I think people are underestimating this card. We are limited to board space true but Rogue has the ability to return minions to her hand and this is not jus "play", it is "summon" so cards like Azsharan Vessel or some deathrattles (even they leave standard or not exist for now) will work with this.
Also, draw is not a problem for rogue so it is not that hard to proc a combo like 2x Bloodsail Raider + 2x Shadowstep with Watercannon equipped.
it is just 24 dmg to the face on an empty board. Considering you are playing pirates, it is more than enough to end the game because you probably deal some damage on earlier turns.
There is also Sandbox Scoundrel's mini. With that you can do some more stuff i guess.
Also you have coins too, which means even if you only run [Hearthstone Card (Dig for treasures) Not Found], you will have 6 mana after playing Shoplifter Goldbeard.
I mean, it is still a 5/5 in an aggro deck that needs to be dealt with. Even good for playing it on curve imo. If they don't, turn 7 might be bad for your opponent. It won't be problem for rogue to fuel it after playing it on curve in an aggro deck if you don't want to combo it.
I don't think this card is bad or underwhelming.
Unpopular Opinion Incarnate
This card looks very strong, and I'm sure will enable all kinds of powerful combos. The flavor makes no sense to me, though. Why would a shoplifter summon attack dudes?
"Be excellent to each other." -Bill and Ted
The flavor is probably something like him robbing the store together with his crew who are rushing (spawning) into the store (enemy face) before leaving it as quickly as possible (dying). Ok, maybe that's a stretch.
Black friday time!
Also yeah I think this will be cool with the rush 3/3 guys and any deathrattle card in general. It could be a better spiritsinger umbra in some cases.
Edit mid writting: But we would need the pirate support. I just noticed it is just applied to pirates so it is not like every deathrattle goes.
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Could be incredible if Pirate Rogue gets more support in the second expansion; not impossible, given the hint of beach flavor we were given. As of right now, though, I just don't think it gets there...which could be said of the whole package.
I really like this as a board control tool slash value engine for Pirate Rogue, but I'm thinking you'd have to go overboard to turn this into a win condition. It's decent, and Pirate Rogue is one of the decks I'm most intrigued by.
I don't want to cure cancer; I want to turn people into dinosaurs.
In Standard, there's too few good Pirates to use with this at the moment.
Here's to that beach set after this one giving us some new Pirates.
Pretty weak to be honest, but in wild can create funny combo decks
Goldbeard is a Shoplifter now?? Seems decent, nothing Special.
Generally speaking, it seems expensive but it has the potential to popoff with what Rogue usually does
Not really interested in doing that sort of gameplay myself as it just seems inconsistent but will be fun to watch streamers do it though haha
It looks a bit too expensive to me to really work out. If you play it on curve, your opponent should usually be able to remove it. If you don't, you only have 5 Mana for other stuff. Maybe some cost reduction shenanigans can help but I heavily doubt the effort is worth the result. Weird card for now.
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

Seems too expensive to be able to play on curve, but we know this will be combo'd with that "Cost (3) less" pirate
This feels like a more complicated board refill that will only feel good after randomly summoned from Pirate's ship.
I really hope this isn't meant to be some silly OTK maneuver considering it's legendary status.
Not sure if this'll be that good, but it seems fun nonetheless. Lots of pirates jumping at random enemies, it'll be almost like Battlegrounds!
This ought to be a great card in pirate decks. I'm not sure there's enough support for them just yet, but this looks damn good.
Feels like he could be broken with Treasure Distributers and Southsea Deckhands, but the OTK is probably cheaper off of Sonya...
Hey, you heard about that Mario guy?
