme of a black cat giving you bad luck, but this card feels like a bit too much.
thepowerofcheese: I really like it. The flavor is strong, the card is strong, I really like the use of overload. All around great card.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
FYI - Scholomance Academy isn't an option to select from when choosing the expansion in the pull down tab when submitting a card.
You don't get it, its ANY random target. Let's say you draw a Scroll of Wonder and it casts a Fireball, if you played a Luck Shifter last turn, the Fireball will target an enemy, got it? But yeah, maybe it's a little to much, i liked the "choose an enemy" suggestion, i'll think about.
And now the feedback:
Demonxz: I like it a lot, but i think it would be more flavourful if it combined only the effects of minions, since the cards that actually shapeshift are Druid minions.
BloodMefist: In general i like, except for the art and fact that it may go infinite, i'm pretty sure it wasn't your intencion, so i suggest adding "Another" after the "Add" and changing the art.
KANSAS: Good abillity and even better flavour, loved it.
linkblade: Nice effect but the flavour could be better. Why would the teacher give you an apple? Speacially an apple that attracts evil treants. What about making it something like a student pranking the teacher by giving a twisted apple to the teacher? (you, in this case)
R: I don't the fact that it generates a Warlock card, even if it fits the flavour. Most spells generators from mage nowadays specifically generates a Mage spell, making a mage card that generates a warlock card fells weird. Also, the stats, cost and effect doesn't match, i suggest either make it a 2 mana 1/1 that discover a Basic Mage spell; or a 2 1/1 for warlock.
grumpymonk: I would like it more if Odd DH wasn't a thing, but sadly it is, so i suggestion either making it a 1/1 or 1/2; or make the effect a Battlecry that only triggers once.
Cg8889: I like it, powerful but broken, nice effect and flavour, just put the same art with a higher resolution or a completetly new one and you're good to go.
frosthearth: Cool flavour and effect, but i'm not sure about the balance . In wild, this could be BROKEN in Quest Mage, if you could come with something that don't support it i would like your card a lot more.
Hordaki: Very cool effect, flavour, art, name, etc. Loved it.
Conduit: Not a fan of it. If it was half hunter half Dh i would like, but dual class is forbidden. I'll wait for your other ideas, but for now, i suggest to switch the Beast synergy with Demons.
anchorm4n: Very similar to Hordaki's card, but with a diferent flavour and more Health. I sujest only to reduce the Health a bit, but in general i loved it too.
Elfensilver: Loved it except for the art, change it and you're done.
thepowerofcheese: I like it, reminds me of [Hearthstone Card (Intrepid Iniciate) Not Found] but more powerful. The balance seens on point and the effect is very flavourful, good job.
Do you also like Elden Ring? Then you should check out my Elden Ring inspired Duels Heroes!
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Most people seemed to like the card, so I only made minimal adjustments to it. It can now no longer return itself if it is your only minion that died. A lot of comments regarded the art/name, so I have two different versions that I want to run by people. The first keeps the art but changes the name to something more fitting while the second uses a lighter art to fit the name "Nosy Newbie".

Nah.
You see, an experienced shifter has perfect control over the two effects and is perfectly able to separate them, only combining the two together when they want to and they've learned the proper method to do so. An inexperienced shifter on the other hand hasn't properly learned how to separate the two effects yet, so they end up accidentally using both of them at the same time.
This should be fixed now.

Feedback? Not used to making common cards and not sure what their power level should be.

I really like the design, but I am afraid of giving druids the extra Moonfires. If you have 2 of these, 2 moonfires, and a malygos you could deal 24 damage with zero mana cheating and virtually no setup. Maybe if it dealt 2 damage instead of adding a Moonfire to your hand?
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Haha, fair enough. Don't need to give them too much more amo. I was just thinking of it because Moonkin and Moonfire are tied closely together in the game and lore, but I see your point.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
Since you cannot make it cost 2 mana, you could consider making it only affect choose one minions, since the real danger with the card is with spells. Minion choose one effects are more tame because some of the mana goes into stats, and hence getting both is a lot more reasonable for 1 mana than spells.
Better?

