Hearthstone's upcoming expansion, Scholomance Academy, will be launching on August 6th, 2020 and with that, we'll have it added to the Arena's list of available expansions.
The arena will continue to not rotate sets as we saw last year, continuing the Standard trend with the following sets included in the drafting pool:
- Basic
- Classic
- Rise of Shadows
- Saviors of Uldum
- Descent of Dragons
- Galakrond's Awakening
- Ashes of Outland
- Demon Hunter Initiate
- Scholomance Academy
What do you think about this old-new state Arena is in right now and going to be for the foreseeable future? Do you prefer Arena to be Standard only or did you enjoy the rotating sets?
I think both have their pros and cons and at this point, I might like them both equally. Being Standard only will definitely be easier for most people to get into it, but not being able to revisit some old friends (and enemies) is a shame. One thing I do miss is the 2-month rotations instead of the old 4-month ones, shorter rotations meant the meta got refreshed more often.
I suppose with a large portion of community expecting the new game mode that is to come this year to feature rotating sets in some form, the Year of the Dragon in Arena might had been a testing period for how could such an environment look like and they decided that it was enough data for now, returning to the old ways starting with Year of the Phoenix. We could even see revamp of Arena in some way with the new game mode. Who knows? Exciting things on the horizon. Or so I hope.

I kind of liked how the wild sets spiced things up in Arena ..
I'd prefer rotation instead of standard sets. My biggest issue with standard was that it felt stale since you see (mostly) the same cards in constructed and arena. The set rotation kept the arena meta much more fresh but it also ensured the two game modes (constructed/arena) felt very different. Hopefully they'll return to the rotating format once DH has a more robust card base?
I had been hoping they would introduce rotating sets for years before they actually did and when it happened it became one of my favorite things about the format. I'm still enjoying it but would much prefer it if they re-introduced rotations.
The rotating mixed sets were the best thing for arena. At least for me it’s when I played it the most. I wonder if this means we’re going to get a similar format for constructed play. Rotation of select sets every couple months. I’d play the heck out of that.
I miss the 2 monthly rotations due to free ticket (and hence pack) - must be disappointing to regular arena players who love a more exciting meta.
Will there be the retired arena run where one gets the free pass? I like scams, I mean.... Scams like that.
Yup, there should be.
Maybe it is just me, but I preferred Arena when it was Wild. I mean, with all sets, not with the rotating rule. It makes sense though, to keep it standard now for the Demon Hunter's sake.
Disappointing that Blizzard was not able to keep up with their promises of consistent rotations and leaderboard blogs. Hopefully there will be some other Arena news soon.
I think they're keeping it Standard right now so that Demon Hunter isn't unplayable in Arena. Though I suppose they could have Ashes, Scholo, Initiate, and then a few wild sets.
if they want they can keep outland and illidari but rotate shadow, uldum and dragon.
Arena right now is kinda meh. It's fun, its balanced (for the most part), but if someone is able to grab 1 of 5 or 6 cards, it is an autowin.
I'm also so tired of twin tyrant. DQA also but mostly twin tyrant. It's almost traumatizing att this time with the swing it makes. Otherwise having fun with the format and its going well but would be so happy if it got HoF:ed. And unlike dragonmaw poacher wasnt discoverable.
two words: twin tyrant!
Welp, too bad. I liked the variety and mix-up from time to time.
I don't play Arena much but the mix-up of sets and a shorter cycle was definitely a pro for me. I hope they revisit the concept again someday.
Woah the author of this post is a secret achievement!
Trying to figure out if that is real, or if sinti is trolling us...
