New Cards Revealed
Only a few cards have been revealed so far, but we've got the theme set for the expansion!
What Do the New Keywords Do?
You probably need some context for the new cards above. No worries, we've got you covered:
Infuse
- These cards absorb anima when friendly minions die.
- After the specified number of minions die while the card is still in your hand, the card transforms into a more powerful version.
Location (Card Type)
- Pay the initial cost to place the card onto the field.
- Every turn, you can activate the ability of your location card, for free.
- Activating the location card uses 1 durability and has a 1-turn cooldown.
- Every class has their own location card.
Comments
Daddy Denathrius!
Shaman is transforming again!!! I AM HYPED! PREPARE TO BE TINYFIN'D, FOOLS.
Dark and Gritty Karazhan it is!
I already absolutely love the theme of this expansion.
100% crafting golden Kel even if he's terrible.
(Unless he's diamond on the reward track)
He's probably in mage, so let's be real, there will be a diamond version of him :P
I think the rewards track always has the neutral diamond card though.
Alright, I've always been a sucker for detective themes and gothic castles so this expansion looks incredible to me. The cards though?
Sanguine Depths and Muck Pools as the new card type is interesting simply because it guarantees effects, you dont have to spend mana for them. Looking at their power level, I'd say that they will see play. Because why the hell would they not? Muck pools is basically upgrading your minions for 0 mana. Looking forward to those goldshire gnolls bs already.
Prince Renathal is the new baku/genn. Its almost like an unofficial gameplay revamp because anything that is not aggro (and likely it will include aggro as well) will gladly have 10 extra health and cards because with card draw being what it is today there's no reason to believe the 10 extra cards will be an impediment. People will simply build around that with more card draw, or more cycle. Because why not?
Murloc Holmes is too clunky. Basically three times of Envoy of Lazul and its very likely you'll fk up at least one of them. And the rewards isn't necessarily even that great. It'll see play only as a meme or in murloc decks.
Primordial Wave will be the new most hated card in the game.
I like how the infuse mech work. Particularly because it only procts on friendlies. So we'll see how good it will turn out.
@dapperdog I think you may be misunderstanding Murloc Holmes' ability. I believe he is Envoy of Lazul x3. but you don't need to be right 100% of the time. So, you might miss one, or two, but as long as you guess 1, you will get that card added to your hand. I think his ability is going to actually be REALLY good. Plus, the information he gives. That's 3 cards you are going to get to see in your opponent's hand.
Essentially, I think you guess 3 times, any of the guesses that you are correct, you get that card added to your hand.
After reading the desc again, you might be right in that you get copies of the card you guessed correctly. So you can get 2 out of 3 right and get 2 cards.
But looking at how Envoy of Lazul turned out, I still think this is a card for either aggro or murlocs. Its not necessarily telling you much your opponent has in their hand, because only one choice is correct, so at most you get a peek at 2 cards, one of which is a card that started in their hand, not currently in.
Besides, I think people tend to overvalue hand info. Hearthstone today is faster paced than it has ever been, so having hand info can help but rarely ever does anything significant. Most good players tend to play around them by default anyway, taking risks only where necessary.
"Every turn, you can activate the ability of your location card, for free"
So you can decide if to use the ability or to wait. Correct ?
yes, you can also choose the targets
We missed posting about this - source is the announcement video!
Oh, this is already an exciting expansion. I already like a good chunk of these cards.
Locations give me PTSD for when Landmarks was introduced in LoR. It's probably fine though since they're less permanent. Also, I'm a bit surprised they just didn't introduce that in Alterac Valley with Objectives. They're pretty similar after all.
Being able to choose each time if and where to use the effect, while also having a 1 turn cooldown, are some pretty big differences, both between landmarks and objectives.
What I'm worried about for location cards is that they're probably only going to give each class only one of them and then throw out the mechanic entirely for the next expansion, like they tend to do for every mechanic ever.
They actually confirmed Locations are new type of cards that will stay with us like Hero Cards
I don't think so as they are an entirely new card type, like hero cards they'll stay around
As this is an entirely new card type and not just a new mechanic, I'm sure we'll absolutely see Locations return. Not every set, but it'll be somewhat of a deciduous mechanic.
Hero cards are fairly rare to get, but we still get them every once in a while. I imagine this will be the same deal. Actually since this card type supports non-Legendary cards, we may actually get more of them than hero cards.
"Unlike minions, Locations don't have Attack or Health, so they actually can't be damaged or destroyed unless a card specifically says so."
We're absolutely getting a way to destroy Locations then. Why would Cora say this if we weren't?
