Two aspects about the *new* rank system

Submitted 3 years, 10 months ago by

Hey, just two comments about the ranking system I didn't hear anyone talk about much:

1) One small aspect: The fact that you don't get 10 gold after three wins leave you with coins you will never be able to use. I have 40 coins that once in a while turn to 90. It is an endless circle that will never turn to a- 100 (or 50) Gold that will allow me to purchase anything.

2) Second bigger issue: With the new system I am actually playing less.  Before, completing a quest you got an instant reward. 50, 60, 80, 100 gold, and so on. You actually felt that if you are going to fill your quest log and not play, you will miss on gold and you will not be able to get as many packs. Now, I am free to play, so this is a big thing for someone who wants to use the next expansion.
With the new system, I don't have that. I complete a quest, gives me a 1000 XP, and I still have 2000 XP more to go to get the next 100 gold, which I will get some time in the next three days. That removes the urgency of logging in.

It is great for other things I have to get done, like studies and work projects, and teach my kid some school stuff, but not good for a company that wants to get its login ratings up and not down.

Anyway, that is my experience, don't want to beat a dead horse, but just wanted to share a personal observation.

Enjoy the post-nerf wild, I will probably not get in to play before tomorrow.

Your point 1 has a small caveat. You can actually eventually* get it to a round number but only if you're willing to go through arena and heroic duels, of which the rewards can come in as small as 20g. So its not technically stuck at a useless number, just floating about until one day you get lucky.

Point 2 is largely personal. I used to complete everything once every 3 days, and sometimes I still do that, but that's not a metric us players should be concerned about. That's for blizz to get us to come in more often, and the switch to xp has not really changed my habits to be honest.

That seems ideal to me. Play hearthstone and maximize gains without much fuss AND get to live a life beyond it. I've never understood how some players outside of high legend can ever put more than 1.5 hours a day and not feel like they've been about as productive as a slug getting from one end to the other, but to each their own.

So I guess you're not alone. I'm also sitting with 45 extra gold since 2 years ago (I mean 5 extra gold, since before reward track), and still have 2 free tickets from the reward track.
I could've just play arena or duel, but I don't think I can do it in one run. I need more time to play arena, but I don't have that time.

That's why sometime, I throw Dean a tweet about adding 5 gold reward for every achievements, so that people become more interested in completing it.

But I'm getting pessimistic it would happen anyway since Dean himself stated that he doesn't see gold as a "fun" way to reward player. *shrugs*

Once you get above level 50, every level is 1200-1500 exp, so fulfilling a quest will get you a level or very close to getting a level

Login ratings are one thing, but building a game in such a way that supports a healthy work-life-gaming balance is also a plus point. Hearthstone has always let you hold onto quests for 3 days for precisely that reason. Ultimately, the people designing the game are normal people who also want a healthy balance, and they aren't going to be annoyed that their players do too.

You could do it over multiple gaming sessions. Nothing forces you to finish a run in 1 sitting.

I actually didn't know you can fix it by playing arena and duels. I have two unused passes I earned, so I will definitely give it a try. I can't remember when was the last time I actually played arena....
