Patch 20.0's notes came out during today's Forged in the Barrens final reveal stream and, as promised, we'll receive a balance change. To be precise, Nitroboost Poison will receive a cost increase, going up from 1 to 2 mana.
This change was accidentally leaked a few weeks ago, but we're quite surprised that this will be the only tweak going into the new expansion. The set rotation and the introduction of Barrens and Core will very likely shake up the meta, but we would've liked to see a couple more targets to be hit - maybe because they're overabundant in the current meta, maybe because they're quite frustrating to play against.
However, it is very likely that the devs decided to touch only the necessary and leave the rest as it is, only to intervene later on, which is a fair approach - in the end, Team 5 has shown to be quite reactive and definitely favorable to swift changes (if needed), so we're confident everything will turn out for the best.
Cost increased from 1 to 2 mana.
Quote From Dev Note We're moving Nitroboost Poison to 2 mana to reduce the amount of cheap burst damage available in Rogue and create a real cost for Corruption. When evaluating Rogue's future weapon-centric archetypes, we want to position the play patterns around building up a weapon over multiple turns and fighting for board rather than the hyper-aggressive strategies seen in decks like Stealth Rogue.
Since Darkmoon Races came out, we all realized how good Rogue was: during the last month, Valeera boasted a handful of playable archetypes throughout ladder (mainly Secret, Miracle and Stealth), all of which were consistent at keeping a remarkable hand-size while pushing damage and/or gaining control of the board.
All these archetypes had a small core of cards in common, one of which was Nitroboost Poison itself, particularly devastating in combination with Self-Sharpening Sword and cheap Stealth minions like Spymistress, Worgen Infiltrator and Sneaky Delinquent, so that Rogue was able to push insane amounts of damage in the very first few turns of the game with little to no answer from the opponents:; all of this while cycling through their deck with the likes or Cutting Class, Swindle and Secret Passage.
While Warrior will also take a hit (the card was played by Garrosh as well, but was far less of an outlier), we think this change is 100% deserved: it won't kill the card, but it will make it more difficult to Corrupt (unless it's combined with Preparation) and play in the first few turns, which is what we've been asking for.
What do you think of this nerf? Are there any other cards you would've wanted to see changed? Let us know in the comments below.

It makes sense for standard, but I'm sad to see it go from my wild Odd Rogue deck. Leeroy into Nitroboost won me so many games.
I still think Pen Flinger isn't busted in this deck (sorry!), but definitely not convinced Nitro nerf is going to be enough in the long run. The main problem with absolutely ridiculous amount of card draws remain (which is what enables such stupid amounts of cheap burst damage). 0 mana Cutting Class being very easy to achieve, Secret Passage still broken in its current iteration, and so on. Including Prep in Aggro deck is way more of a punishment when you can't cycle through like it's nothing.
I think they're just nerfing the most obvious issue (Nitroboost was always going to be too strong) and saving the rest for later so they don't preemptively nerf something that doesn't need it.
It had to happen, because Apothecary Helbrim and Efficient Octo-bot would be unbearable otherwise.
I don't think this is the end of this card, but rogues will certainly find it harder to corrupt it now.
Not enough, this retarded deck should burn in hell.
It's 2021 - there is truly never any need to drop the r-word. Please.
I don't know that it's dead in Warrior: there it was mainly a finisher, but the extra mana hurts, no doubt. Hurts the most with cutting class. Probably it's cut there for the weapon buffing pirates (1 in core, 1 in Barrens, right?). You know what, I was just thinking while writing, and now I'm sad.
Great for wild too
I dont think tis great for wild, odd rogue nor kingsbane where the best decks around
and they dint need a nerf for WILD.
Pirate Warrior, Kingsbane Rogue, Odd Rogue are all over 57% winrate with the fall of Priest popularity.
They need, coz of new immune card. Too much value for rogue. Ez lvl up attack and then clear every turn or 2 shots you with 15+ attacks weapon. But, idc actually. I care about rogue quest unnerf and sham unnerf. F*ck this sh*t, sry. But maybe this will finally kill secret mage meta
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Quest rogue isn't even that good. It was always played way more than its win rate deserved in Standard, and I'm not sure it'll have the same loyal following as it did back then, especially as there aren't really any slow control decks in Wild to prey upon.
At least I'm hoping quest rogue doesn't become a meta deck, because I've been waiting years to enjoy messing around with janky versions of the deck without feeling dirty doing it!
This is a welcome change that makes a lot of sense for the direction they seem to want Rogue to take in Barrens.
However, I'm not sure it will be enough to force any changes in the current Weapon Rogue list.
Very surprised that Pen Flinger, Broom and Sword got completely overlooked.
I guess it wouldn't have made sense to go all out with nerfs right before the meta is about to change drastically.
Probably gonna see those on the next one.
For standard is good and all, but i od still beleive they shouldve actulyl waited wiht any nerf until expansion was actully out.
but for wild(is which is most of what i play) i dont like it and as far i See it, the card is now dead in wild, odd cant run it and kingsbane cant corrupt it anywhere near relably enough anymore.
Thanks goodness this card is dead in wild
Yeah, so the poor poor secret mage, pain warlock and razakus get some chance...
Any deck that doesn't goes only face get some chance. Painlock and secret mage needs nerf too
Can agree to that, just thinking Rogue is not the worst offender currently. Wild has become quite toxic lately, I feelit might be too hard to fix at this point.
OH NO !

Anyway...
