About using HearthArena

Submitted 5 years, 6 months ago by

I've played around 70+ arena runs so far, and I didn't use heartharena because I was learning out the game-mode. However, in each game, there's some sort of a skill-cap on what you can learn by yourself, and what you can learn by using guides etc...

So should I use HearthArena or not? It does feel a little counter-intuitive as it would make me a worse player, too dependant on the thing.

So far I believe the consensus is to use the tierlist for the firsr 10/15 cards, and then pick the rest more according to what your deck is lacking. And then, when you get better and better, you might pick differently than the list. I'd try it out, don't think it'll hurt in the long run. I rarely play arena, but when I do I use lightforge's tierlist while drafting.

I used it a lot and it improved my arena skills greatly! If you care for constant good results, use it.

Since i play mostly on mobile now, i don’t use it anymore but results haven’t changed that much. So i wouldn’t say that it will make you a worse player in the long run. It just opens your mind to some cards and lets you rethink the value of others.

if you use it and just sit there picking whatever it tells you without looking at the other cards than yes it would dull your skills.

I like to use it, but I also draft with my brain too. I don't always pick what it tells me, I will look at the cards, and then make a decision based on the cards tier, my current deck, and what HearthArena says. and it has helped me to become a better arena player.

my first 3 runs after downloading heartharena were 11 wins, 8 wins, and 6 wins or something like that. I just remember getting 3 drafts and still having 40 gold left over.

It or another sort of tier list like lightforge are good tools, but you dont want to rely on them too heavily. Heartharena does acknowledge synergies and mana curve if it knows what cards you are choosing, but it's not perfect so you should always consider these things before you make your choices. Over time you will remember which cards are valuable and what works well together with cards you've already picked.

The base scores are mostly correct.

The deck building algorithm that is used to adjusted the scores can be wildly off.

The app is a good second opinion, but it will be less and less useful as you become better and more experienced.

Yeah, as Boozor said, HA is a great tool to give you an idea how you should draft in Arena. But the more experience you get, the more you should stop following its suggestions, unless they align with your reasoning why pick that card. HA skews heavilly towards any kind of synergy, often very unrealistic one or one that is not rly worth it, over just solid standalone cards. You should get an idea what synergies are worth it over time, so you can then decide for yourself what you should be goin for and what you should skip.

I mostly know the value of each individual card and how they could interact together, but am completely clueless on how many of each type of card should go into a deck, or how to fill a mana curve. For me, HearthArena really helps here. I usually don't ignore any draft advice when it says I "really need an x drop".

That is also one of the things that becomes not entirely accurate with time. It heavilly depends on the meta shaped by the current card pool and then the class you are playing. Some classes in the past literally didnt need any 2-drops for example, when control RNGfiesta was the way to play. HA usually tries to push you towards midrange or tempo deck, which is fine, but you need to assess your own situation and know what archetypes are working for any given class at the moment and decide if it is a right direction to go or not.

Again, for unexperienced arena player, HA is a really amazing tool to help them get more wins fast and to get better, but you shouldnt religiously follow its advice once you get some experience ;-) Not saying HA cant be right most of the time, but you should think of why it appears to be important for your deck to pick the suggested card, not just pick it cause the app said so :)

I think it's a real hassle to enter everything in HA (I play mobile only) so I use it only when I need to re-establish my bearings. Since the rotation I really need it.

Long story short, if you haven't used HA you probably should, even if only to check what all the other people are using.

Oh yeah, if you dont use the Overwolf app, it is a pain in the ass to input everything manually.
