Competition Theme: One Man's Treasure
For this competition, we'd like you to create a treasure card for any of the rogue-like single-player modes (Dungeon Run, Monster Hunt, Rumble Run, Dalaran Heist or Tombs of Terror).
- Your treasure can be a playable card or a Passive upgrade
- You may make a Shrine for Rumble Run
- Most treasures are completely neutral and can be obtained by any class, however:
- You may make a class-specific treasure for Rumble Run
- You may make a class-specific treasure for Tombs of Terror
- You may make a character-specific treasure for Monster Hunt
- You must use an appropriate watermark for your card
- Kobolds and Catacombs, Witchwood, Rastakhan's Rumble, Rise of Shadows and Saviours of Uldum are allowed, to make that more explicit
Welcome, welcome everyone to another WCDC. This one directly follows on from our last one - we celebrated the cards we got, and now we're celebrating the single-player content.
As before, let us know if you experience any issues via Discord or PMing me here on the site.

Welcome to the site!
(I'm actually using 250 instead of 200, which is kinda weird)
It took me about 2 hours to get this idea, but in the end, it actually kinda works.
I can't seem to put an Uldum Watermark on free spells.
Anyway, here it is.
Knowledge is Power
Alright, this is my first idea. It needs some work, but this is just the first thing I thought of.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I transplanted a Hunter Epic card I created into a Treasure for Monster Hunt. Not sure if it's "OP enough" to be a Treasure:
To add a watermark to a card without a rarity, click this button.
Then scroll down to "Custom".
That will open this menu:
Click "Force Apply Emblem (for basic cards)" to force your most recently chosen watermark onto the card.
Probably not. I feel like is could be printed as a collectible card and it wouldn't be unbalanced.
As someone who loves deck manipulation though, I love the design.
One other thing I will mentions: Pristine Compass. Not sure how much the "used art" criticism applies here compared to collectible cards.
Damn I should have checked this thread before submitting my card, it has a common card mark because I didn't know how to do that.
One little piece of advice: don't submit your card too quickly. I did that and then realized my card is a bit flawed, both in terms of balance and wording.
I almost made the mistake of submitting too quickly again. I'm going to sleep on this one and look at it again in the morning.
Treasure for DH. Thoughts?
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I'm still struggling with the watermark and might change the art, it's supposed to be a treasure for the Dalaran Heist. How do you feel about using Gwent art? I'd really appreciate feedback :)
I notice I am confused. Something I believe isn't true. How do I know what I think I know?

I feel like it's not strong enough yet. I would suggest reducing the number of portals but raising the stats of the demons. Is there a number linked to Malchezaar? Maybe you could go with 5s, like shuffle 5 portals which summon 5/5s with rush

@Anchorm4n the problem is that I want to tie it to the Portal Keeper theme of Felhounds
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Question to the mods: how difficult would it be to implement a system similar to Trump's? (different rankings for design and balance) Then the final score an either be the average or the sum of the two.
This doesn't work for me. Anyone else having issues? Any tricks I could try?
Edit: it actually DOES work, but only when you create the card. Preview won't show the watermark.
Here's something very helpful for noobs like me I dug up, great thanks to @Demonxz95

I’ve got two ideas so far but not sure how I can post them here on mobile. Imgur sucks.
Anyway, the ideas are:
1. Amalgamate - Witchwood Passive
Passive. Your minions this run have all minion types.
- predictable, fun, but kinda boring design
2. V-07-TR-0N MK. II - Dalaran Legendary
(5) 2/2 Mech
Battlecry: Discover 3 Magnetic Mechs (from any class) and attach them to this minion.
- imo, more interesting than the first idea but it’s subject to higher RNG
- there’s a bunch of variants to this idea too, my favorite being to discover a mech for each boss you’ve beaten