I missed these now I can give no feedback and make overloaded cards again! Nah I'll give feedback it just won't be very good.
Feedback Only for this page:
BloodMefist: I can't really think of anything you could improve upon. My personal preference for art is the first one since it gives the feeling of he found out about the necromantic stuff going on
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
Thanks for the feedback! However, I might scrap the current card for something new, as I don’t really like it and the general consensus seems somewhat lukewarm....
:)
Interesting, it's like Weasel Tunneler + Leper Gnome. I like the concept, though I feel like in reality it wouldn't bounce around too much. If you want to lean further on the Weasel Tunneler side of the card then I would keep it as it is, but if you want to have a lot of back-and-forth damage then I would make it go into your opponent's hand, or directly onto their side of the field.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Good news: since I failed to register in time for my bachelors degree, I can participate in this week's competition :')
Here's my first idea (with a typo I'll fix later):
On it's own, it's a Murloc Tidehunter with reversed stats. But it can get as big as a 6/7 on a full board of Recruits. Still, I think the amount of set up required makes it balanced. It's a lot more crazy in wild, where he can get as big as a 10/11 with [Hearthstone Card (Bran Bronzebeard) Not Found], a 3/4 on 3 with 3 1/1s in Odd Pally and/or with Lost in the Jungle and Air Raid, not to mention cards like Muster for Battle and Stand Against Darkness.

