Both cards look solid. Ez to pull off and cheap to boot. They will see play imo
Clear the way seems easy enough to activate and the reward is decent. It's better than Toxic Reinforcements.
The first thing people thinks when looking at Secure the deck is the Gonk memes but i see this as a nice support card for Hand Druid which has a few synergy cards available at the moment. It's better than Witchwood Apple. Cards like Twilight Drake, Bewitched Guardian, Mountain Giant, Ferocious Howl and Overflow are good for this type of strategy. This could be the correct direction for Dragon Druid but we will see.
but Hand Druid doesn't have an actual gameplan. Dropping Mountain giant early isn't enough of a wincondition and there are better midrange minions than Twilight Drake and Bewitched Guardian.
Also compare the 3 useless treants from Apple for 2-mana to the 3 slightly less useless Claws for 5-mana (sidequest + two hero powers of at least 2 turns)....I don't think this is it
I see two possible directions. The first is the treant/token synergy since Wispering Woods is also a card that benefits from large hand sizes. This strategy is already available but it's not as good as quest (because quest has such an op effect). The other is an actual highlander deck with lots of draw, some good dragons (Twilight Drake, Emerald Explorer, Brightwing), Elise, Zephrys, and the new Ysera. Maybe add Nomi as an alternate win condition. Or maybe another quest shell (hopefully not). There are options. If they are going to surpass the quest is another story. I really hope Druid doesn't become a class of a single deck/strategy because of one card that's too strong.
The sidequests are tough to evaluate. Time will tell if you can consistently activate them.
I really hope there is a well-statted tutor for Sidequests.
If anything because all of them sound pretty fancy.
why though? There's no point in getting these early. Depending on the type they're not even bad topdecks.
Let's say I'm playing Quest Hunter and I topdeck Clear the way while having Springpaw and Henchclan hogsteed in hand. It's basically a 1-mana 4/4 with rush that I just topdecked, which is probably better than anything else in the deck.
If you get it in your mulligan you can just play it while you're floating mana or try to time it for a big swing turn.
Either way, these sidequest are clearly meant to be used in decks that have a lot of opportunities to activate them.
Druid's is probably mostly Gonk support anyways, there's no real reason to run it in any other deck.
More than early, the tutor i hoped for was for consistency purposes, of playing them when most fitting.
Druid's one could be fairly good without Gonk, provided more Savage Striker are released. And the tutor.
I like the hunter one a lot and depending on when you draw, can be helpful or possibl not do much of anything.
It's hard to say whether these cards will be any good. Due to the new mechanic of Sidequests, it seems likely we'll only know when people get a chance to use them. Overall, I'm not blown away by the Druid card. The Hunter rare looks at least playable, especially in Quest Hunter.
Five stars for Gronk synergy
Im not so sure on the sidequests because they dont start in your opening hand depending on when u draw them they are either ok or awful
Secure the Deck - given that today's Druid main archetype is Quest Druid with Ossirian Tear and that Malfurion doesn't have weapons available, this card will see play only if there will be a non-quest deck. To be honest such scenario seems a little bit unrealistic now, but may become a thing after April's rotation. 2/5
Clear the Way - Springpaw, Desert Spear, Unleash the Beast and Zilliax are cards Hunter plays even without being rewarded for doing so. Will see play, will be good but not mega defining. 3/5
There are some spells you can use in quest druid to gain attack, but not really worth it to run side quest... It is more of gonk support...
You said it yourself: in the end, the golden rule of deckbuilding is "don't but bad cards in your deck to justify other bad cards".
Unfortunately, as things are now (current meta and current revealed cards), Secure the Deck may be defined as a bad card, but could become better later with other reveals.
We'll see
Clear the Way seems easy to do cause you can summon rush minions easily. you just need them in hand.
Secure the Deck has it risks on mid to late game when large taunt minions stands in your way, but very good on early game for sure
Aren't Side Quests just for League of Explorers?
Also, any idea what a "Claw" card is?
Yes, only the "good" classes get sidequests so we're only missing Paladin now.
And as Demonxz95 said, Claw is Claw. Can't blame you if you forgot that exists.
Is each class getting 2 sidequests do you know? Cos isn't there a hero power one for hunter too
Didn't even remember that :D
No official information has been given on the number of sidequests to my knowledge. My next guess would've been Epic and Rare for all good classes but Mage has one and it's Common...Hunter already has three Commons, none of them being a sidequest. I'm still going to guess two for all, but the rarities seem more or less random.
