I've played literally too many games to count since the patch. I've played all f-ing weekend. It must have been 100 games by now. I'm at the point where I'm just tanking my MMR conceding to try to find the new hero.
I payed real money for "perks." Why can't I play the new content? This is really frustrating.
Hey, I went to the achievements section and redeemed all of those, and then I was able to use all of the treasures! Try that if you have treasures still locked. Wish Blizzard would add an auto-redeem achievements button. I hate having to go scroll around and click them!
I've been playing Duels pretty much exclusively since the expansion launch, so let me tell you: Yes, it can get better - a lot!
There's still a ton of balancing that needs to be done. Like, some HPs are very overpowered, while others are just embarrasingly weak, there's treasures that are pretty much auto-pick, no matter what your deck does, while others are just completely useless, and then there's also a lot of trash buckets, that leave you wondering "what the hell?" (example: I played a lot of Rogue, and for some reason I get a Taunt buckets fairly often. I'm playing Weapon/Combo! What am I supposed to do with 5 Mana+ Taunts??).
Something else that should be looked at more is bans. Imo, there's more cards that deserve to be banned from that format than just Self-Sharpening Sword. C'Thun, the Shattered and Tour Guide are on my personal list.
I hope the Devs can gather enough data from these first seasons to improve Duels, because it has some really great potential! It combines the deckbuilding challenges that comes with rotating sets, and the crazy unpredictability of a dungeon run, which could be such a fun game mode.
Although I can't really comment on its quality from a decade ago, I only played a bit during Ikoria and Zendikar, MTG is pretty much the apex predator in the whole card game biz when it comes to art. I really like how much they got to offer on that. Not just in-game, with alternate card art and such, but also outside of it, with dozens of articles and blogs that talk about the creation process.
It's also really interesting to see how the card art has evolved. I mean, the difference between then and now so huge, it almost feels like you're looking at two different games. A great example for that imo is Nicol Bolas. Take his first card, where he looks like some old, dopey bookworm, and compare that with his modern badass-elder-dragon-god design. That stark contrast is kinda funny!
And in regards to expansion flavour: I'm excited to give the game another go later on this year! I sadly won't have the time for Kaldheim and the set after that, but, if i can believe what I've read, there's gonna be a gothic horror expansion during autumn, and I'm all up for that!
For me the problem was that enemies were usually the same exact combination, or if it was a random one? From the Swamp and Canival Treasures literally all the time.
You need all the latest cards to unlock the hero powers and treasures. You need all wild cards to build a competitive deck. You still have to pay 150 gold to enter heroic mode. Your run has failed before your first match if you don't get one of the broken hero/power/treasure combinations.
And what do you get from it? Monthly leaderboard? Fancy stats screen? Invites to great competitions?
It really needs to change.
(and as I got blasted for at the start for saying; it is not f2p friendly, is it, hmm....)
The only way I see to really boost the Duels scene, would be if there would be a lower/no fee for entry, and the reward would be lower, and capped to X a day/week.
IE: You can only claim your duels rewards once a week and the maximum reward is cut by half, and so on for lower rewards. There should be a reward for the maximum wins achieved in the week and if you didn't win anything/insta conceded or played one run and win just one match and left the run, no reward. Just to incentivice people to at least give it a solid try each week and try different decks and stuff.
I say this about rewards/monetization of the system, because it is already monetized from your card collection, no only about having a wild collection (which I don't care because I'm a wild player) but they really killed the mode when they required X amount of cards of the current set to be owned to be able to play different treasures.
I think Duels can be fun, but now that all the top strategies have been posted online, it feels same-y all the time, same builds, same heroes used. No real way to adequately combat those if you stray, or if your matchup is bad, just a total stomping. It gets dull quickly, unfortunately.
