By that logic Fiora is unbalanced as a 3 Mana win condition and Maokai is unbalanced at 4 Mana. What balances this card and other low cost win conditions is that they take a long time to win. Realistically, restoring 22 Health to allies (which doesn't include the Nexus) will not be achievable in just a few turns. . The mana spent to actually complete this requirement is far higher than 2 mana, whether that be through including subpar cards or playing differently. And if it does get removed, then "level-up" requirement resets, so any deck that has Landmark removal can just wait for the opponent to invest in leveling a Star Spring and then remove it before the round ends. It's even entirely possible that playing for a huge Star Shepherd with Overwhelm or a Leveled Tahm Kench is a more reliable way to win with this card than achieving its requirement. If this card ends up being OP it will likely be because it can be played as an enabler for self-damage cards against more aggressive matchups and used as a win condition against control. Also, having two of these out at the same time would be very scary.
As long as they keep the RNG on meme cards I’m fine. I feel like Howling Abyss is honestly far less of a problem than Celestials or Bilgewater.
*Randomly gets Level 2 Sejuani* - who's a meme now?
Sejuani? that's what are you worried about? I'll take a level 2 Sejuani over a level 2 Maokai any day.
Level 2 Maokai is already leveled. He doesn't mill you. He's a 2/5 token generator with regen, and that's it. Similarly, Nautilus is already a 13/13 tough fearsome without being deep.
Just a reminder: the unreleased cards are in the deckbuilder, so you can theorycraft to your heart's content. Or if you want to check out what other people are scheming up, you can either click on the individual cards to see "5 Hot Runeterra Decks with Card X" or go Menu -> Decks -> Contains Card.
I have 189 Common Wildcards now (after having already crafted all the commons a while ago). I hope that they add some way to convert Wildcards to shards at one point because otherwise I think my Common Wildcard collection will grow faster than it shrinks (even if I craft all the commons in each expansion day 1).
I remember them confirming that Singular Will can also remove Landmarks. If Will of Ionia and Minah Switfoot can also remove landmarks, then it should be easy to remove them in Ionia.
I wonder if it fair to compare Aurelion Sol who is a 10 mana unit with Star Spring which is 2 mana and has narrow removal.
I mean in case it is quite easy to "level" star spring it is way more powerful/ opressive as a 2 mana card than a 10 unit isn't it?
Also is a comparison with Shudderwock odd since he is 1 out of 30 cards and 9 mana while Star Spring is 3 out of 40 cards and has tutors in the same region.
I never said combo/alternate winconditions are bad for a game but they need to be balanced and i doubt that 2 mana Star Spring is balanced
Guardian Druid might still be good enough for tournaments because it's easier to predict opponents and adjust accordingly. But the deck is struggling a lot on ladder after the nerf.
I'm not as much into playing underdog decks but i'm into testing underdog cards. I like to play with decks that i create even if they are not very good. I created a Highlander Control Shaman with King Phaoris and it's 12/12 (50% WR) but it's the most fun i had with a deck this expansion so far. I was lucky enough to open some of the legendary cards i wanted for the deck (Speaker Gidra and Instructor Fireheart) recently so i'm going to make some adjustments and see how it goes.
I'm also trying a Highlander Warrior with the bomb win condition but the main purpose was to test the effectiveness of Playmaker. The card is perfectly fine and can be pretty powerful but it's lacking support because of the rotation. There's only a few good targets available: Kargath Bladefist, Kargath Prime (with the help of a discount from Athletic Studies), Doctor Krastinov, Restless Mummy, Ruststeed Raider and Evasive Wyrm. If Zilliax was still around, it would be enough to make the card extremely powerful. The deck itself is currently at 9/6. Very small sample size so it's not really possible to tell if it's good or not.
I also made a Highlander Hunter with a bunch of spells just to test Professor Slate and Krolusk Barkstripper. Both are fine cards but Slate is suffering from the same problem as Playmaker. There aren't enough good spells available to justify adding him to a deck but he is very good at handling those big minions. I won quite a few games against Paladins that played their usual strategy of "apply big buff to minion and play Argent Braggart for cheap big boy" just to have their big guys instantly destroyed by Rapid Fire. This deck is 19/13, currently. It's actually quite old as i made it within the first week of the expansion and haven't played with it a lot.
I'm not playing Hearthstone as much recently as i decided to step away for some time to test Legends of Runeterra. I'm still doing my quests but that's it. Probably will only bother with climbing near the end of the month. The meta has been quite diverse but i'm not having a good time playing because of the constant presence of face decks (Face Hunter, Aggro Rogue and Aggro DH). I really hate those decks because playing against them is either a hopeless loss or a complete stomping victory but totally soulless. It always feels like a complete waste of time and i'm encountering them very frequently so i'm not getting any enjoyment whenever i play on ladder. At this point, i'm already in "Wait for next expansion" mode.
