Since when do Hunters wield lightning? Or harness the power of the storns..
Hmm this doesn't look like a Hunter Weapon. Okay i'm not a Warcraft player, but i have seen plenty of people saying Maces are not hunter weapons. Also the name really makes me feel like this should have been a Shaman Weapon. Shamans like everything "Storm" and "Lightning" based. so that already feels like it's bad design flavorwise.
The effect itself is pretty interesting, it has 2 durability so you don't always need to have a dragon to get it's effect. And this for 3 mana is really good! honestly when i saw the effect i thought this was a legendary, but no. It's just this expansions crazy powerlevel.
Not a lot of analysis going on over here aside from 'hunter wat'.
For what it's worth: skeptical that it'll see play. Eaglehorn Bow already does the same thing but better, in any deck that isn't specifically dragon-centric. And as we've surely discussed to death by now, competently-built dragon decks have not historically contained all that many dragons, relatively speaking.
I think it's also worth noting, just as a point of interest more than anything, that this card is fundamentally anti-synergistic with a lot of dragon cards' effects. It's very common for them to be activated by holding another dragon in hand; this card is activated by having a dragon on the board. If you run this card in a dragon deck, it probably won't be particularly rare for you to have to choose between keeping this weapon in play and keeping a dragon in hand to activate your topdeck.
Rogue already has a way to get a 2 mana 3/2 weapon every turn without a dragon stipulation. This isnt that strong.
Everyone making the Fiery War Axe comparison, when really its closer to an Eaglehorn Bow for Dragon Hunter instead of Secret Hunter.
Everyone is complaining about that weapon should have belonged to Shaman or Paladin but I can see the connection with the hunter honestly and liked it.
Dwarven Gryphon Riders uses hammers most of the time and they all are like hunters more than paladins/shamans so I liked the flavor here.
Look how they themed hunter in this expansion around Gryphons/Riders/Dwarves and Primordial Dragons. I think it fits well and I have been playing hunter for a while in past. Also this Stormhammer is a ranged weapon with lightning power of it.
The term "Hunter" doesn't mean Ranger tho.
See Falstad Wildhammer for example. He is a Gryphon Rider and using a weapon like it.

I liked the flavor of it tbh.
And card is great for midrange Dragon Hunter. I will probably craft it if i don't get it in my first packs.
Dragon Hunter unless maybe it's some highlander version won't be a thing. Not above tier 3 at least.
I don't care tiers, ranks neither.
Games are there for fun unless you re playing in grand tournements or making money from them.
Playing this game competitively without streaming and tournements is the most ridiculous thing imo.
I am playing this game because of enjoyement, not for satisfying my ego.
So, I will be playing "the shitty" dargon hunter with my shitty Marsh Drakes and Carrion Drakes, my shitty dragon warlock, my shitty dragon rogue and my shitty dragon everything for next 4 months.
Can you give me some examples of what achievements one can win in this game by playing this game competitively every month other than frustration? 1 cardback for once, 1 golden epic instead of one common after a month(!), simply 400 more dust and some more dust around 200 which is really nothing.
I'm suggesting you to do same as playing the game for Joy. Playing competitively without tournements can only bring frustration and local tournements, tournements around web doesn't care for ranks unless you are below 20 or 15 and it doesnt take more than one Day to pass 15.
Noone can say that " I love how stressing and frustrating to climb and playing against same OP decks over and over again.". People who plays this game competitively are in two titles, people who gains money from it and people who wants to satisfy their ego without A gain.
With the example of me, Maybe you can understand why Blizzard prints shitty but funny cards. Because people like me loves those cards.
Seems very strong, but there's a natural, neutral counter in Kobold Stickyfinger so I don't think it will be meta-defning.
Team 5 designer1: Wow this shaman weapon is OP. We need to nerf it but i like it being a better Fiery War Axe :/
Team 5 designer2: Let's just give it to a different class then. *Throws a dart* Damn, Hunter?
Team 5 designer1: Whatever
You: Fiery War Axe vs. The guy she told you not to worry about:
Looks very strong. Even just getting one extra swing off it is worthwhile.
Ha, like everyone else is saying - I thought this was for sure a Shaman weapon on first glance! Reminds me of the early days in WoW, playing that Hunter and need rolling on EVERY WEAPON THAT EVER DROPPED!
Looks really strong but you need to constantly place dragons on the board to keep this. It's very unlikely that any small dragons stick for more than a turn. And big dragons come down very late in the game (and may still be removed in a single turn). It's good support for Dragon Hunter but it feels very similar to Eaglehorn Bow. Sometimes you won't have time to hold back on attacking while waiting for a dragon to play. Just like when you can't afford to let them develop a board because they are intentionally avoiding popping your secrets. If you play too greedy, you could be punished pretty hard. Also, you still need to face tank stuff that you want to remove and as with any other weapons it will be easily removed by tech cards. Zephrys isn't leaving anytime soon, after all. Overall, it may look scary at first glance but it's just good, not amazing.
Edit: Btw, this card feels completely out of place in Hunter. It looks like a Paladin card that they realized was too broken for the class last minute and just decided to give it to Hunter instead.
I'd like to mention Carrion Drake which is a pretty T H I C C midrange dragon that opponent's can't value trade into (assuming it activated).
I think they were going for an alternative to Eaglehorn, which is basically the same: a 3/2 weapon that occasionally gets extra charges and allows you to trade/pressure, but if it doesn't you're not depressed about it.
This is better than Eaglehorn, because you can at least control when to get the bonus off (play this on 3 and swing, play a dragon on 4 and swing again and already you have gotten value out of it. If you break it on swing 3, so be it, if not, then hey, even more value)
Weapons should never be underestimated, especially when we're talking about a class that does very well at applying face damage over time.
Thrall: "It must be a Shaman weapon. It radiates with the power of the Storm!"
Uther: "Surely not! It is a weapon of justice, a hammer is a trademark of the Paladins."
Rexxar: "Me? Seriously?!"
Thrall & Uther: "............"
And now imagine:
Rexxar riding into battle on Dragonback, wielding the great Stormhammer and smiting his Opponents (Faces) with mighty Thunder and Lightning crackling!
DRAGON-HUNTER, HOO!
I hate this card so much
I'm having 2013-2014 face hunter flashbacks! I hope the next meta isn't going to be Face hunter vs Whoever can survive the first 5 - 9 turns and anything else new/cool becomes just meme territory... on a related note, Kobold Stickyfinger is looking pretty good right now.
I thought every explorer class would get 3 dragons?
Not really sure about Dragon Hunter now. It doesn't really seem to have a coherent theme
