  • Can we talk about downvoting?

Just my two cents. How I do upvote/downwote

Most of the comments I just read.

If I like the comment, I upvote.

If I think the comment is aggresive or offtopic I downvote.

EDIT: I just realized I downvote when I strongly disagree with a comment if someone already responded with my thoughts. Basically to me these are Agree - Disagree buttons.

I played a lot of Corrupt Warlock to get the achievment (Play 500 corrupt cards) and it is actually a fun and viable deck. In mirror matchups who gets the Tickatus first wins. But I do not encounter that much of them on ladder.

Turns out the update matters mostly for the end portion of the track. Only those that have advanced a lot will feel any substantial difference. The changes are very small for the people lagging behind. So, they are mostly rewarding the people that are playing more. Their whole idea is to make it so people have to sink more time into the game if they want to be rewarded. Fair enough. I have other games to play so i'm not putting much time into it. That's not going to change.

Actually this is not true, they reduced the XP needed for levels 40+ from 5000-9000 to 5000 each level. Which is OK change.

DH especially has been pretty crazy. Basically all of my DH runs were significantly above average and I managed a couple of easy 12 wins. Being offered DH already was a significant advantage in my mind. The class has lots of good cards but for me the most broken was Expendable Performers which won me the game many times.

    People are still playing Arena?

  • Post Nerf Meta

I'm actually seeing a LOT of different decks while climbing ladder. But the decks that i find most common so far are Totem Shaman, C'thun rogue and Mill/control warlock. (And to my surpice a lot of millocks i played against were playing Sathrovarr to copy their Y'Shaarj, the Defiler in case of mirrors)

To my surprise Soul and Aggro DH completely died because of the nerfs, i thought it would still see a lot of play.. But i only came across Aggro DH once while trying out a deck in casual. So that's really nice, I really like this pre-nerf meta so far and i love seeing no DH on ladder! :)

  • Too short timer!

The most accurate quote from Bob is "let's see if you can stay on top". The odds seem to favor winning most of the time.

On topic: i think the timer for the first few turns should be decreased by like 10-15seconds. And increased by 10 seconds on the treasure turns.

Actually, I would do this very differently: with a "ready" button and an increased overall turn timer (like 5 seconds starting on turn 4-5). This way games can go faster instead of waiting for stuff when no one is doing anything.

The "ready" button could even be pressed automatically when the player doesn't have anything else to do. But i guess the issue comes up with the tavern freeze mechanic.

Example #1: I posted a deck a few weeks ago, and upvoted myself. Someone else came along and downvoted it. No comment or anything. What's the point? If you don't like the deck, offer some constructive criticism. Why was it worth someone's time to just randomly downvote a deck?

In general, when voting on forums was first introduced it was to prevent spammy posts. Would you rather have a downvote or the village idiot going around saying THIS SUCKS or a posting a poop emoji on a deck. I'd rather have the downvote.

That's not to cover sincere voting yea or nay on a deck and why someone may feel it's important to contribute or not.

People do that anyway though? Make a thread talking about anything and one of the first comments will be someone saying "salt thread

There are no Priest minions with Rush, IIRC, unless you count that one Lackey. I like the effect well enough, but the package as a whole is a hard sell.

I was a bit afraid the flavor wouldn't be understood, but it was my main focus actually :/ In fact, I thought of the flavor first and the effect last.

Okay, so the Boogey Man and similar folklore characters do either one of these two things: eat children or kidnap them. Since the previous incarnation of The Boogeymonster was focused on eating, I decided to make a new one based on kidnapping.

I agree that it is a bit weird in Priest flavor-wise, but I don't think it comes close to Micro Mummy being a Paladin card levels of weird xD

There is zero chance we'll ever let anyone see who is upvoting and downvoting content. In my experience, it just leads to harassment when people go after those that downvoted them. It creates a toxic atmosphere, especially when you downvote someone trolling and that troll now knows who "got their jimmies rustled" so they can go after them. Preventing that scenario from even happening is A+ in my book.

Upvoting yourself is an odd one, I will agree. The reason behind it though, which I know I've mentioned in the past somewhere but since we have a fresh thread on it let me repeat it, is because it gives us more flexibility. If you go through the deck database, not many people upvote their own decks. I'm willing to wager if a person doesn't upvote their own deck initially, there is a higher chance it isn't a deck worth looking at. Maybe someone is using the site to catalog decks they like. It's sort of a power-user feature so people that know it exists and are writing good deck content can make use of it to get themselves higher in the initial rankings.

Now, upvoting your own comments just comes from the silliness that is us using the same voting system for everything on the site. It might be a bit strange, but honestly, we'd just be starting everyone at +1 anyway without it so its another opportunity for people to signal boost themselves if they think they wrote something worth seeing.