Is this too strong? I used the "cast on draw" to blunt the power a little bit since you wont necessarily be able to control the buff timing
I'll preface this by saying 1) I've never won a card design, and 2) I'm thinking about cards *I* would choose if they were offered to me, so I recognize my particular play style is not the same as everyone else's, so take everything with a chunk of salt. But:
Demonxz95 - That's very strong, and would pair well with other spell-treasures. I would definitely grab that on a later offering if I already had a good spell-based deck. 4 stars
h0lysatan - I loved Annoy-o Horn - it got me out of so many bad situations by giving a few extra turns to try and draw a turnaround. Would absolutely take that. 5 stars.
KANSAS - I can't imagine a situation in which I would take that sorry - maybe remove the "can't attack heroes" and you get some play since it would (ideally) be 25 face dmg, but there's no way you wouldn't be dead really quickly with that. Great art though. 1 star
linkblade91 - I can definitely see the value, but that card strikes me as a "card of last resort" - with so many of the adventures you're wouldn't be fishing for a finisher, you'd be fishing for a lifeline which could be valuable. I would likely take it if my deck was garbage just to try and limp it out to the boss. 3 stars
DestroyerR - I like the card and based on the suggestion about raising stats but your counter - what about if you split the difference? to whit: make it like Rin, the First Disciple's seals- the first demon you draw is a 1/1, the second 2/2 and on so that the last one is a 15/15 (mini-ZANCIENT ONE). 3 stars as-is, 5 stars if you follow my obviously correct suggestion :)
anchorm4n - This feels super balanced - it would be fantastic against some stages and useless against others. and I alwys went for minion buffs like Captured Flag, Giant's Ring, etc. so would definitely take it. 5 stars
DescentOfDragonsOp - I would lower the cost to 2 since it's random spells - RNGesus is not always kind. 3 stars.
Very nice card
However this gets better the less cards you have because your more likely to get it
i would susgest give you minions +1/+1 leave the healing the same just so the buffs dont get too insane

Hold! is just a worse version of Titanic Ring
Tasty Meat/Krush is the better option, but for some more punch I might 1) give it Twinspell, or 2) maybe make it something like "Meat's Back on the Menu!" (references!) and have it summon 2 King Krushs rather than just one.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't want the sword to just be "deal 50 damage to your opponents face" but you are right that as it is now you would be taking too much damage for it to be worth it. I ended up ditching the double damage, but it was hard to find a good design for the "cursed" theme that both had an upside and a downside that wasn't too overpowered, too underpowered, or too complicated. So I came up with this, what do you think?
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I love it. I don't think it's too strong as it is reliant on a good topdeck, but it's a fun option.
I think that is MUCH better - moreso being KoC given how many of those dungeon run bosses ran token-y decks where you'd want to clear the board ASAP ahead of buffs.
this is a great re-ivention of the card it allows you to clear alot without taking alot of damage

How are people posting images? Are they hosting somewhere other than imgur?
I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.
http://www.hearthcards.net/
When you generate a card, you have an option to create a permanent link. You can use the temporary link, but the card will disappear in like 3 days.
I'm having second thoughts on the 10 durability.
At 10 attack you can basically kill anything that doesn't have divine shield, and you get to do that 10 times. I don't think you will be attacking with this every turn, and I don't think most games will be 10 turns long. Especially considering that most of the time you won't be playing this on turn 1. Would this be better as a 10/5? Or maybe I could keep the 10 durability but make it less efficient at killing. Would a 5/10, or maybe a 3/15 be better?
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I do actually load them up to imgur after creating them on hearthcards and saving them on my device. It's a bit clunky but it works. The trick to post the picture from imgur is not to use the picture in your gallery but to click it another time so a window with only the pic in it opens. You can tell the difference by the URL, there should be no "gallery" in it. Copy the URL and insert the pic into your post with the button. If it calculates widh and height after inserting the link, you did it right.

Good luck to everyone
Corruption should being with a capital C, as it's part of a proper name (in this case, a card name). Its self-referential aspect also should use different syntax modifiers. It should be 'Emeriss Corruption' instead of Emeriss Corruption. Better yet, it could just be "add a copy of this to your hand".
Could probably also say "give them Deathrattle: X" instead of "when they die", although it seems like text space got in the way of that one.
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not an english speaker so i was struggling with the card text.
This looks better!
Alright, I dropped my Mech idea because it was just a big minion. Here are my other 2 ideas:
Amalgamate - Pretty simple idea. This makes deckbuilding and choosing minions much more interesting. However I’m not sure this is real original.
Cursed Sarcophagus - This is a more complex idea. As your deck gets more bloated, you can use this to clear out a bunch of unwanted cards from your deck. It also works very well with card generation (since they don’t start in your deck) and against the last boss (since your deck goes away whether you win or lose)

i noticed that theres not alot of cards made in this comp when compared to how to train year dragon comp
maybe its creativity issues or maybe were just so early into this competition that not alot of people inserted designs yet

