Wild Data Reaper Report #20

Vicious Syndicate published the Wild Data Reaper Report #20:

Here's their tier list:

T1:
Odd Rogue, Aluneth Mage, Odd Paladin, Mech Paladin, Sn1p-Sn4p Warlock, Even Shaman

T2:
Reno Mage

T3:
Murloc Shaman, Reno Warlock, Mech Hunter, Reno Shaman

T4:
Reno Hunter, Reno Priest, Quest Shaman, Big Priest, Thief Rogue

 

As I already stated in the pepper thread, I am still surprised of the low amount of Sn1p-locks between rank 15 and 5. VS blames that on the high skill cap of that deck while also mentioning that it's pretty much unbeatable in the right hands. What also matches my experience are the huge numbers of aluneth mages swarming said ranks. It's a pity that warrior has no really competetive deck right now, when they just got an awesome new hero skin :/ Let's hope for a strong standard deck with the arrival of DoD.

The big surprises for me are Odd Rogue and Evolve Shaman. I can't remember playing against a single Odd Rogue this month, but according to VS it sits right there on top of T1. They go even further with Evolve Shaman, which they don't have enough data for to place it in the regular tier list, but strongly support the claim the deck is T0.

What are your experiences? Do you agree with the provided data and the following conclusions?

  • I am surprised with Reno Mage on t2. I expected it to be on t1.

    I meet some Odd Rogue and Even Shaman in my usual grind to r4/3, and i am honestly not so surprised. If anything because Shaman can use Devolve, and Odd Rogue can be pretty fast as a deck, while consistent.

    I still think Aluneth Mage, Sniplock and Mechadin are broken and meta-warping, with only extremely narrow weaknesses.

  • The report is correct: Aluneth Mage, SN1P-SN4P Lock and Mech Pala are clearly on another league in comparison with everything else around atm. They're fast, hard to counter and with lot of consistency on their side.

    Actually I don't see any chance to get them out of Tier S, since they've very little to no counter that can hurt them, so I hope that DoD will have what we need to shake up this stale meta with something new. Otherwise a direct action from Team 5 will be needed, at last to lower the power level of those 3 decks and keep them on par with other Tier 1 archetypes.

    I'm once again sad to see that Priest still in a terrible spot no matter what. Also Warrior seems to not be able to keep a steady presence of any kind aside from a low tier Pirate archetype.

  • So I've been playing evolve shaman and odd paladin.

    Evolve shaman is surprisingly good. Evolve and devolve are just really broken cards. I don't regret crafting this deck at all. People have slept on Deathseer Thrall for too long!

    As for Odd Paladin, I don't see it. Maybe I'm playing poorly in this meta but getting to rank 5 with this deck used to be a breeze. Flame Ward and defile make me not want to play it anymore.

  • I've been playing a bit of odd rogue at lower ranks due to big priest encounters and it really is a "lesser deck killer". It basically does well against everything not mage/ (Sn1p-sn4p) warlock/paladin. What I don't understand is the secret mage matchup though. It seems near unwinnable for me, yet their data says it's 50/50ish. Flame Ward and Arcane Flakmage are just demoralizing. 

    Surprised to see the new version of cubelock make it to tier 1ish. I'll give that a shot once I get out of the big priest ranks. I expected evolve shaman to be tier 1. Control tried it out a month ago and did really well with it. I tried it myself but the deck didn't seem consistent enough for me. I'll probably give vS' builds a go and see if they work better.

    @OP: If you face a lot of mages (I'm talking over 50% here) odd warrior is still a decent deck as it has a great matchup against them. It also does well against odd rogues and even shamans. So in the right pocket meta it can still work.

  • Just played against Snip Snap Warlock for the first time. (I don't play Wild very often.)  Sweet merciful heaven, what was that? I can't believe that is allowed to exist. It makes everything in Standard seem totally fine.

      Regarding the report, it seems pretty accurate to me, but I still think that renolock is better than renomage. 

      Another thing that bothers me, but I expected to happen, was the rise in big priests, probably due to a secondary increase in control decks trying to beat secret mages (thank God they are sparse above rank 5 were I'm playing right now)...

      About the low sample size decks, I have doubts about the evolve shaman stuff (I mean, broken by broken, sniplock is just faster and more consistent, evolve shaman without drawing this card is trash) and cubelock is still vulnerable to damage-heavy decks, but still a really strong deck!
