I think that they really should have gone farther with these changes. They didn’t nerf cards like MF, Jagged Butcher, or any of the Bilgewater Burn cards.I also wish they had buffed the Demacia Dragons (make the Broodmother a 6/7 and Kadregrin a 9/8) because Shyvana is pretty much the only good Demacia Dragon.
I'm fine with the nerfs so far, I'm so tired of Riptide Rex so any nerfs to that damn card are much welcomed. I think the change to Vlad isn't going to do anything. In fact they kind of made it harder to level him. Prior to this change you could level him by playing followers to the left, and having him go last, meaning that he could level up mid combat, which in some instances would help save him.
Now with his "power" requirement being that followers and others have to be to the right, he has to attack "first" (or sooner) in the attack lineup. This means he has less chance of leveling up in combat prior to taking a hit which can make the difference. Overall, I think they changed him and didn't really help him at all and he'll probably still not see any play. Making his leveling condition easier was never the real issue.
One of the devs said the pally secret was one of their favourite cards in the set (I think in response to a question about whether they were planning to take secrets away from the class in the Basic/Classic overhaul next year), and I was wondering what 1 mana effect could ever be interesting enough to earn that. Well, now we are here, it did not disappoint.
The variance is large, but you at least have some idea of how badly things can go at any given mana cost, so you can actually make contingency plans. So on this occasion I'll let the 'cast a random spell' RNG pass.
Screeching Dragon and Dragonguard Lieutenant was honestly carrying the archetype. Shyvana was a horrible card because she can't level up and dies without doing much as a 3/4, making her a 4/4 makes the archetype slightly better but I agree they could've been bolder with more changes. Though I think we're asking for too much already, especially with such a huge amount of Champion changes.
It's interesting to me that they increased Shyvana's attack and not her health. The biggest problem I find playing her is that her L1 form is so easy to kill off -- it's risky to block with her due to tricks like Pale Cascade / Sharpsight / Riposte, and since she doesn't have Fury yet on the attack it's usually pretty easy for your opponent to chump block for 2-3 damage and then challenge / Mystic Shot / etc for the rest.
An interesting viewpoint, and possibly not wrong. I'm guessing they have access to metrics we can't see so for now I'm going to reserve judgement in that they know what they are doing. I don't think it's wrong to buff her attack, the reasoning behind it according to the notes was that she couldn't kill things "cleanly" (i.e. being a 4 mana 3/4 champion that self buffs to 4/5 wasn't that great for a level 1 ability). Now she is a 4 mana 4/4 chamption that self buffs to 5/5.
Far too often I felt like I'd play her, only for my opponent to play Fused Firebrand completely shutting her out. It's kind of funny that a "common" dragon ends up being more effective than a champion and can usually be played the turn after. And the worst side is, she can't even use any removal or combat based attacks to remove a Fused Firebrand.
Overall this at least let's her threaten 5/5's. It's not like her role is aggro, but rather mid-range.
Shyvana is a bit of a weird card. Weak when she's in her base form but incredibly strong in her Leveled Up form. I think that buffing the Level Up condition would've been nice but I think that the Attack buff is much better because it technically makes her do more Dragon damage by herself, lowering that Level Up condition by 1 or 2 on average while giving her much more relevance in the midgame.
Great fun card for murloc shaman, but i don't think this will see any play outside of decks with murlocs. The only murloc shaman uses outside of murloc decks is Sludge Slurper. BUT i feel like they might add a few more murloc related things this expension. After all, this is like the 3rth or 4th shaman card revealed so far? Who knows? Maybe they will ad a "summon 3 1/1 murlocs with rush" card, if they do, then Magicfin will be a great value card. Actually the only card that has a similar effect is Call in the Finishers. The only other synergy i can think of is that this could be a "hand refill" for aggro shaman decks, after their opponent cleared their board, and now only have the 1/1s from Soul of the Murloc. Also this is one of the only murlocs that actually has normal/premium stats for it's cost. So that's really good.
Standard: Of course murloc shaman, and some other aggro shaman lists that include Soul of the Murloc. Might see play in value shaman IF shaman gets a card like Call in the Finishers or better.
Wild: This will 100% see play in Murloc shaman. Murloc shaman might not be THE most popular shaman deck in wild, but it still is one of shamans best archetypes and it has lots of support.
Strongman is probably the best card here. Just board wipe then swing with this is just insane.
Tickatus is really strong. But it requires a 7 or more mana play first, and the only likely card I can think off that does that is Twisting Nether. Plus, its nearly impossible to play in the same deck along with Deck of Chaos, arguably the stronger of the two cards.
Very good filler card for psychmelon in druid i think. potential synergy? idk i'll have to see when the entire set is out, but so far we have a lot of big 8 mana spells that lose tempo and this seems good to counter that, at least in theory.
Paladin Counterspell. If by some magic secret paladin becomes popular, I think that this might see some play. The fact that it randomises the target even if it turns a removal spell into another removal spell might be enough to try this effect.
New Paladin Spell - Oh My Yogg!
it'll be a great way to counter other paladins librams, but you'd probably prefer your opponent not to cast anything.
That said, since most spells in a deck are designed to help win them the game, so disrupting a board clear my be game winning.
I wonder if this could be a soft counter for c'thun decks - since you need to cast the broken pieces to assemble C'thun the Broken?
New Neutral Minion - Optimistic Ogre
Made me laugh, 5 stars!
New Paladin Spell - Oh My Yogg!
That's a tricky one to evaluate. Due to its sheer variance, I think we'll have to see it in practice before any definitive judgements can be made.

I like the Vladimir update, it's always nice to get more decision-making points. Not convinced if the change will help him, but I still like it.
Ezreal change seems...brave. Let's see how that'll work out.

I think you always get the 4/3 weapon shown under "Related Cards", so that's a good weapon.

As Yogg himself and Puzzle Box have shown, on average a random spell is beneficial for the caster, so Rhyssa would have anti-synergy.

Has potential to see play in any druid decks that were running Anubisath Defender. I doubt that any other classes have much use for this however.

Okay so Warlock will be the class for Y'Shaarj. Others are still lacking big enough Corruption payoffs.