I got bored of it quite quickly even after the expansion of treasures and hero powers. Even with the variables the game felt stale. I haven't played the format in weeks.
I got back into MtG about a year ago and was thrilled with how the art has evolved. One of the biggest differences is the diversity of characters to create very cool art. I don't mean this to be a political comment, but when I used to play every human was white and very boring looking. Elves were white, demons were black, goblins were red. It honestly started becoming extremely boring after playing a few years when I was younger.
Now there is a lot of diversity with the cast of characters and looks. They also seem to be a lot better at shaking up the art and flavor expansion to expansion. The newest expansion coming out is a great example, check out that heavy metal and Norse themed artwork. Another big improvement for the digital game (and I believe many are also available for physical cards) is the alternate art. It's not just the same art or character with a slightly different pose, they have dynamic art choices to imagine the characters completely differently. They have certain cycles of art like the stained glass cycle or the heavy metal God cycle in Kaldheim.
I felt they stagnated a decade ago but have really stepped up the game to remain competitive.
IMO the Envoy Warlock deck is actually worse off with Quest and plot twist. Sure they can make it so you draw 0 cost primes, but it's 3 cards that effectively do nothing in your hand or game. In a meta where every turn matters, even with decent control tools I find that the 3 cards just don't do enough to warrant legend competitiveness (sure it's fine for climbing from bronze to diamond).
Considering that the list above includes other cards like Sky General Kragg and Kelidan it just feels like a very weak version of the deck that tries to do too many things and dilutes it's ability to compete effectively. In the version I'm running I still use some of the soul fragments for life gain (instead of armor vendor) and currently at a 58% winrate purely in legend (~rank 5-6k).
Another Fact: In the Free Medivh fight in One Night in Karazhan you used to be able to not use Sacrificial Pact on the final phase of the boss, but it actually was once buffed with custom text (the boss would go .... as if they've been silenced) if killed with Sacrificial Pact.
This changed once again once Sacrificial Pact was nerfed to only hit friendly minions, thus restoring the difficulty of that boss.
Awww man, some of the memory you brought back <3 #nostalgia Also, some neat new pieces of info. I knew the WoW TCG was very influential, but didn't knew they took so much liberty with it.
I thought I actually removed that a while back, that's my bad.
It's not going to happen at this point so please spend away. January has just been too busy and stuff was not prepared in advance for the release. Poor judgment on my part assuming there would be some time to knock out a load of more rewards.
Snowflakes will still be usable next event though all old (current) rewards will have their costs increased so you are better off buying old rewards now (this was mentioned during the Halloween event).
I'm halfway through level 147. Still averaging 1-2 levels a day, and enjoying this period of experimentation on the ladder. I made Wild Legend earlier in the month and have been hovering between Diamond 2-4 since the expansion dropped, so I don't mind playing suboptimal decks as I grind the new XP achievements before next month.
For some builds it's the only way you can actually get enough time (the reconnect thing anyway, the firewall bit seems a bit much imo). Best way to fix it would be to give everyone the full turn time, then there would be no reason to use it
Yeah, that one is hilarious. Only had one game, but that was a 20 minutes monster of a match against a Control Priest that went deep into fatigue. I've played 14 Primes although my opponent Plague of Deathed at least 3 Rustwixes. Wasn't even bad to lose lol.
I just want to play greybough.

Duels ruined? Bar too high for new treasures.

Outstanding Legends of Runeterra Community Decks From January
Wow, thanks for the official mention in a site article! I have to admit, I never expected that :)

I can't imagine the number of reused arts - I went through every single card of WoW TCG and I've found 500+ reused arts.
More than five. Hundred. Arts.

Mecha'thun Secret Mage!
Not sure why I'd take a perfectly viable Secret Mage and slow it down to pull an OTK when I can just win outright.

Wretched Tiller Hysteria OTK!
This deck is hilariously OP and fairly consistent. Better play it before the nerf.
Imprisoned Phoenix OTK
The Fireball suggestion would probably also be relevant for Raza Priest games.