A Tombs of Terror treasure that summons the four Uldum League members with their battlecries. Not much to say about it except that it is a big swing but could be tricky to best use while accounting for all four battlecry effects.
-Hordaki (rhymes with Mordecai)
Check out the Tactician custom class!
so basically you spend 10 mana to summon an 8/8 with charge deal 10 damage to random enemy minions duplicate your hand ,and discover an upgraded hero power
AND summon a 4/6 a 5/5 a 2/4, and a 2/3
yeah seems op for 10 mana but really cool concept
either 2 or 3 stars

Can I submit a Bob's Tavern spell as my entry?
Put your faith in the Light!
Had I remembered about those when I made this prompt, I would've said yes.
However, as it isn't specified in the rules, it's probably best that you don't.
Ah well. Thank you for the reply nevertheless.

Honestly, Rodney the Mischievous is pretty up there for me. It’s the perfect implementation of variation in the run without being too random
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I don't know. He seems kinda fun, but honestly, I would rather play with a strategy that I planned out than a random one each round.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I like Mark of Dalaran, Amalgamate and Nicky, the Retriever. These three look like they could be real treasures and provide a meaningful gameplay/strategy. The Last Lantern is nice flavor, but it would be probably hard to get it trigger. The rest is kinda meh for me, too strong or too gimmicky. Not saying i dont like gimmicks for PVE content, but these feel just weird. Personal opinion tho.

Personally i gave 4 5 stars and ill explain why
Mark of Dalran: This card gave me the inspiration to make my treasure (which didnt make it in) but the ability for is a really good one in general
Temple golem: realy op card and 100% if this was a treasure card i will pick it all the time
Archthevirey: love the concept of this although not a good viable treasure if i want to meme a run this is somthing i would pick
Rodney the mischevious: the concept is good and is a very creative design however like Archthevirey i dont think it will see play considering the swaping part and if you make a good run deck or selected some good treasures you probably dont want those to be nullified
TOTAL CORRUPTION
TOTAL POWAAAAAAA
I personally don't think Temple Golem is terribly OP. He is a 5 mana 5/5 reborn, which is fair. But the copying ability seems slow, and most of the time I would rather grab a passive treasure which is constantly helping me win rather than a single strong minion with a lot of stats.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
but the thing is the summon another one for each boss you defeated where on your 5th boss if you play temple golem you summon 5 5/5 with rush and reborn
i guess its just that we have diffrent ways to play dungeon run

