Competition Theme: Counting On You
Get your calculators out, because we're asking you to do some really intensive counting this week!
- You must create a card which cares about the number of minions on the board
- Whether an effect that scales based on the number of minions, or a threshold that needs to be hit, your card needs to be counting those minions!
It's time for BloodMefist's competition, and this one is all about keeping track of the board. Make sure you count carefully!
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Here are the phases of this card design competition

Welcome to the site!
Would something like Ancient Void Hound count for this competition?
Kind of a basic effect, but maybe the flavor makes up for it.
I'd say not.
Back to my roots with the Paladin cards. All aboard the Yrel train, toot toot! lol
She probably needs to cost more, thinking about it.
Just wanted to post my idea and found out that Bunker Sergeant is a thing. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

Here we go. I'll add feedback once there are a few more posts in this thread.

First idea:
Not sure about the expansion, and I might change the art later, but I really like the effect.
Feedback:
Wailor: Really interesting and nice equalizing card. You only need 1 minion for this to be Arcane Intelect, so I'd make it cost 4. Interestingly enough, Mythgard has a similar card in Balance, which didn't see much play, but your card guarantees a draw, and Mythgard didn't have many swarm-y decks.
linkblade91: Yrel's Deathrattle is good against zoo decks, which can circumvent it by trading. I like Hold the Line! better.
anchorm4n: I swear I saw this on a card before, or at least something similar. Card isn't bad, though, but not that great either.
Thanks Nirast, I've only done a superficial search but took a second look after your comment - and of course there is Cyclopian Horror. Guess I'm out for another week then.

Honestly, your version is probably better. Is cheaper, and has a better base stat-line for the cost. But you'd lose points for originality.
Wow, I can't believe I won! Thanks for the support everyone! I believe this means I get to decide on a prompt. Do I just PM it to ShadowsOfSense?
Immediately thought of Unleash the Hounds! and decided I wanted to make a Hunter card.
Feedback:
Alright, I'm counting on you to give me some good feedback.
Restless Souls is a classic design of mine that ended up working perfectly for what's going on here.
Servant Magatha has Magatha Grimtotem at the Darkmoon Faire and corrupted by the Old Gods. Not sure why she's there, but the art was way too perfect to pass up. I wish I could've made it just summon any random Totem, but unfortunately a couple of too good rolls exist for that.
Feedback
Still going on that Yrel train even after she was added to the game. And wow, that Yrel is a huge comeback enabler. Basically a 5-Attack pre-nerf Dreadsteed with Rush while behind on board. Kinda strong at putting you back in the game.
Hold the Line! is definitely a lot easier to balance. That said, one thing that is weird about both cards is the fact that they both have anti-synergy with the Hero Power.
Pretty good job overall
Exactly that. PM Shadows (or DM on Discord) your prompt ideas and we choose whichever one we like the most to be the next competition (ideally having more than one prompt is a good idea).
As for your card, Smoldermort is definitely a deviation from the typical Hunter weapon. This is very much a card for Control Hunter, which is a little bit weird, but I don't hate it.
The artwork doesn't particularly feel like a Hunter weapon to me, but then again Stormhammer exists and this definitely feels more Hunter to me than that card does.
Yep: either Shadows, Demon, or myself will work. We'll share it amongst ourselves on the staff Discord, and then get back to you :)
Didn't want to make it 2, since Paladin has quite a few ways to flood the board with Dudes. And unlike Seeker, the buffed minion can attack immediately.
I did, however, change the art:
More Feedback:
AeroJulwin: The fact that it can't attack heroes makes it about as good as Bladed Gauntlet (hint: not very). It's probably worse because it's in Hunter.
Demonxz95: Not sure Restless Souls counts. Matatha all along isn't bad, but the effect isn't that interesting.
I agree the weapon was a bad idea. New card:
Keeping the same mechanic, but putting it on a Rush minion. Added an Overkill to keep the value of high Attack against smaller minions.
New idea. Is this too hard to pull off? Don't know if it's better or worse than my previous card.
I like Yrel. Her effect is very original as well as useful, but if you control no other minions, she can wipe the enemy board. I'm assuming she doesn't count towards comparing minion numbers, since y'know… she dead. I guess she can't kill more than one minion with 2 or less Attack, but as a large removal, she probably needs to be a 6-cost.
That's exactly what I was thinking :)
I'll have feedback tomorrow.
Feedback, as promised:
Wailor - As AeroJulwin alluded to, a 1-drop with Divine Shield (or at least 3 Health) will be a pain to remove immediately, allowing you to get Alone in the Woods up (possibly via the Coin if you're going second) and reliably set it off. I'm not sure how often you'll proc the Secret later in the game, but it's that initial opening that'll be problematic. +4/+4 is just too high; IMO it has that "woah that's OP!" initial read that'll put people off.
AeroJulwin - Overkill is a carry-over from Rastakhan's Rumble, so that'll upset some people (like Demon lol). It's a neat card, it just…would not exist in its current form.
Nirast - I'm okay with it being 3-mana, as a "tax" for the flexibility the card has. You're either using it against the enemy Subdue-style, or buffing something small like with Dark Conviction; they both cost 2, but the ability to have both options should make it cost 3. Choose One is a good example of this: the Druid often pays a convenience tax for being allowed a choice.
Demonxz95 - I understand why you pre-nerfed Magatha, however that decision also makes her rather boring if I'm being honest. You've flooded the board with random Totems, which is nice for buffing, but unless they were all the one with Taunt you haven't impacted the enemy's board or its ability to go face. The art is great; if you can find a more impactful/interesting effect this could be a winning combination.
anchorm4n - As the others noted, it's Belligerent Gnome crossed with Cyclopian Horror; that's okay, but not very interesting. Don't give up :(
My new, very stupid idea. Go big or go home!
Late feedback:
Among the other two cards, it's a tough call because they're completely opposite in some ways. Magatha is very safe and the Templar is pretty bonkers. To be honest, I don't see any of them winning, but they'll both surely reach the finals. I'd say go with the Templar to try something more original?
Congratulations to BasilAnguis! Almost came back for the win, but it was not to be :P
...what!? I won!? :o
Well i certainly didn't expect that. The one week i post on a whim last minute with no feedback and i did it at last haha! Thanks everyone!
I'll boop you
Yeah, tends to happen.
Thing you put hours of effort and thought behind? Barely any traction.
Thing you made on a whim, barely thinking about? 10 MILLION VIEWS!
Congrats either way!