Ultimately though, the points don't matter much and its just something fun. It's super easy feedback to give since it is low effort and if people really need to upvote themselves, I'm okay with it =D

I mean is there a possible realm where we move away from the current internet meta of "liking/upvoting/reacting" to everything?  Can we possibly go back to a "good ole days" era where there were no likes/upvotes on comments.  People make comments, and people respond.  If people don't like the comment, they can reply and say "you are wrong and here's why".  If people troll, we just use the report button to report the people who troll.

The problem inherent with "liking/voting/etc" systems is that it panders to , frankly speaking, the Facebook type of crowd that can't be bothered to respond to a picture of a family member, so they just like it instead.

Maybe if the downvoting is the problem, we just get rid of "liking or disliking" comments altogether.  After all, comments are opinions:  sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they are right, but they are opinions.  And people are allowed to make their opinions heard if they so wish, correct?  As someone mentioned earlier, there was a problem with someone or some people mass downvoting news thread comments.  And they most likely didn't contribute to the thread themselves.  If we removed the ability to like/dislike a comment, wouldn't that solve the issue? It would force the people who don't want to contribute, and instead just want to downvote people they disagree with to actually formulate an opposing opinion and write it down...

And if the mass downvoters/trolls/whatever they are get pushed away by a new environment that doesn't have like/dislike buttons, then that's better overall for the community anyhow isn't it?

    Just a thought.

I don't disagree! I miss the old school parts of the net :D

With that said, the voting is so much better to engage more members of the community and therefore keeping more people around. Sometimes just having conversations isn't enough and doesn't feel as rewarding. Look at achievements on the site - they don't really matter much but people love to complete them and it creates more attachment since you get to work towards something.

Gamification is a big deal online now. Keeping people around and building healthy communities with it is so important.

I am seeing almost nothing but Paladins (Diamond tier). I've been playing Totem Shaman and various druid decks in standard and mage decks in Wild. I've not run into the warlock string for whatever reason.

I think this would be solved if you could click on the number and see who upvoted or downvoted your post. When i upvote myself in a thread i usually try to do it only once at the first time, because people are more likely to read my WALL OF TEXT if it looks like someone else has read it and agreed with my point. After that i don't really care. Fake internet points don't really matter. I upvote my own decks if i make descriptions and think people should see them and leave my ones i am testing or don't care about to die at 0 or below. But even then it's better to put a comment on them saying "Hope you like it" or something like that because they'll appear on the forum section(or at least they used to) on the front page.

It could be used in some cases to harass the users by the person who was the target of the downvote. Also it could create a feeling to "trade upvotes", or "being mentally pressured into upvoting a comment for the same person who upvoted you so they dont take offense", we've had that before. There are reasons both to display and not display it.

I would agree if upvoted mattered, which they don't. I have been the subject of many, MANY downvote mobs even when i was making obvious jokes(i made a joke about an otk using 2 cards from 2 different classes, i proceeded to be downvoted into oblivion because people didn't understand that the fact it was impossible to generate both cards was the joke.) and it doesn't matter. It did not discourage me from stating my opinion on the subjects i was downvoted in. I still say aggro needs to be toned down and control doesn't need to be deleted. And whether the system is implemented or not where people know who EXACTLY downvoted you. The person being downvoted knows who it is most of the time. There are about 3 people i see regularly on this site that downvote me no matter what i say. And unlike someone above i don't report them for doing so i just think they're pathetic.

I was not very happy with some of the cards and after the feedback decides to dump them and keep only the Face Collector one.

Made some changes in the art and in the name (that in was pretty difficult, how do you give a name to something that don't have a identity?) and made a new one with Myra.

    Some feedback tomorrow.

Wow... That statement about Arena balance sounded incredibly lazy. They didn't even bother to mention the problematic cards whose appearance rates were decreased. It sounded like: "Hey guys! We are fixing Arena! What is changing? You can guess! Trust us, everything will be fine now!". Just... wow...

The last 48 hours I've seen the same number of paladins I did pre-DH nerf.  1 or 2 druids. A handful of 'mill' warlocks all running tickatus *eyeroll*.  But by far the most proliferate class is evolve shaman.  So bloody annoying.  They either get the nuts draw and you generally can't do anything about a full board of 2-10 cost minions (depending on if they drew the 9 cost 3/4 that gets cheaper with minions on board) or they somehow never draw their knuckles and you run over them easily.

I've still run into a few OTK warriors as well, but yea, not nearly as many as one would have seen before.

  • Original Character, Do Not Steal - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread

This prompt was really tough to find a good idea for, but I came up with an idea for a Nefarian card I was really proud of. Then I realized I couldn't use Nefarian so I took a day and came up with something else.

