on the flipside what made HEarthstone popular was the complete disregard for depth in favour of easy to pick up gameplay with flashy animations and a low skillcurve for deckbuilding.

WHen you lose a game in Hearthstone it's most likely going to be RNG or other factors out of your control, which is great for people who don't wanna have to overthink every single turn just to be able to win a game.

    I have similar feelings @KANSAS.

    In particular, I don't like:

    - animations of Heroes who level up (yes, they look nice.. but after seeing them few times they annoy me more and more... and I can't disable them... I would prefer just a small animation happening on the board),

    - only 1 small icon indicating what faction it is in (hard to differentiate card faction),

    - after playing a card it is "frozen" in the air for a split second (in HS playing cards feels soooo smooth...),

    - UI isn't good enough, especially the main menu.

Still LoR is quite polished, the gameplay loop feels really good. I think that's enough to keep the game enjoyable for most players. All the graphic issues can be fixed easily. It's not like Artifact, where gameplay felt just bad, so no wonder that people just left so fast.

  • The Hearthstone 2020 Community Summit Leaves Frodan in Shock - Big Changes Coming for Hearthstone in 2020

I played very few actual hearthstone games recently after the release of this expansion, with the return of paywall cards and lackey shit, it really kills my wanting to play this game. The worst things about hearthstone other people have mentioned so I will rehash as well in nor particular order...

    1. Revamping the classic set.

There is no reason for priest to still be able to cheese wins with inner fire in 2020, sure it'll help some noob that just installed with an autocomplete priest deck climb the ladder but to everyone else who thinks this game should actually be balanced it needs to revamped or removed.

Warsong commander has no reason to be as bad as it is still with the power creep of hearthstone lately and patron is already in wild so why haven't they removed this from classic and reverted the nerf or just reverted the nerf itself.

Edwin van cleef needs to go. If you agreed with me about inner fire and think Edwin is fine you are a hypocrite. Cheesing games because you are going secord with the coin and have two preps a couple low cost spells and edwin shouldnt be in standard either.

    2. Give new players ways to make gold.

Now I know you saw the title of this section and are already to respond about how they raised the price of the quests to be more consistent in gold amounts. And to veterans this seems like a fair price to pay, but for a new player who has nothing but the classic set playing 25 morlocks or pirates or winning as classes is pretty difficult, and grinding quests is generally only easy if you have two accounts and you fight yourself. Need to win three games as druid? Log onto your pc challenge yourself on your phone. Have them be warlock and tap every turn. Quest over. But for noobs they cant do that, they cant even get quest progress in dungeon runs and you can cheese the "play spells" quest in battlegrounds but that isnt exactly quick.

    3. Balance cards even if they're not meta.

Remember when the hearthstone team said they wouldn't release cards into standard because they'd be too broken or too annoying to be in the same set? Well convincing infiltrator and grave rune got through didnt they? Now I admit this section is just my personal gripe, but i 100% guarantee no one thought about the combo when they came out or they didnt care.

    4. Make battlegrounds interesting again.

I played battlegrounds when it first came out, I have the emotes and everything I loved it, then amalgam meta happened, then it was boring. "Find the amalgam or you lose." And then it was tied up to three and "find the floating watcher or you lose." And now its "protect the cobalt or you lose" why are beasts so terrible? Why is toxfin in the game and not crackling razormaw? Who knows. But the only way to win in with divine shield poisonous morlocks. And kripp will tell you it's a "super difficult strategy that hardly pays off" but what he really means is that if Bob doesnt give you the things you need you sink like a stone. "Four players left and your playing murlocks and you're at tier six trying to find a megasaur to get divine shield poisonous against the other three demon players? Have you heard of SNEEDS?! Oh boy it could be anything it could be THE BEAST dont you want THE BEAST?" -Bob No bob I do not want the beast, I want the one thing that will 100% win me this game why aren't you giving it to me. I dont think dragons will fix this problem since it's in all of these "battlegrounds" games and that's why, at least for me they get tiresome after a month.

Yes please! Give Minions with 3 or less attack Rush.

Yeah, the pacing in Runeterra was also bothering me too. However, I tuned more towards a "fast midrange" (aka t6 Hecarim as the big swing) deck. Basically by t6ish you can tell if the deck has enough steam to win. Otherwise, conceed and move on. Personally I'm happiest when I win or lose fast. Aggro decks can get wrecked pretty hard in this Ezreal meta so.........

