I got High Abbess Alura for my login freebie on Day 1 of Scholomance. I also unpacked Lorekeeper Polkelt and Mozaki, Master Duelist from packs, so I am doing pretty well on this list! I have not used the latter two at all yet, but I found some decklists that incorporate them. I see Speaker Gidra all the time on ladder - a good card in both Shaman and Druid (mostly see Druids, but every Shaman I have faced has it too).
High Abbess Alura is climbing the ranks of a card to be targeted with a nerf sooner than later. With all the amazing buffs that paladin and priest have at their disposal currently, this card is certainly a difficult thing to deal with. Tack on any circumstantial board buffs like Robes of Protection and you've got a wonderfully difficult minion to deal with... especially if it had a spell to give it taunt... ugh.
Rattlegore is just too damned expensive honestly. I cracked him right out the gate and haven't touched him. I have hope that he will find a niche in a control deck that will be somehow able to protect him (maybe with the inclusion of the previously stated Robes of Protection) but in and of itself, it's more of a meme card.
One legendary that I am shocked to not see on the popularity list is Doctor Krastinov. Again he seems to be more of niche card. However with the availability of weapons at Rogue's disposal now, I just don't understand why he is not more prevalent. His buff is conditional, which makes his ability slightly less good than good ole' Captain Greenskin, but the notion that it can be triggered numerous times is why I imagined him to be more present.
Combo decks wont be returning to standard anytime soon. Sorcerer apprentice is being watched for a nerf in case mage can otk. There hasnt been a true control deck in standard since December despite ppl saying that gala priest was one.
Go to wild if u want combo or true control. Ive been playing last season with reno dragon priest and it shits on aggro. An elitist like u should love it
I like how it was just people discussing how aggro wasn't their prefered playstyle and they didn't mind if other people liked playing it, but it wasn't the way they enjoyed playing until this guy came in lmao. But sure we're the elitists lol
Elitist is for those that say im a rogue or shaman main and ppl that plain and simply refuse to play a certain type of deck style. I prefer control myself but i dont restrain my ability to play all types of decks. I want to try out everything the game has to offer. Same for classes. I prefer warlock above all but i dont main the class. In fact ive never hit legend with it.
Other thing that ticks me off is ppl saying playing a certain archetype is easy and brain dead. Aggro may seem like that when u face a heavily favoured matchup. Try the aggro mirrors or beat control decks after they play reno and u will experience the most skill intensive wins u ever had on HS.
2 seasons ago i experienced exactly that with pirate warrior in wild. And it took me a lot of games to reach legend. If it wasnt for farming odd demon hunter and quest mage it wouldnt be possible.
Last season i went with my own version of dragon reno priest tailored to beat only aggro. It was the easiest climb ive had from rank 5 to legend with only 3 losses and they were mirrors while they ran a combo oriented version unlike mine.
You see i went aggro pirate and the next season i played the exact opposite. Why? Cause i play the game to its fullest. Same for standard i played aggro murlocs to gala rogue and highlander mage and hunter and even went with a bit of quest warlock and libram paladin before the new expansion
Yes i prefer control yes i prefer warlock but damned if im restraining my range of playing the game. Dust is the only limit for me.
I've tried a lot of different versions, some that are more midranged with Dragon synergies, some that are more aggressive with lots of 1-drops, but I keep finding that they just don't cut it. They're not fast enough to be consistent against control decks, and the other classes that support aggro and tempo decks are often better at it, so if you don't have a 1-drop into Power Word: Feast as your opening play, you're often dead in the water. Relying on getting at least one cheap buff in your opening hand has been a struggle.
Self-Sharpening Sword would be my controversial pick. It just has too much durability to be a Rogue weapon. If you don’t have any weapon removal early, and your opponent gets a Deadly Poison or a Krastinov off, that is easily upwards of 20 damage you can’t do anything about. Add on the fact that Rogues have uninteractive Stealth minions and yeah, games end very quickly.
Although this is probably a symptom of Voracious Reader and Secret Passage being op, my other nerf candidates.
Maybe because I love Acidic Swamp Ooze so much that I include it whenever there seems to be an influx of weapons, but to me this weapon is annoying... but I wouldn't call it meta defining. Unless someone can get off the Deadly Poison or other buff cards sequentially, this weapon won't do a lot but cause an annoyance. But then again, I've not seen it played a lot in games against me personally.
I've been playing a lot of wild recently, and any time i face a demon hunter that isn't odd demon hunter they have glide. I play in casual mode though. I have faced about 10 i want to say that have glided me on low mana turns(under eight mana) and it really sucks to play against if you're any kind of control deck that wants more than 4 cards in your hand against an aggro class hoping to run them out of steam. You can go on about win rates and popular decks all you want. But when a card is shitty to play against and invalidates an entire playstyle and it sees ANY kind of play at all it should be nerfed in my opinion.
Well stated. Nothing like working several turns to get your "combo" or control set up to only have the whole thing blow up in your face with a reset button. Not to mention that it can happen again in the game.
Anyone else think Maokai and Nautilus is to easy to complete?
Often enough they can simply stall until turn 7-8 thanks to multiple removal spells, and the small costed units that are also very beneficial towards their core strategy completion and it heals them.
Then turn 8-9 sometimes as early as turn 7 as in this instance your either dead or have to trade in most of your board towards overstatted minions which means your most likely gonna lose next turn.
And if that doesn't occur your deck being obliterated before you have even reached turn 10 also does the trick.
Only way my decks really are able to beat em is if i either play hyper aggro and kill em before Nautilus comes down or they are extremely unlucky and neither draw Maokai and Nautilus.
Otherwise all my other slower decks are basically insta-lose.
I haven't seen a Star Student Stelina played, yet, through about 100 games. I suppose that shouldn't be surprising.
Just having one shuffled back in I wouldn't call validating of a nerf. Now if it stole or removed it entirely from the game... that would be even more annoying, but again since it's only one card at random it's not that impacting for a nerf IM

