So They Added Draenei Tribe Tag...

What are your thoughts on this topic ? Do you think they will add Nelf, Human, Orc, Dwarf etc. in future ?

To be fair, I dislike the idea. I always thought that WoW playable races shouldn't be added as tribe because it was always like minions with tags on board are minions, thralls that we are commanding or battlepets like Hunter/Warlock Companions from WoW etc. and tribeless cards are people from the party so everything had more meaning, even limited-to-seven board. Also tribe tag is limiting those races mechanically like how murlocs, beasts etc. are themed around some mechanics but these controllable races can be anything, a mage, a warrior, a priest etc. So mechanically it just looks wrong and limiting the art styles and the game's mechanic imo.

It would be better if Hearthstone could have tribes like how MTG has from beginning but they chose to go with tribeless path so there needed to be some cards which has no tribes and i always think that those tribeless cards will be playable classes of Warcraft. Now it has been broken with the release of draenei.

Also, tribes in hearthstone had some themes/mechanics added to them. I read it like Draenei will have the theme that each draenei will give a bonus for next draenei but looking at all cards there are a lot of draenei with random effects, Also there is this fact that there are dozens of older draenei which could never fit this theme like these guys here and so much more;

Argent Braggart Card ImageAldor Peacekeeper Card ImageProphet Velen Card ImageCorporal Card ImageFlame Juggler Card Image

Also there is this fact that they gave Draenei tribe tag to Broken/Lost One which we can see on Exarch Akama and Demon tag to Man'ari Eredar from beginning. This is just sad and breaking the point that HS would be wider with addition of them but without those, it just feels wrong.

What will they do with those old cards, will they give Draenei tag to them too ? If they won't, it would be inconsistent with what they did with Undead, Naga etc. before in my opinion. If they will, it will be mechanically absurd.

So my point is, they shouldn't add a playable race as a tribe tag because they can be any class so they can't be or shouldn't be limited with a tribe tag and its mechanic/theme. they created cards and can/will create cards with those arts in future and it will break consistency even more, it still breaks it with adding the tribe to older cards.

If they had to add a tribe, it might be Ethereal for this expansion. It is more thematic tribe that you can bind them to a single mechanic but in my opinion you shouldn't bind a tribe like draenei to a mechanic. It looks so shallow and plain when you do that.

Now what awaits us ? Orcs with Frenzy ? Dwarves with Taunts ? Humans with Inspire ? Nelves with choose one ?

Don't get me wrong, it is always cool to have some content like this but it is not MTG which creatures has Human tribe with Soldier so you can do mechanically everything with those like a Human Werewolf or an Orc Warrior but this is HS and we all know how tribes are there mechanically.

In final thoughts, if they started to add these races as tribes, we won't have any tribeless cards in future so that's a problem on my point of view. There was a reason before as they don't add tribes for cards, like tutoring them for example. If they continue to add other races, that means we won't have any tribeless cards in future which is a problem in a game designed with addition of tribeless cards. I was skeptical when they added undead before but it was ok because they weren't a playable class so you can theme them around necromancy stuff but it started with Draenei now.

Why I am saying this ? Because now i will be pissed off if they won't add other races as tribe tag as Nelf, Human, Orc, Tauren etc. with Draenei addition they have no excuses anymore to add the others too. There was this excuse before which i explained above with mechanics, theme etc. Now it is gone with Draenei. it is a bad move and choice for game design of Hearthstone.

TL;DR I'm sad that draenei is used for Tribe, It should have been Ethereals.

All of these arguments can be applied to Dragons (the Dragon Aspects existed in the Basic set, along with things like Azure Drake), Undeads and Naga. So if you want to raise that point I think you are way too late.

Dragons were added to the game way too early at Blackrock Mountain and before that point, there was not a lot of Dragons in the game. Existing ones were all 4/5+ minions and they already have the theme of "holding a big minion in hand as advantage" in design because Blackrock Mountain was already planned while they are creating the classic, Naxx and GvG.

Dragons are not a playable race which can be ANY class btw. Latest ones are Drachtyr and they can become only Evoker (which will change or already changed with war within, i guess) and Dragon Aspects is the reason of "if you are holding a dragon" mechanic already.

For naga, you might be right but it also suits the theme as there was not a lot of Nagas before there was only 1 naga at classic and bunch with Demon Hunter release.

I am not way too late tbh because this is the first time a race that can do a lot of things getting tribe tag. Ok, i agree with some older stuff break some tribe mechanics as being out of context but Draenei is used wider then any other existing tribes on arts and will be used for more on upcoming releases because it is one of the main races of the Warcraft which can be used by players too. It is the first and the only playable race of WoW tribe tag on Heartshtone.

I thought like they only added Undead to zombies, abominations etc. for a moment but you are right, they added Undead tag to all. They should have spared Forsaken with Undead.

I already talked about this before when they released Undead at MotLK but people said "it's ok, they can't spare them". I was ok with that at that moment and i forgot for a moment now and yes you are right.

There was a speak at classic times about Druid beasts that if they want to add Night Elf / Tauren etc. how the tribes will be and people was saying that "they will never add playable races as tribes so don't worry." lol. Look at where we are now.

They were saying the same thing while i was whining about they shouldn't add Undead btw. Thanks for remembering it to me.

I still have hopes if they start to add other races, maybe they spare Forsaken and Undead from each other. I mean, How in the world Abomination and Sylvanas Windrunner has the same tribe tag.

I don't think they'd ever add Forsaken as a tribe because the difference between Forsaken and Undead is not going to be obvious to people who don't know much about WoW. I can imagine all of those people being like "why is this thing not an Undead? It's a rotting, zombie looking thing."

Night Elf and Tauren might happen at some point. I don't have a problem with Draenei being a tribe other than making it harder for people to make custom tribes, but screwing over the FC guys has basically been Blizzard's thing forever, hehe. I will admit that I didn't expect them to be the next new tribe though. I thought it would most likely be Plant.