    PERSONAL PLAN

step a) Don't get hopes up.

step b) Be pleasantly surprised due to having low expectations

step c) Profit!  (i.e. play more Hearthstone)

Also in the same camp (hit legendary in Hearthstone a couple seasons ago). For runeterra, I'm still getting hang of the turns in each round, but I suspect once folks master that mechanism, it's going to open up a lot interesting interactions.

As much as I love Hearthstone, I feel the developers have catered too much to the casual crowd, and have neglected the folks that want more depth.

IMHO, WoW had a great balance of 1) easy-to-learn mechanics 2) deeper game play for those gamer ethusiasts and 3) hardcore end-game content. Hearthstone is still somewhere in 1.5, whereas Runeterra is around 2.

I don't think so, if they're going to make Hearthstone 2.0 it will be more like Heroes of the Storm 2.0..

I'm curious but not seriously hyped.

For what is my gamestyle (homebrewing with Tempo/Midrange decks in Wild) the game has been pretty stale for a while, with the meta overwhelmed by a stupidly limited subset of flawed cards - killing the very purpose of Wild, aka larger set of cards.

I know i am quite specific as a player type, but well that's my point of view.

First idea, what do you think? If anyone is still in need of assistance, let me know.

Interesting idea, but I have two suggestions

    1. The Reborn keyword is usually associated with mummies rather than just undead (there are exceptions though), so you might want to find some different art

    2. Instead of calling it "a silenced copy of this minion", you should just have it say "a 4/7 dragon".

Have you found a deck you enjoy playing? The pace of the matches can vary a lot depending on what type of deck you play. Plus, with the way you can combine regions and the fact that they will be adding more regions and expanding the existing regions, the deck building possibilities are crazy. So even if you haven't found a deck that fits your play style yet, you're bound to find one eventually.

    My Wishlist:

    - Overhaul of Basic and Classic set  - like change to Cleric or fix to overnerfed cards like Starving Buzzard or Warsong Commander.

    - New ways of getting dust/ or gold. Something more than 10 gold per 3 wins.

    - Dragons in Battlegrounds

    - I hope they keep idea of all 3 Expansions being tied. This was awesome idea.

    - New Hero portraits - they created a lots of them for Single Player missions. Let us use them (I want to be Kobold Druid!). They already have Voice Lines!

The main issue I have with Runeterra is the aesthetics and UI. There isn't enough flavor on the cards and the whole game just feels a bit flat, if you know what I mean. All of the card borders look the same, and the boards are really bland.

I don't hate LoR, but it just feels boring to play, even if the actual gameplay is good.

  • Brawl Haul - Commanding the Field with Niv-Mizzet, Reborn

I agree that Golos can get be a bit repetitive. I have a Golos commander deck and my friends hate playing against it because there are way too many ways to get exactly what I want out of my deck and the games can get a bit boring. But I just really like the goloses design and the way he plays.

As for the article next week, as long as it isn't Heliod, the Sun Crowned I am fine with whatever.

This is true. So basically, this is just another fireball and more burn damage for mage when they already have so much burn damage.

This is not broken because it is too much damage for it's cost, but I wouldn't like to see this card printed because there is already so many ways for mage to deal burn damage and this would just make aggro mages way more consistnet.

Not really. The kink of the card is it forces you to pay 2 mana more to use it (hero power). At best you gotta spend 4 mana to deal 4 damage. This is only dangerous if you keep it in hand for a huge bursts late game with 2 copies of it, and aggro mage doesn't like holding cards in hand till 10 mana.

    Hoping for;

    - Change to evergreen set

    - Change to system that reduces overall cost to have fun in hearthstone

    - New ways to play hearthstone

    - Revamp and balancing of wild cards

    - Reintroduction of wild cards to standard (as part of the yearly rotation)

    - Reduction in dust cost for crafting wild cards

Looks like Runeterra's doing work for hearthstone already.

Bold statement for sure. i mean yeah cementing HS for next decade when theres the threat of LoR around the corner really seems that what they are coming up with is a completely new thing and something that can revitalize the game for another generation

  • Brawl Haul - Commanding the Field with Niv-Mizzet, Reborn

I'm glad you enjoyed the article, as well as more MTG stuff coming out!

Golos was originally my go-to commander for Brawl because Field of the Dead is a format defining card. However, my main issue is that it always kind of boiled down into playing the same thing every game and despite how much my inner Johnny and Spike may say this is good, it just felt too streamlined for my liking. I might get around to covering some of the older commanders again since there are certainly some fun ones I'd enjoy covering in the future, but we'll just have to see where the series goes since there's still a lot of refinement I want to do.

If you want to vote for the topic of next week's article, I've narrowed it down to the 7 gods from Theros Beyond Death so if any of these interest you, make sure to let me know!