So I've been debating whether to take my card in another direction due to feedback of it being too swingy with getting a big minion with charge. I came up with another take on the idea, so let me know what you think (original on left for comparison).
The new Siren is much more control oriented, and plays more into the N'Zoth theming by letting you steal a specific Deathrattle from your opponent that N'Zoth could summon later. Let me know what you prefer (I'll try to come back tomorrow and give some more feedback).
Thank you for giving me a reason to recraft Shadowjeweler Hanar after its nerf. That being said, since I didn't have Jandice Barov and felt Galakrond, the Nightmare was just a 7 mana change Hero Power, I decided to slap in Bazaar Burglary (a different hero power) and two copies of Clever Disguise, because most of the thief Rogue package was already there (as for the third card to slash, I ended up slashing Fan of Knives, although I felt it was between it and Sap). I'm not sure exactly if these change made the deck better, but I had a lot of fun playing it and, in the end, that was the goal of the deck for me.
I am afraid that you missunderstood Star Spring: it doesn't progress as you heal your nexus. Therefore this list will almost never have Star Spring being a wincondition
there are a lot of cards that already actually say "win the game" just not explicit.
like for example Shudderwock if you played those 5 battlecries this game, win the game.
I mean sure it says "win the game" but an example in runettera can also be Aurelion sol level up.. which does basically the same.
alternate win conditions are interesting and this has further counterplay apart from removing this card itself.. to heal units you need units if you can control the board and kill units the player of this card can't heal.. another counterplay is the landmark removal which invalidates your deck if you rely too much on this win con.. also you ind of need to draw it early..
sure you can probably go late game with a burst heal of sort but combo decks.. are combo decks they exist in card games and it's fine.
While hawk is proably the better turn1 play shepard is better on every other turn and overall way more powerful of a card in this list. But anyways this deck seems decent:)
This is how a good removal spell should be not like that one that destroys summoned cards from shadow isles that has no use against some decks.. Have a backup plan..
Sadly after testing it more, the animation time makes it so that you rarely win before you run out of time. It’s funny to actually cast over 50 spells in one turn in solo play against a bot, but in ranked this deck will not have enough time to win even though conceptually it works. I am going to try and develop a new deck using the Fireheart potentially infinite spells concept but where it’s not necessary to have that as your only win condition
Hey folks, who is up for some good old meta discussion? It’s the third ladder climb in the Scholomance academy and I gotta say, there are still some things to discover!
We all know the top dogs by now. Different variations of hunter, libram paladin, tempo mage, a couple rogues and DH of course.
In grand masters, druid and bomb warrior see a lot of play but I haven’t seen either of those in probably 20-30 games on ladder. Tbh, I don’t know how good these decks are right now. It may be just a tournament meta thing..
To spice things up, I prefer playing T2 or even T3 decks and I am time and time again surprised how strong those decks can be! Currently I am having minor success (but success nonetheless!) with big warrior. I had pretty good runs with Galakrond warlock and spell shaman as well the last couple weeks. To clarify, I’m generally ending the season around the legend ranks 2-5k, and use these decks to climb in diamond.
I can highly suggest, checking out those underdogs more often. For once, I think there are hidden a couple real gems that are immensely underrepresented. And second, it’s baffling how many opponents struggle against unknown decks. The amount of misplays i witnessed after playing bulwark of Azinot is way to high.
What are your experiences on ladder? Any decks to recommend? Any decks you struggle to beat?

New Freljord Landmark - The Howling Abyss
Now we have Divergent Paths which counters that well.
Still, 7 mana infinite value might see play.
New Targon Landmark - Star Spring
I like alternative win conditions, and that one seems cool.

They already released that hotfix on October 2nd.

Think about using it with Regen cards ... Freljord regeneration plus Targon this thing and Star Shepherd.

Deep Sea Designing - Card Design Competition Discussion Thread
@Hordaki I fear that the new version is basically an anti-Deathrattle tech card, and tech cards should not be class cards.
DAWN OF THE APOCALYPSE- A New Full Custom Expansion
When Iskar asks what would make players return to Hearthstone I could point to most of these new cards.
I want slow, interesting, and powerful cards like these. Not gogogo Rush and Random like current Hearthstone.