I’m gonna comment quickly on the finalists. I won’t say how I rated them, but there are a few I’m a bit critical of.
Mark of Dalaran - A very powerful passive that would likely be offered late in a run. It might break some spell treasures. Not much else to say. Very fun and powerful.
Amalgamate - My card.
Temple Golem - This feels extremely strong late in a run. 5 mana make a sticky board. Great synergy with Rush, Taunt, and other minion buff passives. I feel like this should cost more.
Answer the Call - I like this one because it provides a number of cool effects and good minions but it’s not an instant game win. This could probably be slightly cheaper. Very fun and flavorful card.
Archthievery - No. Please no. It’s a fun idea for one time, but this ruins deckbuilding and will lose you runs. And it would take up slots from actual good treasures.
Nicky, the Retriever - I started off not liking this card, but honestly I think it’s fine. Fun effect but not super strong.
The Last Lantern - This is a last resort card, and summoning a 20/20 with no other effects will not save you games. Good flavor but this will be a dead card most games.
Rodney the Mischievous - For the same reason as Archthievery, this ruins deckbuilding. The RNG might get you better treasures when you need it, but it’s just as likely to screw you over. RNG can be fun (that’s what the dungeons are made of!) but this isn’t
I make bad custom Hearthstone cards sometimes.
I am pretty sure they don't have rush, if they did it would be pretty powerful. But as the card is now it isn't much more spectacular than any other treasure minion with a lot of stats.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I haven't had a chance to vote yet but I am really liking the look of Amalgamate (a straightforward effect that opens up a world of weirdness!) and Answer the Call (surprised this wasn't an official Tombs of Terror treasure).
I've seen a comment or two about The Last Lantern (my card) and totally agree with what's been said. It was very much designed as a flavour card to suit the catacombs and an interesting last resort that could potentially swing a run here or there, not a must-choose. In hindsight I could have made it slightly more playable if I had simply bumped up the cost to (4) or (5) and removed the empty hand mechanic. Honestly, I'm just happy it's even been mentioned and that you guys like the flavour :)
Finally, congrats to everyone in the finals and well done to everyone who submitted a design! This was a fun competition theme - already looking forward to what Shivershine comes up with for next week.
Started playing HS in May, 2015. The bad news: I missed the excitement of 'Naxx out?' and GvG. The good news: I never met an Undertaker.
I think I may be the only one who doesn't like amalgamate. I like the interesting yet simple design, and it is a pretty neat effect that can be used in a lot of ways. The only thing I don't like about it; it is a dungeon run treasure. When you cannot build your own deck, this ability just feels super irrelevant 90% of the time. There is no way I would ever pick this over something like "all minions get buff X". So while it is a very interesting card that has a lot of potential and a ton of different interactions with different tribal buffs, I just don't see this card EVER happening in a dungeon-run style format.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Mark of Dalaran makes it so your spells have permanent Echo, since the effect also applies to the Twinspell copy...
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
I also thought about this as well. The original version I had was worded to circumvent that.
Everyone on Discord though told me that it didn't need it, so I posted it without it.
Beyond that, I don't think it's that difficult to deduce what the intention was.
Oh, I didn’t know it was YOU who made the card! Sorry if I sounded rude. But yeah, this doesn’t work mechanic-wise
Make The Cow King an alternate Warrior skin plz
Seconded, you're not alone ;-) I only gave 5 stars once and that was for The Last Candle. The RNG competitors are too much for my taste and I found the flavor of this card so great it deserves to win. I'm a bit sad that Bazaar Break didn't make it (and my own submission of course ;-))

I also liked the minion with Overkill, thought that would have made quite a few of the challenger shrines much easier to deal with. Since it's an auto-remove it's not like it would hang around too long either; I thought it was balanced as far as treasures go.

I like the other finalists here, a lot of cool ideas. I think this was a harder theme to come up with cards for because of the power level being a whole lot higher than normal. But I like the ideas that everyone came up with (Mark of Dalaran and Rodney being my two favorites). May the best card win!

I would really like to have a music themed competition where you would have to make a card based off of a song.
Or you could do some other kind of pop-culture type thing where you make a card based off of a movie/book. Or maybe even another game. But I think I would enjoy music the best.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
That one with discarding 5 cards on overkill was busted as hell, would be pure easy mode from the moment you played it since it was an 8/8 for 5 mana if im not mistaken, so it would trigger multiple times. You would have to be really unlucky for the opponent to have an immediate answer, which most bosses dont.

Pop-culture competitions are notoriously difficult to manage, because not everyone has experienced the same things. What if you make a card referencing a book no one else has read, or reference a "classic" movie that not everyone remembers? It's doubly difficult because our website is not relegated to a particular nation. Someone who visits Out of Cards from the United States might have read/heard/watched different things than someone from Norway, England, France, Japan, or wherever.
We had similar prompts in the past at HearthPwn, and they were a bit of a mess :(
Pretty much what Linky said, tho pop-culture references, if done right (in any theme), can be obviously a big plus for the creator and can garner more votes, Blizzard does them too after all.

Go figure I'd win my own competition, lol.
I apologize if this competition was too hard for a lot of people. In retrospect, this competition might've been too hard for it only being the second one on this site.
Congrats Demonxz! Your card was great, I'm kind of surprised they didn't have that in the actual Dalaran Heist.

You can't get better at something without a little challenge! It was a pretty major step in difficulty compared to week 1, but it was still a lot of fun and there were a lot of great cards submitted!
