Oh wild, you crazy, crazy format. A bug that has been making its rounds recently which caused a C'Thun OTK very easily to pull off early in the game has been fixed.
For those who weren't aware of the bug, here's how it worked.
- Create a deck with the aforementioned cards and cards that can buff your C'Thun. (Like Beckoner of Evil)
- Play a card that will buff your C'Thun.
- Play Maxima Blastenheimer.
- Watch the victory screen pop up.
Okay that's cool, but why does this actually work? Well, because bugs - and not the Qiraji kind! Blizzard hasn't made an official comment on why this was happening, but it appears the game became confused, quite possibly due to the way that C'Thun gets brought out onto the field via Maxima Blastenheimer and is forced to attack. This would summon C'Thun and then apply the same buffs he had earned over and over again until it reached the internal cap for triggers, 60, resulting in a C'Thun with 128 attack in the case of a buff with Beckoner of Evil. That Big Boy (TM) would then finish resolving Maxima, resulting in an incredible amount of damage to the face.
This was not a very hard combo to pull off and its good to see a fix has arrived. Two days ago, Dean "Iksar" Ayala mentioned that they wouldn't be any bans being handed out for abusing the bug, so if you did play around with it, you got lucky this time! Which is even more funny when you consider that someone was fighting Iksar while he was playing the C'Thun deck. Although Dean did not confirm it was him, his BattleTag was verified via a HS Deck Tracker reply file.
Quote From Kerfluffle We’re planning to deploy a server-side hotfix later today to address a bugged interaction between C’Thun and Maxima Blastenheimer. You will not need to download anything to receive this update.

This was the only way to deal more than 100 damage with cthun btw if you didn't know.
Dane made a video about this while playing against a control warrior, where he buffed a cthun up to, I want to say 300/300 with blade of cthun, but I don't remember. And it stopped at a cap way before it killed the warrior. It's a shame.
Games are still lasting until turn 5 in Wild? What gives? You guys are barely keeping up with Standard!
I Dirty Ratted a couple people's Maximas out before I actually saw what the point of the deck was. It was a bit of a shock when it finally happened to me. lol
I totally forgot Hunter had this Legendary.
The only thing that I could do against this while laddering was if I was lucky enough to draw my Ice Block before it went off. Although the auto concede after that was nice when it did happen. I'm just glad that this bug has been resolved.
Back to the regular levels of suffering in Wild!!
Well, at least she got a little bit of a spotlight on herself for a short time before being returned to the darkest pits of the game where most cards spend their whole sad existence.
I only tried this once, and I coined the combo for a turn 5 OTK in that only game I played. Then I deleted the deck, afraid that I'll be banned (I also didn't want to cheat my way into wins :P)
It was the only time I've ever used (and will ever use) Maxima Blastenheimer, and it was worth it.
WIld is saved!
Oh wait...
Well i hope they actually nerf seed lock this time around
And just like that, Maxima returns to the dust bin of history. It was amusing(?) while it lasted.
The c'thun bug also worked when resurrected, something was definitely wrong with c'thun when he was anything but played from hand