OK, here comes my idea:
Beast Companions are Misha, Leokk and Huffer, of course.
Alternatives I considered are:
1 mana 2/1 - same effect
1 mana 1/1 - Spellburst: Discover a Beast Companion.
What do you think?
I choose this because of the following reasons:
1, Represents an underrepresented WoW faction - Wildhammer Dwarf. So far in Hearthstone there is only 1 collectible card that could be considered a Wildhammer - Untamed Beastmaster.
2, It works for the possible Companion Archetype - unexplored hunter design space, one that I would like to see.
Feedback:
Demonxz95 - Inexperied Shifter - nice card, the art fits very well the effect and it is simple enough to be a common card. I would not change anything about it.
BloodMefist - Nosy Newbie - An alright card, the original art looks maybe too dark for Hs. I would go with the second one.
KANSAS - Bluegill Fisher - Hits and eats, nice flavorful and balanced, in my opinion.
linkblade91 - Hoticulture Teacher - 1/3 that guarantees a turn 2 play is a little bit much for me. 1/2 might be more in line. Altough if you realy want to push an old archetype back (Which I approve of) it is quite possible okay.
R - Accursed Pupil - 1 mana 2/1 unconditional Discover is definitely too strong. Some condition should be implemented. But the flavor is quite good.
grumpymonk - Glaive Trainer - This effect should not exist as a passive on a DH 1 - drop. Maybe as a 2/1 with Battlecry for this turn only.
Cg8889 - Dark Art Sacrifice - Already published so I do not think any feedback is necessary. My only suggestion would be a name change, which you did.
frosthearth - Ace Apprentice - Probably balanced, but I not like the idea of more Devolving Missiles or Ray of Frost generated from this.
Hordaki - Tiny Tutor - Already published so I do not think any feedback is necessary. Draw is something Paladin could use more. Condition balances it quite well.
Conduit - Fel Kitten - Encourages building a different DH just as a standalone card. Nice, I like it.
anchorm4n - Archwitch's Apprentice - 1/2 would work better I think. Especialy since Warlock already got one 1/3 in Scholomance.
Elfensilver - Nearsighted Bully - Only wrong enemies should work well enough. Friendly possible targets make this too weak.
MrRhapsody - Luck Shifter - Maybe a too complicated for a common. 1/3 is not a fiiting statline in my opinion.
thepowrofcheese - Accident-Prone Apprentice - I think it is balanced, just the name seem weird to me.
GoliathTheDwarf - Moonking Hatchling - Already published so I do not think any feedback is necessary. Nice simple and relatively strong card.
MenacingBagel - Explosive Learner - I do not much like this design. I do not know how to adjust it to my liking though. :)
Nirast - Silver Hand Trainer - It goes for too much for a common 1 drop I think. At minimum it is a 2/3 worth of stats. Also the should probably be then, i think. A 1/1 that buffs itself for each recruit should work just fine in my opinion.
Thanks for the feedback! Before I add my two cents to the new cards, I'd like to get something off my chest: I'm disappointed. Imho, we've made huge progress when it comes to giving feedback after that shoutout last season. But. The biggest part of the people I consider the pros in custom card design have been following a certain pattern since last season: they post within the first few hours of the competetion, give feedback among themselves and whoever happens to be awake (here goes the European whining again) AND have a great idea AND the time to post it and then they disappear. It's people like Linkblade and Demon that clearly have the most experience in this and honestly I'm disappointed you don't dish it out more often. It would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback.
I too tend to like the 2/1 statline more.
As for the name - how about a Petcaller or Novice Petcaller? It would be more flavorful, I guess.
I'll try to enlargen the card text to have 1 more word on the line. Unique, but welcomed opinion.
I can't speak for Demon of course, but I personally have had some IRL problems that have kept me from participating this week. Depression hits me harder some weeks more than others, and this is one of those weeks.
Here you go, as requested:
Ardin - I would also make it a 2/1. "Petcaller" sounds fine.
Nirast - I think the effect and statline are fine, but it doesn't seem like a Common to me. This is at least a Rare in complexity :(
MenacingBagel - I like Explosive Learner, but you should switch the effects around in the text: deal the damage, then shuffle.
GoliathTheDwarf - Yes, that is better. Seems good to go.
BloodMeFist - I prefer Horrified Apprentice's art and name; the flavor shouldn't be "lighter" in my opinion.
thepowrofcheese - I'm worried about Coin-ing out a strong 3-mana minion turn-1, but there are numerous bad 3-drops so I guess it's okay. The 3 Health means it can easily trade into something first, and that could be a problem (since the transform will "heal" it).
MrRhapsody - It doesn't specify when this happens, so "next" could mean multiple turns from now. I can see a FeelsBad moment where both players forget about this effect for a couple turns, and then suddenly it bites your opponent in the butt because some card four turns ago screwed them over. Not saying it's a deal-breaker, but it wouldn't be fun if that happened.
Elfensilver - Taunt doesn't jive with the character, so I wouldn't add that. I think it's fine as-is: saying "wrong enemy" instead is probably too strong.
anchorm4n - I think your card is perfect as-is, and I wouldn't change anything about it. I really like it.
Conduit - Seems like a Battlegrounds-worthy card to me haha. It's pretty straight-forward, and encourages developing a board. It might be a bit on the weak side, though.
Hordaki - My other favorite card, I think this is just fine as it is. The Paladin could really use something like this (well maybe not right now, because they're in a good place, but card draw is never unwanted).
frosthearth - Ace Apprentice seems a bit strong, given the card is guaranteed to be the last spell you played. What if it said "random spell you played this turn"? That would keep it the same if you only played one spell, but if you rattle off a bunch now there's some chance involved.
Cg8889 - I believe it should be formatted as "Draw the minion in your deck with the highest Cost." It's on a Deathrattle so that lack of speed certainly helps balance the card. I still wonder if it's on the strong side, given you know exactly what you're tutoring.
grumpymonk - I like it, but it takes away from the core strength of Flamereaper. Seems a little early to print its replacement on a 1-mana Common.
R - Basic and Classic should be capitalized. That being said, I don't know if I like it. The flavor is interesting, but should the Mage have access to cards like Siphon Soul?
KANSAS - I would also move it to Ulduum (although where are you fishing in the middle of the desert lol?). Overall I think it's fine: I initially believed it was too good, but you explained yourself well and changed my opinion.
Demonxz95 - I've been on the fence for a while, but I think I might have to agree with Sinti's remarks in Discord. The flavor is still there and I think the card is solid, but at the same time it seems weird that an "inexperienced shifter" is being rewarded with both outcomes when they have little to no control over their ability *shrugs* Sounds more like it should say "Your next Choose One card has its effect chosen at random" or something like that, but then you'd have to give the Shifter better stats and that creates its own problems. I think leaving it as-is is perfectly fine.
@linkblade: I'm sorry to hear that and I wouldn't have chosen words so harsh if I had known the reasons for your silence. I wish you all the best. I'll send a virtual hug if you are okay with that. Thank you very much for your feedback (I did actually change the card a little by tuning it down to 1/1/2 because most people told me it was too strong).
@Ardin: if it was my card, I would manually set new paragraphs to solve the issue. Probably like this: "Battlecry: Add a / random Beast Companion / to your hand." Typing this, I realize that maybe it should say "Beast Companion card"... that would also eliminate the orphan without altering the font size.

I ended up submitting Horrified Apprentice since I feel like it fits the darker side of Scholomance better. Although some people said that the art/name is too dark, I bring up that Fleshgiant exists in the same set and has some pretty dark implications and art.