I did the both hands to fit with the both players draw of the original Genzo, the Shark. I don't know if it really fits Genzo but the art looks close enough and I couldn't come up with other ideas so here we are.

Feedback time (I'm reviewing the cards whether or not they fit the rules):

    Show Spoiler

BloodMefist: I think it's a good power level, annoying for your opponent to deal with without being ridiculous. I like it.

Wailor: The Boogeymonster is finally playable! I like it, good effect that fits the class.

FieselFits: I'm not feeling it in the current state, since once you get to 10 mana it's a 5 mana board fill. If you're gonna use this design at least change it so it spends the unspent mana to summon the Jade Golems.

CursedParrot: It's a good effect, but I feel like the statline really doesn't benefit it since it'll probably die on the next turn (also fix it to "random discarded card").

bangyakunoSquash: Good effect, but the benefit is mixed by the odd requirement because now you have to have an exact amount of reduces to be usable.

MenacingBagel: This is a cool one and a good twist on Sherazin. The only recommendation I'd give is to change the wording a bit to "It stays Dormant while you control this".

DavnanKillder: The wording on Puppeter (Puppeteer?) Dorian doesn't clarify if it summons a silenced 1/1 copy or a 1/1 copy then silences the original. You'll have to change the name of the Face Collector to differentiate it more from the original. Queen Ashmore is the best out of the three IMO.

DestroyerR: Baku the Eldritch is a really weird one but I think it could lead to some really interesting deck design. Flark is an issue because if you summon the wires for yourself there's nothing your opponent can really do to stop it.

fungusABao: Kun could work well if it only affected your own minions, but after you reach a certain stat then playing him could give your opponent lethal if they have anything on board. Shudderwock could work, but why doesn't he have a Dragon tag?

SLima: Toki is really powerful, but I think the random targets helps balance it out. Well done.

linkblade91: I think the effect is powerful enough to warrent knocking it down to a 4/4 or 3/3.

Demonxz95: I'd go with Captain Patches, it's a good effect and a reason to play Pirate decks. Also if you go with Whizband, change the name: that artwork is not at all whimsical.

BloodMefist - Arfus seems fine, balance-wise. I'm not a fan of the art, but this will be a difficult week for such things so I understand.

Wailor - The Boogeymonster is garbage, so anything better than that is alright in my book lel. "(T)he Kidnapper" is a weird direction to take him, and Priest is especially weird flavor-wise, but mechanically it makes sense…I think? There are no Priest minions with Rush, IIRC, unless you count that one Lackey. I like the effect well enough, but the package as a whole is a hard sell.

FieselFitz - I would not summon Jade Golems outside of Mean Streets of Gadgetzan, personally, but a one-off callback isn't entirely out of the question. She doesn't use up the Mana, though, so this might be a powerful turn-10 play considering you still have 5 mana left to play with.

bangyakunoSquash - Welcome to the Fan Creations side of things, and with your first post too :D Cool art for the card, with the moon in there and everything. The name is weird, though, and there appears to be no watermark behind the text. The gameplay is neat, at least.

MenacingBagel - I'm not a fan of Sherazin because it seems to take away from what makes Gral, the Shark and Maiev Shadowsong special :( It's neat in its own way, but might not survive long given the amount of removal lying around at the moment.

DavnanKillder - Face Collector was originally a Rogue minion, so the new iteration being a Shaman minion is suspect. I also agree with Demon in-that Dorian is too close to The Nameless One mechanically-speaking. That leaves Ashmore; the Battlecry should probably say "Discover a Royal Servant to summon.", but beyond that it seems good.

DestroyerR - Flark is cool and interesting, but isn't there an adventure boss fight that does the same thing? I could've sworn there was, anyway. Either-way, I'd go with him; seems like strong finalist material.

fungusABao - I will echo what others have said about Kun, being from the same set as the original. Shudderwock is inherently interesting, but fundamentally flawed because Dragons are mostly about their Battlecries. I think if you change him to embrace this quality - without just rehashing his original Battlecry - you'd have a strong card. But don't name him "the Dragon" and then not make him a Dragon lol :P

SLima - We always like to see new faces :D I think the effect is really cool; my only complaint is that she should not be from the same set as the original Toki. Change that, and I think you're well on your way to finalist material.

Wailor - Giving a Warlock version of Saraad the title of "Soul Collector" but not making him related to Soul Fragments seems like a disconnect, personally. He could be something like a DH/Warlock card that says "Whenever you use your Hero Power, shuffle a Soul Fragment into your deck." That would be cool, and callback to his Inspire effect. As your cards currently stand, though, I would go with Megafin.

Demonxz95 - We don't have a "Play a Random Deck" functionality, so I like Whizbang. Having to own him for that is a bit of a bummer, but then again so was having to own the original Whizbang.
