Dean Ayala sat down with YingDi, a Chinese website, to talk about Hearthstone's Battlegrounds mode and had some news to share.
- Junkbot is moving to Tier 4 (was Tier 5).
- You can only get one triple per time with Khadgar/Brann (first summon all tokens, then make them triples).
- The next patch is arriving in "1 to 1.5 weeks". We're assuming this will arrive in the post-BlizzConline patch.
Additionally, Dean had some more comments on Battlegrounds.
- The response was initially good to the Darkmoon Prize system. Freshness has disappeared though.
- They want to make updates to Battlegrounds more frequently.
- If they change too many things at once, it can hurt the accessibility of the mode.
- They are developing additional new races.
These may not be the entire patch notes for the upcoming game update but we'll know more either at BlizzConline or when the patch notes are pushed around the time of the patch.
Thanks to ZelKnow for putting this on our radar.

I honestly think they should just remove Khadgar. He is really hard to build around as most of the time you aren't going to have enough room on the board. He may be more useful than I think, but in general he seems pretty useless.
I hope this does spell death for the Exodia builds. The endless tokens should just not happen.
I was hoping Brann would be removed entirely tbh.
Junkbot should be fine in Tier 4. It isn't going to be a carry as it was in the past because token builds are pretty bad nowadays. He will work fine as a transition and stabilization unit. And fixing Brann + Khadgar is highly appreciated.
I’m more interested in these “new races”. Aren’t Totems the only tribe not in BGs? Maybe Treants too, but they don’t have an official tribe tag.
So I’m curious... could they be adding things like “Undead”?! Possibly testing some new tribes and synergies for future expansions?! Or maybe even getting a new tribe in the next expansion?!
that's what I'm wondering, too.
After seeing what they did to Floating Watcher, I thought they'd give the same treatment to Junkbot which arguably needs it much more. Junkbot wasn't doing much and probably won't even if dropped to tier 4, but I'm not sure.
It's a good thing they're changing how Brann/Khadgar work. It's infuriating to play it when you don't hit your pieces and it's infuriating to play against it when someone else hits it. Though I am curious if they changed how tokens work, will Scallywag Exodia still work? Maybe I'm stupid or someone could elaborate it but with how tokens need to spawn first and they don't spawn more doesn't this mean that it won't summon an extra one even after one dies?
At tier 4 junkbot was in interesting spot. Where if you played mechs you didn't need to ugrade to 5
I'm pretty sure they're only changing how tokens work in the shop-phase (i.e. triples are formed after a battlecry resolves instead of during the battlecry) so Scallywag Exodia will probably still work.
I also expected Junkbot to be removed eventually so I'm surprised they moved it to tier 4 again. I actually think this is quite a big buff to mechs since Junkbot used to be really strong on tier 4, but maybe it'll be more balanced in the current version of Battlegrounds.
USED to be is the keything.
Are far crazier scaling builds/card then junkbot that dont need as much support or your minions to all die.
Fuck sake.
I'm done with Battlegrounds then. Bran/Khadgar is the only fun I have in that mode. Everything else got stale really quickly and I've only been playing since last november.
"Battlegrounds is stale" says the person who literally plays only one strategy.
Yeah, super balanced to scale normally and then run into a monster with 21 triples on turn 10 /s
A good step into getting rid of the deco/reco mechanic which is utterly stupid but that (almost) all top players are using because "oThEr PlAyErS dO iT".
Well thats another issue, It's still a thing with pirates
In what setup?
With hogger + Firewall cheat you can get your pirates to up to 400/400
That's a good change. That way they don't kill Brann Bronzebeard or Khadgar but deal with this big problem!