Holy shit, a lot has happened since I was gone yesterday.
Rapid-fire feedback time.
Elfensilver - Nearsighted Bully is a really funny card, although I think it being able to attack friendly characters makes it unplayable.
MrRhapsody - Nice effect. I don't feel like it's too egregious as a Common, but it does push the boundaries more than pretty much every other card so far. I don't put it against you though, and the card is good. A problem I do see is that most random effects only hit enemies anyway.
thepowrofcheese - I really like it.
MenacingBagel - It's like a more "explosive" Weasel Tunneler. Kinda cool.
Nirast - Flavorwise, it feels weird that the Trainer has less stats than what it's trying to train. On paper, it's always a 1/2 + a 1/1 for 1 mana. It seems like it might be too strong.
Ardin - Nice! I really like it. I'd say you could probably get away with making it a 1/2 or a 2/1.
I added an extra comma and changed the set to Uldum. I feel pretty confident in my card but I want to be sure it is as good as it can get before I submit it.
Someone asked how this would work with double Battlecry on a 1-health minion. I think it would kill it and get the +2 health twice since both Battlecries would happen before the minion dying is resolved. Maybe I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that is how it would work.
Some quick feedback:
Nirast:
Ardin:
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Based on all the feed back, here's the definitive version:
Way more versatile now, you can use to aim your Arcane Missiles on the minion you want to hit; or protect a specific friendly minion against Deadly Shot. Less stats, more versatile and easier to understand. The chosen minion would have an aura around it like Reborn to remember the players who's chosen target. All other possible doubts will be answered in the descripition.
Lightning speed feedback because time is short:
Goliath: I would prefer a 1/1 statline, but it's good as it is.
MenacingBagel: Very nice! My only suggestion is to remove the "your opponent" line for "them".
Nirast: I like it, but i think it is too much. What about a 1/1 that summons a recruit with Taunt or Divine Shield? (and btw, all hits of Dark Skies will hit the chosen minion now).
Ardin: Very cool, it's fine as it is IMO.

I picked some different art and a new name for my submission. Balance wise, I think it’s fine for Shaman to Coin or Lighting Bloom and get a 3-drop turn 1. Other classes can pull off crazier turn 1 plays. Plus Overload and terrible card draw limit their ability to push.
“He’s got nowhere to go but up! Unless he becomes a gnome. Or goblin. Or..”
KANSAS - If the Battlecry is duplicated, it will only kill with one of the pings, so it’ll only get 2 health. The doubled Battlecry just lets you kill 2-health targets. It’s a cute balanced card but not sure it will stand out much.
Mr. Rhapsody - Would this make all 3 Arcane Missiles hit the target, or just the first one? Cool card.
Arden - Love it. 2/1 or 1/2 statline might be fine, but I wouldn’t give it more than that, since the Companion has above average stats.
Nirast - A 1/2 and 1/1 on turn 1 is very strong, and it’s bonkers in an odd Paladin deck. There’s also no dude synergy in Scholomance so it’s not thematic.
I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.
Updated the card:
It's now K&C, has 1 Attack and doesn't summon another SHR.

KANSAS - I think you're good to go.
MrRhapsody - I guess it's fine as-is now. I'm still a little unsure of the card, but I can't articulate how exactly I feel.
thepowrofcheese - I like the new name a lot; this was a good change. Not sure if the art matches that 100%, but it would be hard to find something else.
Nirast - I like the new iteration. Still viable in an Odd Paladin deck, but requires some setup to grow into a threat.
Yeah, KANSAS, thepowrofcheese and Nirast you've all designed great cards! 4 or 5 stars candidates all of them!

Under three hours left to go in our first competition for Season 2. Submit 'em if you got 'em!
...which reminds me: I haven't submitted yet lol. Don't think mine is gonna do well, but I'm out of time *shrugs*
I've missed all the discussion this week, but managed to sneak an entry in just before close. I'll be more active next week, but it's looking like a strong start to the new season!
Why does Scourge Vanguard appear twice?
There's a typo in the name of one of them ("Scourage Vanguard"). I'd guess someone went to the lengths of creating a second account to correct this. Probably means DQ for both. Honestly, I wouldn't mind a ban from future competitions either, since participating (maybe even voting) with multiple accounts comes as close to cheating as you can get with this. We'll see what the referees say.

There are indeed two separate cards entered.
I have brought this up to the staff. I believe that even if this doesn't necessarily improve their chances of winning (as hypothetically, they should end up with nearly the same exact score), I believe a DQ is warranted here off of simply the intention of cheating.
Good luck to our finalists :)
Nice, made it to the finals! Good luck, everyone!
Good luck!
Let me light the way.

Congratulations on your first win, anchorm4n! :D
Demon's mistake of putting you on the Leaderboard was a short-lived one...relatively speaking lol.
My congratulations to anchorm4n!
Maybe sort the final table of points in descending order?
Congrats anchorm4n!
It's in descending order, there's just two different sections - finalists, which are sorted by their finalist score, and the rest of the entries, which are sorted by the initial score.
Welcome to the site!
Congrats idd!
