We've got an important update to share this evening from Blizzard surrounding the new Samuro Diamond card and Mankrik on the rewards track and the duplicate protection that won't be available if you are participating in the pack openings on pre-release weekend.
- Mankrik is available on the Rewards Track for free at Level 1.
- Diamond Blademaster Samuro is available on the Tavern Pass at Level 1.
Since the Forged in the Barrens Rewards Track and Tavern Pass are not going to be immediately available, it will be possible to obtain different versions of these cards if you open your packs early since you won't have the duplicate protection in place that you normally would have if obtaining the cards through the pass before opening packs.
Because of this, the following cards will be disenchantable for their full dust value for a week following pre-release:
- Blademaster Samuro (Regular)
- Blademaster Samuro (Golden)
- Mankrik (Golden)
This change means we won't be penalized for opening our card packs early during pre-release weekend as if we get any of the above cards, we'll be able to disenchant it and craft any other card we want. It is actually more beneficial to open your packs during pre-release weekend now since if you obtain one of the cards, they essentially become a wild card to craft any legendary in the set. You could also just crack them open without redeeming anything in the rewards track & tavern pass once the expansion goes live, you just need to make sure you still disenchant the cards in the 1-week window!

Quote From Kerfluffle With Forged in the Barrens Pre-Release weekend coming up we wanted to share a quick update on an issue we’ve discovered which affects how two new Legendary cards, Mankrik and Blademaster Samuro, are acquired.
As a reminder, Mankrik will be available to everyone for free at level 1 on the Forged in the Barrens Rewards Track, and Diamond Blademaster Samuro will be available at level 1 on the Forged in the Barrens Tavern Pass. However, Forged in the Barrens card packs opened before visiting the Reward Track, and during Pre-Release weekend, can contain Blademaster Samuro or Golden Mankrik (in place of another Legendary card).
To address this, full Dust refunds will be available for the week following Pre-Release, this applies to golden Mankrik, non-golden Blademaster Samuro, and golden Blademaster Samuro.
Comments
As I understand those cards will also be disenchantable if opened after go-live but within a week, or not?
„full Dust refunds will be available for the week following Pre-Release, this applies to golden Mankrik, non-golden Blademaster Samuro, and golden Blademaster Samuro“
No, the cards from reward track are not disenchantable. But if you will get other versions (golden Mankrik or non-diamond Samuro) from packs, you can disenchant these copies (the non-reward-track-but-got-from-pack ones)
Guys, I have a question that I didn't find any answer, how do we get the golden versions of the new core set cards? Will be for leveling like the old ones?
I don't think they've revealed that info yet. Might remember a mention of possibly being tied to achievements for at least some of them.
They did.
Cool, I missed that. Where/when was this said?
It's a good thing rogue is pulling the weight of 6 classes for me at over 3000 wins, otherwise those neutral legendaries would be a long way off.
here, here
I don't think it works that way. With 500 wins with 1 class, you get a portion of neutrals as golden. Obtaining 500 more wins with the same class for a total of 1000 will not get you any more golden neutrals. In other words you have to get 500 wins with all classes to get all golden neutrals. It's the same mechanic with the old basic cards where you had to get all classes to level 60 to unlock all basic cards in golden.
Have they ever described it that way explicitly? My interpretation is consistent with how the non-golden neutrals will be obtained by total class level, where you get them all regardless of whether 1 class is at level 60 or 6 classes are level 10.
It would also be weird to say "10x that across all classes" instead of "that value in all classes" if it required every class to reach the threshold.
Maybe I misinterpreted, we will see. Either way, I guess neither of us will have any problems obtaining all the golden core set cards right away. ;)
Oh nice! Guess I'll be short a few goldens until I get a few more DH wins, but set on the rest. Thanks for the update.
So the pre release week start tomorrow right? How can I open my packs early?
Go here and set up a gathering for the pre-release weekend of Mar 26-29. I've done it before and just set the location to my house. Since the only option right now is a private gathering you shouldn't have to worry about strangers seeing your event and showing up at your place.
Then once you are in the event you set up you can open them. You might be able to access them a little earlier than the event start time too as gathering hosts can get into the event ahead of time to make sure they set up the network they intend to use for the event, etc. But as long as you set the time for some time during the pre-release event you should be fine.
It's all here: https://outof.cards/hearthstone/2770-forged-in-the-barrens-launches-on-march-30-final-reveal-stream-on-march-22-twitch-drops-mega-bundles-giveaway
Look towards the end for the section of how to set up private Fireside Gatherings. I have never done this personally, so can't offer first-hand experience.
All free legendaries should be able to be disenchanted for full value.
(not counting the "try it out" legendaries like Silas Darkmoon or Shadow Hunter Vol'jin, but the random ones they give you at the start of the expansion)
Except Mankrik is not a random legendary but a "try it out" everyone gets
The rule is: If it can be crafted, it can be disenchanted.
Normal Mankrik comes only from the Reward Track. It cannot be crafted. It would be a HUGE mistake if they allowed you to destroy a card you cannot get back. (In this case, the golden version of Mankrik can be crafted. Do you really want to have to do that if you dust the one you get from the Reward Track and change your mind later?)
Adding, all cards should be allowed to be crafted using dusts and vice versa. excluding special one like diamond one.
Isn't that a better solution? All players whether now or in the future should be able to play it in the wild if they don't get the free uncraftable one this year. (Like crafting free uncraftable Marin the Fox)