In my own experience, when faced with burnout, I've only found two things that work. Taking a break, or find a way to change my mindset about the game.
Thankfully Runeterra's incredibly generous card rewards make taking a break very non-punishing. You can easily stop playing for a few weeks, and still have very little issue getting all the cards you want. Personally, I think this helps the most with burnout, since it gets you away from things long enough for them to feel fresh, while at the same time freeing up time to do other things, which is often independently energizing.
Keep in mind, with the expansion around the corner, and reveals beginning today, you can also have fun with the game without even playing. Theorycrafting during reveal season is a great way to keep in the game without necessarily playing it every day.
Alternatively, changing how you play the game to look for new kinds of fun, or making your own can be a way to stave off burnout in card games. I find that in digital card games especially it's easy to get sucked into focusing on the ranked climb, but that's also almost always the most repetitive experience in my opinion, which contributes to burnout.
Not everyone finds fun in the same aspects of card games, but suggestions like the one from Sunforged before are perfect examples of things I like to do. Building something quirky and taking it into a less competitive mode can be a great change of pace, without having to be constrained about how optimal it is. Sometimes this even allows you to discover powerful combinations you didn't know about (or more often terrible things that create hilarious outcomes!).
Labs also scratch this itch, but I feel the current one dives back into the repetitive side of things a little hard for my taste, whereas the last one I got a lot of mileage out of as a fresh experience.
Lastly, I find I have more fun in any kind of competitive game the less I focus on my opponent, and more on my own play. Reading into things like your point 3 and 5 can make the entire game experience feel more negative, since you infer nobody else seems to be having fun either. But as I stated before, people find fun in different places in card games. I know people who have the most fun playing a deck that plays on curve minions every turn and has little interaction. Alternatively, I know people who have the most fun playing meme decks that lose 9 out of 10 times, but the 10th time does something spectacular, which makes the losses worth it in their eyes. Negativity has a way of amplifying itself, and so dwelling about how much fun other people are having (or not) just makes your own experience worse over something you cannot confirm or control.
Just my own thoughts as a long time card game player who has gone through this cycle a few times. Hope it helps!
I'm very surprised with Mozaki being this popular. The card isn't easy to use at all. Too many aggro decks on ladder to play a combo deck with her without having a miserable time. Ras Frostwhisper is much easier to use and is a nice addition to Highlander Mage. I don't have Evocation, Chenvaala or Astromancer Solarian and i'm not very interested in making such a big investment so i'll probably just ignore Mozaki.
I certainly underrated Rattlegore and i'm tempted to craft the card but i'm still being careful around it. I'll probably craft Alura for Priest but i don't have Lady Liadrin so Libram Paladin is off limits. I have tried Polkelt in Highlander decks and it's nice to have a guaranteed draw on a big late game card. I'm still not very comfortable with the appropriate time to play him though. And i took 22 damage from Gidra yesterday. That card is a must remove threat. If you fail to deal with it then it can actually kill you from out of nowhere.
I want to know how you feel, has anyone made similar experiences? What do you do to still enjoy the game? Or is hearthstone just not the right game for me anymore?
Combo decks wont be returning to standard anytime soon. Sorcerer apprentice is being watched for a nerf in case mage can otk. There hasnt been a true control deck in standard since December despite ppl saying that gala priest was one.

Can you please eloborate why you think Galakrond Priest isn´t a control deck? I also would like to call Highlander Mage a control deck. With the latter being more value orientated and the former closer to a fatigue deck.
In my book a control desk needs to have ther gameplan laid out before the match in order to wipe aggro. Gala priest relies to much on randomness.
Highlander mage despite having some tools vs aggro loses to it more times than it should. And its mid to late game value relies again too much on random with stuff like box reno and the big dragon i cant remember the name that gives u a free spell cast.
Thats why pre nerf boom hero warrior was a true control deck despite the little rng on its hero power. Warlock with its reno versions or the guldan one when it was standard. Reno priest takes the cake now cause how it staves off aggro and has a pre determined late game win con
Yeah i thought about combination possibilities but some legends have less combination options than others which could be the case for new cards released in the sets, if you look at Maokai and Nautilus sure you can combine it with other legends instead of those 2 together but the most obvious and strong option for that deck is to combine those 2 together and that is the most likely version you're gonna face.
And mirror matches can have multiple reasons why they can occur they don't have to bound by 1 reason.
The novelty of new cards is 1 reason why mirror matches can occur as well, multiple players that want to experiment with the newly released cards.

I started to experience a small burnout myself lately, but I think it's because of late expansion announcement - I found myself checking news for any new info every day.
New cards will definitely be a breath of fresh air - and we will get new cards every 2 month since new expansion.
While i am not into playing OTK or large numbers of expensive cards i prefer tactical and resource managing gameplay. I don´t like cards that allow aggro to empty their hand and then draw 3 or more to fill back. I prefer flexible decks with tempo and loads of synergies. Often leaning to midrange/control.
Of course i also dislike heavy highroll cards or mana cheat that basically doesnt have counterplay.
I am currently testing such a warrior and while it can´t win all it looks like a playable control deck.
And i played no minion mage which is control style and worked 50:50. Currently listet in T4 but i think it´s better. Well not T1. Play paladin if you only care for winrates. I like playing against paladins with my warrior. :-)

Not surprised by this list, except for Rattlegore, which I thought would almost see no play at all. Alura really is too good, she should cost 5 mana.

That was hilarious. I liked that it felt like a student giving the tour as well, just to add flavor to it.
