  • New Targon Landmark - Star Spring

    Quote From DoubleSummon
My point is to not panic when you see "win the game" other cards also have that text but not explicit...

Something saying "Win the game if X condition is fufilled" is always a cause for some alarm.  While other cards/champions may not have something EXPLICITY (since you seem to love that word I bolded it for you) written on them that wins the game, yes they may win the game none-the-less.

In your examples you listed ASol, Ezreal, Shudderwock.

One is from a different game that has very little counterplay available to it, so while I understand your premise, the games are far enough apparent in the way that they play that I feel like comparing the cards does very little for any actual discussion.....moving on to the other two.

Asol, while his level up ability is EXTREMELY powerful, can still be played around or beaten.  Ezreal, while his level up ability may enable some OTK combos, it does require the opponent to have the right cards in hand.  Many cards MAY implicity equate to winning the game, but don't actually tell the game engine: "Ok this game is over, cause this player fufilled X condition".   You can still play around things like Ez, Asol, Riptide Rex, etc.  And in fact, there's MANY ways to do this against all of those.

Against riptide rex you can go wide, or you can use direct healing to put yourself out of lethal range.  There's actually a lot that can be used to counter him.  Same goes for ez, asol, and other units.  In fact I'd argue that Fiora, who has a similar mechanic as Star Spring, is a good comparison because as a regular champion unit, many different things can interact with her.  Single combat, spells, etc.

The problem with star spring is that because landmark removal is most likely going to be at a premium, it's going to force the Targon region even more than before.  As if having Bastion (effectively a 3 cost deny for single target removal) wasn't strong enough, now they'll have a value generator (passive heal every round) and an alternate win condition.

Hell.  Decks that won't even run healing spells will probably run that landmark just because of the value it can generate over the course of a game and the small chance of an alternate win condition.  The only thing a landmark like that will do is either A) create a targon based meta, or B) create a hyper aggro meta.

  • New Targon Champion - Soraka

Looks good to me.. a lot of bildgewater cards got injured statlines so I guess that's the combo they want to have soraka in "naturally"

    but maybe also.. crimson?

No banana tokens? failed to translate soraka to LoR.

  • New Targon Spell - Astral Protection

Comparing this to Bloodsworn Pledge it doesn't seem all that great, but on certain units (such as Tahm Kench or Taric) it seems like it could be really powerful.

I think this is much better than Bloodsworn Pledge because most of the time with it was that you'd hit 1 follower instead of 2. It's more comparable to something like Fury of the North statswise. I can't really see this card being played as a 3 of though. Really hard to maximize the healing as well. I think this will be something like what Bastion was when it released, a card that sees some play as an odd pick in some meta decks.

I think that the main issue with the Alt win-con is the lack of self-damage and not the lack of healing. If the alt win-con deck ever becomes top tier it'll have to find ways to damage its own units because opponents will learn to just not allow units to be damaged during combat while Star Springs is on the board. Also, the Star Springs deck can't afford to be in Ionia, so Star Springs will be really vulnerable to Landmark Removal.

  • We're Playing Standard in This Week's Friday Night Magic

Always feel that "Standard" is a Friday Night copout.  Most players play standard.  Wish they would stick to different formats as well.

I get the feeling that Targon is gonna be a real annoying region to deal with.

  • New Targon Champion - Soraka

I'm excited to try this in a TF Targon deck, drawing 1 each round is really powerful.

  • New Targon Card - Stargazer

This honestly seems way better than Star Springs as a finisher. Just build up a big Star Shepherd and win the game. One thing to note is that this doesn't work with Star Spring, because Star Spring activates at Round End and not Round Start.

  • New Targon Spell - Wish

This card honestly seems really bad. It's super unlikely that you've have more than one damaged unit, in which case you'd prefer to just use Spring Guardian. Soraka herself also provides so much healing that Wish seems really unnecessary.

    @FortyDust

Star Spring only wins at end of round. I guess it being slow does allow the opponent to remove your units before it resolves though.

Looks fun with that Beefy Bayou Boi.

  • Soraka is the Newest Legends of Runeterra Champion Coming in Monuments of Power (4 New Cards)

I like Soraka, she can be a powerful draw engine (since she didn't have to 'see' all the heal to lvl up, right) and removing her requires real effort with those high health. Great champion.

  • New Targon Spell - Wish

Noxian Guillotine is going to be working overtime once we have this.

Ends games if Star Spring is on board and opponent can't finish off your units, so yes, it definitely had to be a slow spell.

  • New Targon Card - Stargazer

    1. Play after blocking opponent's attack.

    2. You win!

  • New Targon Spell - Astral Protection

This is nuts with Taric, even without Soraka.

Not only does it protect the target from fast or slow removal, but it makes the unit extremely hard to remove in the future.

  • New Targon Champion - Soraka

This is the support power I've always wanted!

Curves nicely into Taric, and can easily level up off the board, which is a huge plus.

That alt win-con isn't looking quite so hard anymore, is it?

  • Help with inserting infinite Fireheart Spells combo into decks

    Quote From dapperdog

You can already play a version of this in standard with double Dwarven Archaeologist, Marshspawn and Vulpera Scoundrel, fashion at cyberpunk with a few lackeys for consistency.

But having tried it myself, I can tell you that shaman losses board so easily without totems that the fireheart combo is usually just fireheart herself trying to find some removal spell asap or you die. At least that's in standard anyway.

Maybe its just my luck, but fireheart often just offer up expensive spells that I simply dont want to cast the same turn I play her. So double dwarfs doesnt usually make much difference.

yes this happens at times, you are saying right

Well, that's an interesting card. Usually, you want a support effect that helps you in the coming combat. This doesn't do that, at least not with newly summoned units.
